Tam Coc means three caves, and is about a two hour drive from Hanoi to the South. I took a minibus there followed by a little boat rowed by two locals (with their feet) along the Ngo Dong river, through limestone mountains, which stretched for several kilometres along the river. We rowed through three caves on the river (battling claustrophobia), that were all created by wind and water from 'legend times' apparently, when the sea had occupied the area. Feb 2, 2008 - Tam Coc Rowing & Respect to Ho Chi Minh
FRIDAY 1st FEBRUARY Another rainy, cold day in Vietnam, saw us braving a day trip to Tam Coc, some 140km South of Hanoi, wearing half the contents of our backpacks including our sexy 'granddad style' thermal long-johns, which we had only envisaged wearing on the South American leg of our adventures. After a 2 hour coach drive we arrived at Hoa Lu which was the former Capital of North Vietnam.
