Mar 14, 2007 - North to Kon Tum
I'm not sure whether Son meant that it was the country's highest or widest waterfall (it didn't seem that big - but then I now have a habit of comparing waterfalls to Iguazu Falls and not much compares to them), but it was reasonably wide I suppose! From there we drove on up the road back to Buon Me Thuot and then north on the Kon Tum road. ... We stopped for dinner in the dirtiest place I think I've eaten in my life - a truck stop where the floor was littered with bones and other remains of former diner's meals and flies buzzed incessantly - exactly the same as the day before, but this place made that look like it had just been spring-cleaned! The food was tasty if a bit ginger-laden though, and I didn't suffer any illness so all's good! We arrived in a town called Pleicu, where Son began driving around in circles, stopping to ask people questions, and when I asked what was going on he said something about a map, so I assumed we were lost and he was trying to find the right road which kind of dented my confidence in his guiding skills! It turns out that he was trying to find somewhere to buy me a map in response to my asking him where we were and where we were going, as after about half an hour of searching he eventually found somewhere, and we continued up to Kon Tum. ... In Kon Tum we checked in to the hotel. ... Which made me pretty angry: as I shortly found out, Kon Tum isn't the sort of place you can stumble on finding anything to do by wandering around at night and the only option was to watch TV. ...

04 February - To Kon Tum I woke early to torrential rain, but fortunately by 0800 it had stopped I briefly chatted to Alain at breakfast, having said goodbye to Rene who went off at 0830 for a bus to Nha Trang. ... I did notice that the bus station at Kon Tum was 13km from the town and it seemed that we would pass right by the road where the hotel I wanted to stay at was(recommended by Barbara), so tried to explain that I would like to be dropped off there. ... Also, for some reason I had been expecting Kon Tum to be more villagey, but at first glance it looks like a normal town, although there are a lot of ethnic people here and I did spot two dark-skinned people, which is unusual. ... Around Kon Tum a major battle between North and South Vietnamese took place in Spring of 1972, and a lot of the area was devastated by American bombs. ... As I went into Kon Tum there was another Rong House. ...

Jun 18, 2005 - Kon Tum (Vietnam)
I've just tried to stick a photo on and it took 20mins and still hadn't uploaded, so I'm afraid that you'll have to wait to see them! We set off quite early this morning (7am) Luu decided that as I had to be back in Bangkok by the end of the month our trip should be compacted into 4 days to give me more time up north. I put on some more sun cream to cover my "tomato skin" as Luu calls it! The afternoon went by pretty quickly, we didn't stop much and arrived in Kon Tum. ...
