If you haven't been paying too much attention to ole' Uzbekistan over the last couple years - and let's face it, if you live anywhere west of the Azores, you probably haven't - you may have missed the country's sudden transition from key US ally in the "war on terror" and recipient of several hundred millions of dollars per year in development assistance, to "Turkmenistan light" (Don't get the reference?
