Feb 19, 2008 - Bueos Aires - Montevideo

Feb 12, 2008 - Montevideo, Uruguay

2/12 Only 100 miles from Buenos Aires is the capital city of Montevideo, Uruguay. With a population of about 1.3 million people, half the population on Uruguay, it is a large, attractive city. We took a bus into town and walked between the two main plazas, Independence and Constitution. We also did some shopping since the area is well known for its leather.

Jan 19, 2008 - URUGUAY - Montevideo

Montevideo... we'd heard it was like Buenos Aires, so we were expecting big things. In the same way that its hard to say why Buenos Aires was so good, its difficult to work out why Montevideo isn't. We stayed in a really cool hostel though, and spent our time on the beach (still on the river, but getting closer to the Atlantic now), wandering the streets of the old town, and cycling around the coastal road. Uruguay is more expensive than Argentina, and its taken us a while to get used to the stupid exchange rate of 41:1. First time I've...

Jan 7, 2008 - Montevideo - a little gem!

For a capital city Montevideo is relatively small (3m people) and has a great relaxed atmosphere. The city centre contains some beautiful colonial and Art Deco buildings many of which are in need of some serious restoration. As it was Saturday we decided to sample Montevideo's nightlife. In the city centre this appears to be concentrated into a couple of streets lined wth bars. People of all ages were out making for an easy going atmosphere - much more civilised than a Saturday night in Leeds. On our way back to our hotel we saw some...

Dec 31, 2007 - A chegada

Nov 13, 2007 - Montevideo

7 hours public coach and we arrived in Montevideo. I was actually surprised how big the city was. Unfortunately we had horrible weather,it wasn't nice to walk around. It didn't stop raining. I was looking forward to seing Kicki, Tracy and all the people I used to work with. I know some people may say I am sad wanting to see the Sabre office, especially as I don't work there anymore. Let's say I was curious to see what the office looks like as I've heard so much about it, plus it's nice to meet some of my colleagues who I spent hours with...

Jul 11, 2007 - Uruguay - Montevideo

With lovely blue skies outside we set off on our early morning 2.5 hour bus journey to Montevideo. Montevideo was initially founded in 1726 as a fortress city on the northern shore of the River Plate. After leaving Colonia and driving through tree lined highways and lovely countryside we caught a glimpse of Uruguays capital city from the opposite banks of the river. After checking into our hostel we set off on a David and Debs whirlwind walking tour of the historic city. Starting at Plaza Independencia, site of the original citadel of...

Jun 15, 2007 - URUGUAY - Montevideo

Decided one day in Uruguay wasn't really enough and didn't want to head back to BA just yet so decided to check out the capital city and took a bus over to Montevideo. It's pretty small in comparison to most other south american cities and had a pretty chilled out vibe, with hardly any other tourists which was nice! I spent most the day just walking around and browsing in the shops, wishing i could buy bagfulls of cheap clothes! I walked all around the beaches and port trying to book my boat ticket out for the next day, but the whole place...

Apr 22, 2007 - Buneous Aires to Montevideo (Uraguay)

Early breakfast and then caught taxi to the airport for our flight to Montevideo. Less than one hour flight. Visited the information counter at the airport to get some transport info, they didn't speak any English but I managed to get a map and find out where to catch a bus. Someone at the bustop helped us find the correct bus so we jumped on and I pointed to the map where I wanted to go. Luckily I knew our hotel was very close to the major bus depot and I was able to work out where I was on our map. The bus driver also gave us a nod when...

Apr 12, 2007 - Montevideo

Montevideo is the capital of Uruguay and is an absolutely gorgeous city. Our hotel was situated about 5 min from everywhere. There is an archway into the old town where all the shops and squares are. Just down at the end of it is a market where the locals go for meat and stuff and the local drink which I cant pronounce. Its a mix between cider and champagne and apparently its the only place u can get this drink. We went for dinner down by the rio de la plaza(harbour)which is famous for its fish, flounder, swordfish etc. The next morning we...
