We stayed for 3 nights at this working ranch in Uruguay. It has been in Juan's family at least back to his grandparents, he and his siblings, as well as his parents of course were born on the ranch. There is no electricity, they have a generator he runs for 3 hours a day. The water for washing is heated by running pipes behind the cook stove, heated by wood. We spent a short amount time in Montevideo, < day. Montervideo is the Capital of Uruguay and largest city. What surprised us about the city is how deserted the town was, as half the shops had closed. We went to the old town area and it was like the area had been evacuated. We walked down streets and saw very few people. The wealth had left the city. Ein ganz verrückter Tag... Sorry dass ich mich so viele Tage nicht gemeldet habe, aber ich hab echt was echt verrücktes erlebt! Am Dienstag musste ich mich um eine Gelbfieber Impfung umschauen, denn ohne diese Impfung darf ich nicht in Venezuela einreisen. Nach einigen Informationen hat mich dieses Abenteuer in den Hafen und dessen Gebäuden geführt. denkt ich mir als ich mich zwischen die zwei etwas "KRAEFTIGEREN" Herren in den mittleren Sitz zwaenge... Ich hab mir ausgerechnet den "Notausgang Sitzplatz" ausgesucht, weil dort fuer meine langen Beine mehr Platz ist... Das haben aber auch zwei andere gemacht, die sind aber nicht nur GROSS sondern auch ziemlich BREIT und beanspruchen auch schon jenen Platz auf dem ich eigentlich sitzen sollte... Leicht genervt erhebt sich der eine am Rand sitzende Senior, ich setz mich auf meinen Platz und schups, schon bin ich eingeklemmt... etwas OIL...

Our first big city since Santiago. Montevideo is the capitol of Uruguay and like most cities has an old and new part of the city. Ravi -- Well, Montevideo was far from our favorite big city in Latin America. We only allocated one day here, on the way from romantic Colonia to the beaches further east. That was more than enough! Unbeknownst to us, Saturday is apparently a bad day to visit, and the downtown is completely deserted, museums and restaurants mostly closed. We finally found some life at the Port Market complex, an atmospheric busy indoor market with restaurants and street performers outside. But beyond this city-block-sized area, not much else to offer...

We got the bus from Colonia to Uruguay´s capital, Montevideo. The countryside here is all flat and full of grassy fields which are ideal for growing the steaks!
