Jun 11, 2013 - South Carolina
As we contnued up the east coast we contemplated where next. We tend to follow the philosophy of one of our favorite travel people, Anthony Bourdain "No Reservations". In that light, we may or may not know where we are headed next. This was no exception. We decided to stop in Charleston. We camped about 20 minutes outside of town, a town with lots of outlying traffic repairs, thus congestion. I must admit the wait was worth it. This town is has a huge waterfront which of course is where we tend to migrate. Still in progress...

May 29, 2013 - Linda (My Blind Friend)
Today I had an enjoyable visit with my friend from where I use to work. Her name is Linda and she is blind. She has a seeing eye dog named Teddy. We had a great lunch of Chinese Food. One of my very favorite flowering plants is the Azaleas. When driving over to Linda's when I made the turn to her street I saw this house with the most beautiful Azaleas in their yard. I said I am going to have to take a picture of that yard before going into Linda's house. Well low and behold my GPS said you have arrived and I was parked right in front of...

May 25, 2013 - Welcome MN
May 23. Left Iowa City about 9:30 am after dumping (for you non-rv’ers I bet that didn’t sound good). We got to Welcome, MN. About 3:00 pm. About 290 miles. Uneventful trip. Went to the American Legion for a couple in the big town of Welcome. Very nice place and real nice people. Stayed in and caught upon TV and rest. Only got down to 52 degrees last night. The heater felt good. Suppose to get to 70 degrees today. Have driven about 2300 miles since leaving Merritt Island. May 24, 2013, day of rest. Went by a real nice VFW in Fairmont on the...

May 25, 2013 - Adventures in Tornado Alley
This little COE (Corps of Engineers) campground on beautiful Beaver Lake, Arkansas is filled to the gills this Memorial Day weekend. Ok, not such a little campground; there are 50 sites in our loop and another 75 in a second loop. We’re in the non-reservable loop, arriving on Monday to guarantee ourselves a site, and by Wednesday our loop was full. Some sites had merely a tent or un-popped-up Pop-up campers without people until yesterday so you know it was locals willing to pay for several nights before they arrived for the weekend just to...

May 24, 2013 - Madison Rally
Sunday May 19, 2013 We left for Madison today to go to the Wisconsin Badger chapter 49 spring rally. After checking into the Deforest KOA we went and met some friends for lunch that used to work at Camping World with us. Then I went to Camping World and bought a Magellan Explorist GC GPS to begin a new hobby of geocaching. I’ll let you know how that works out. Monday morning I downloaded a couple of geocaches and went out and was able to find the first one. It was a nice walk and took me about an hour to find. In the afternoon we registered...

May 24, 2013 - The Land of Tom Sawyer
Finally got to the Mississippi and are staying in a campground named Tom Sawyer RV Park which just reopened today after being closed by the Mississippi overflowing it's banks. The campground is on the river and we are three rows from it, Big, beautiful and swift with a steady flow of barges and tugs. While grocery shopping we found Razorback Bar B Q and you know we had to stop. Linda's pulled pork was delicious and the ribs were close to mine. Not a bad late lunch/early dinner. Rest of afternoon spent on a park bench watching the Mighty...

May 24, 2013 - Buffalo
After a somewhat fitful sleep (still adjusting to the time change), we arose at 7:30 AM. I made coffee while Carl showered. We relaxed with our coffee for a while and then Carl went over to the McDonald's next door to our hotel to buy some breakfast for us. The hotel offers a huge breakfast buffet, but at $10.95 per person, it is too expensive and a lot more food than either of us feel like in the morning. I had asked Carl to get me a sausage McGriddlle sandwich, but when I opened the sandwich, the sausage was missing and there were just...

May 24, 2013 - Grand Canyon 2013
Our ancestors trekked across this vast continent in covered wagons searching for better lives for their families and future generations. My family stopped in Iowa. Knowing my family, they likely got on each other’s nerves and said “Fuck it…here’s good.” It is in this spirit of adventure we are trekking west too. Only we are not seeking better lives and opportunity. We just want a week off work with friends, cocktails and an amazing destination. The Grand Canyon. The cast this year is large and varied as we will be picking people up along...

May 24, 2013 - Onward to Canada
We are now in Fort Benton, Montana which is about 37 miles east of Great Falls. On Sunday, we will be in Waterton National Park in Canada. We will be relying on public WiFi while in Canada since using our Verizon aircard for Internet access is ridiculously expensive. I’ll make posts to the blog whenever I can. I might be going through withdrawal without immediate Internet access!
