Jul 17, 2015 - Busy Day for Us

We crammed a lot of stuff in today. We started the day with a trip to Legend Rock. This place is about 20 miles north of Thermopolis. This site has nearly 300 petroglyphs, some as old as 11,000 years and some as new as 250 years (not counting the graffiti up to 1988). Legend Rock State Archaeology Site has some of the oldest and best examples of Dinwoody rock art in the world. You ask how they know the age? Well, if a horse is shown, it is less than 275 years old since horses we not introduced to the area until then. If a bow and arrow is...

Where RV Now?

Jun 12, 2013 - June 12th

Oh, dear, quite a adventure the last several days. The trip over and down the Big Horn mountains was thrill. We slightly overheated the breaks on the way down. We probably should have downshifted at the start of the decent. about 3/4 of the way down we pulled into a pullout and let the breaks cool. They were smoking. We made it down alright though. I'm sure we weren't the first to overheat their breaks on the mountain though. It was quite a decent. We got to Cody Sunday afternoon. After setting up camp at the Ponderosa campground we went...

Yellowstone 2013

Jun 12, 2013 - June 12 evening

Ok, given the OK by Dr to travel on. We plan to be in Yellowstone either tomorrow or Friday. We are trying to get reservations, but web site is not co-operating. Will need to try phone in morning. We're only 50 miles from the park but probably won't leave Cody until; we have reservations. We're going to a rodeo this evening. Hope it doesn't rain.

Yellowstone 2013

Jun 8, 2013 - June 8th

Big day today. We left Hermosa SD, and entered Wyoming. Stopped at first rest area in Wyoming, where Tori got her picture taken on a stuffed horse. After leaving the rest area we went to Devils Tower. We walked all the way around the base. We saw several climbers on the tower at various stages of ascent. Leaving there we went to Buffalo Wyoming than took US rt 16 to Worland Wyoming. This route was very mountainous. The brakes over heated on decent and we had to stop for a while to let them cool. We then proceeded to our campground in...

Yellowstone 2013

Aug 14, 2006 - Ten Sleep, Wyoming

Well, Ten Sleep, Wyoming, what can we say? It was legendary. We left Spearfish, South Dakota, planning to get to Yellowstone for two nights' camping, but on the way we changed our plan and decided to stop at Cody, Wyoming, so we could watch a rodeo. Well, this changed again when we went swimming at a beautiful man-made lake and met a dude who told us about a bluegrass music festival just down the road at Ten Sleep. So we decided that it might be quite cool to stop at a town with a population of 304 which was hosting a music festival...

Aug 5, 2006 - Stuck Again. This time in Wyoming.

We made it out of Yellowstone into central Wyoming and 20 miles up the Big Horn Mountain range headed towards Devil's Tower when the new transmission caught on fire. We're fine and the RV is fine, so don't worry!! Some bikers coming from Sturgis stared flapping their arms at us and we pulled over with them behind us. The dogs and I did a Chinese Fire drill around the RV while the boys grabbed fire extinguishers. Fortunately, the fire went out by itself. Now we'll never know if the fire extinguishers we carry on board really work!...
