Sep 3, 2017 - A Simple Day

Today was another simple day marked by good people, amazing vistas, and fascinating history. We began with worship at St Agnes Catholic Church. We met friendly people, good music, and a good homily by a much-loved priest. As we continued our journey west we crossed into Wyoming. The Western Plains are over 4,000 feet elevation. Remember we left at sea level. Hills are starting to appear, leading to the Rocky Mountains. The land is still flat but rougher. Today the temps were in the mid 90s. The smoke from the Montana wildfires still covers...

Apr 8, 2015 - Front Street, Ogallala, Breakfast and on to Wheatland

Another rainy and foggy morning. We decided to hook up and go down to the Front Street museum and have breakfast and then go to the museum. We got there around 8:30 and found that the Cafe didn't open for breakfast until 10:00. Talk about late risers! So we asked a fellow that was sitting in front of the saloon and he suggested the Travel America truck stop. Well considering the source we drove around town looking for other options. We found some but they were all closed. So we went to the truck stop. After all it turned out to be OK. I...

Oct 8, 2011 - A safe haven

Due to a rapidly building winter storm over Cheyenne, we exited I-25 just to the north in Wheatland, Wyoming, finding a welcome safe haven at the Mountain View RV Park. There is nothing fancy about the place, but it certainly suits us for a one night stay out of the growing snowstorm, icy highways and high winds. Whew! The hostess greeted us at the entry in a blue rain slicker with a temperature of 35 degrees, high wind and heavy pre-snow rain. She directed us into a very level and long space with a big smile on her face and undaunted by...

Jun 24, 2011 - Rain & Hail in Wheatland, WY

Usually, we like to drive off the interstates; it seems it's a little slower pace, although we can't always stop where we want, or Foxy wants. It's not always easy to pull off a 60 ft. rig. But, today, the super slab seemed the wisest choice. We made a donation to Flying J in Limon for 75 gallons of diesel fuel; that put a dent in our wallets. Then, we hit I-70 heading northwest. We stopped for a rest area before getting to the tollway. Last time we took the tollway around Denver, the toll booths were manned with attendants. The attendants...

Jun 8, 2011 - Wheatland, WY

Trinidad, CO to Wheatland, WY. We finally cooled off with the temperature in the 50's and there is wet stuff falling from the clouds. It has been so long since we have seen it in Texas that we are not sure what it is. Lewis Park is a wonderful park. It has everything from basketball and tennis courts, to volleyball, horseshoes, rollerblading, covered picnic area, and bathrooms and more. Good place to stop and at very good price.

Oct 29, 2010 - Our Trip to Wheatland, Wyoming

Hello everyone....We made it to Wheatland Wyoming today....We left McCook Nebraska this morning about 8:00am. It was cold too, about 28 when we got up. At least the wind wasn't blowing so hard. We had a great day just traveling across Nebraska and heading west. We went thru North Platte, Ogallala, Bridgeport and lots of little towns in-between. The most interesting one was Ogallala. Its an old western town with lots of historical stuff. The route we took was the the same one that the Mormons took and the Oregon Trail. There were lots of...

Oct 9, 2010 - Bump In The Road

Our intended overnight stay in Wheatland was in a convenient RV park off I-25. We were preparing to leave Tuesday morning when I began experiencing chest pains which were also centered in the back, I at first attributed the pain to a strained back, however, the pain continued unabated for an hour and after pale skin and sweating began it was time to go the the hospital. Wheatland, WY. is a small town and fortunately has a little Community Hospital with an ER. We drove to the Platte County Memorial Hospital where Dr. James Hawley and staff...

Jun 9, 2010 - Wheatland, Wyoming

While traveling in Wyoming, we had several issues that needed to be addressed - we had two tires (inner dually) blowout about 20 miles north of Cheyenne WY, luckily we were within 1/4 mile of an off ramp. Our road warranty paid for all but $30 of the total bill. we were delayed about 4 hours. The access door for the hot water heater fell off, so we stopped in Wheatland, Wyoming for the night, we did see a beautiful sunset.

Aug 13, 2009 - Day 13: Big Timber, Montana to Wheatland, Wyoming

We blew through most of Wyoming today. It looks like a Saturday arrival is very possible at this point. After four straight days on the road, it will be good to be in home and in our own beds, but mentally I’m not ready for our old groove yet. When I scan e-mails of things going on back home - things that usually make up the activities of our week - I think, “Ugh - how boring!” I’m not ready to be back in my small little world. I like it out here in these wide open spaces where I can meet all kinds of people and see all kinds of things. The...

Oct 5, 2008 - Wheatland, WY

Our week in South Dakota is over so now we head west and south through Wyoming and Colorado on our way to Arizona. We'll be making 5 one night stops in a row!! A lot of driving in a short time. Our first stop is in Wheatland, WY. It's a drive of about 230 miles with the first part on state roads not highways. The campground is an easy off, easy on from I-25 and will be the only place we camp in Wyoming on this visit.

Going Down MC's-LANE

Jun 24, 2008 - On the road north

Spent the night in a small town in Wheatland Wyoming. Seemed like the windiest spot in the State, until I found out the "W" in Wyoming stands for wind. Aimed the rig into the headwinds and slept the night away. Nice ride coming out of Denver. The plains to my right and the Rocky Mountains to the left. Denver appeared like any other big city, I am sure it has some redeeming value, just didn't see it from the interstate. Not enough time for anything else by a drive-through.

Aug 16, 2007 - Almost Movin' On; Tired Out Between Chugwater and Wheatland, WY

08-16-2007 Almost Movin' On; Tired Out Between Chugwater and Wheatland, WY Thursday, August 16, I was up at 7:10. It is cool this morning with a low of 63. I took a one-mile walk; my last one around Loveland RV Park. I wonder if anyone will miss me. There is no paper this morning and the office isn't open yet so I can't settle up our electric bill. I went back home to stretch and have breakfast. We packed up quickly. I checked back at the office twice to try to pay our electric bill for the month. The old guy in the noisy golf cart was...
