Sep 9, 2016 - Buffalo to Wapiti - Must be in Wyoming

It rained most of last night so we weren't too surprised to see snow in the mountains this morning. There weren't any road advisories so we headed up Hwy 16 on the Cloud Peak Skyway over Powder River Pass (9,666'). Not sure what elevation we hit snow but even when it was hanging in the trees the road was clear. It was actually snowing up around the pass. We've seen so many beautiful sites on this trip but don't think any single day's drive has been as constantly amazing as today. Mountains, pine trees, rock formations, mesas, rivers, deer,...

Jul 27, 2014 - Church on the Mountain

Great morning attending church open air on the mountain. This is an outreach of the local Episcopal congregation. Wonderful place to worship the creator. Sorry for the lack of pictures, but we are experiencing technical difficulties. Journal may be a bit slack for a day, a week or forever, but please stand by

Jul 21, 2014 - Bighorns to the Rockies

Neither of us ever heard of the Bighorn mountains but found them in our path across Wyoming. The steep climb and sharp descent provided a serious test for the truck and Linda's nerves, but both survived and the truck performed like a champ. What the Bighorn mountains really provided was beauty and splendor we never dreamed of. They are truly a majestic part of God's creation. Just another great surprise in this semi-old age tour of this wonderful country. If only time allowed, we could easily have spent a week. From the Bighorns in the...

Day 5 Pinedale Wy. -Craig Co.

Day 5 was the day we were going to drive home, but we were having such fun, we decided to go another day, and take the long way home. We planned to drive from Pinedale Wy. To Craig Co. We figured it would take about 5 hours. We took our time to get going that morning. We had some breakfast, then got ready. We checked out at exactly at 11am. Said goodbye to Pinedale and headed south toward Craig. The drive was good, but like the way up the scenery was sparse. We took hwy. 191 south to rock springs and...

Jul 20, 2013 - Day 3 Wapiti- Yellowstone & back

Day 3 Wapiti to Yellowstone and back.

We got on the road around 11:00 am, after a quick stop for gas. We were headed back to Yellowstone NP. about 35 miles from the hotel in Wapiti. We stopped just a couple miles before the park at a place called Pahaska tepee, a lodge with a gift shop, and after Josefina bought some trinkets for the family. We were back on the road to the park. Our next stop was at another gift shop inside the park, then we checked out the visitors center at Yellowstone lake. From there we continued on our way to Old...

Jun 26, 2013 - 6/21 Wapiti Campground, Cody, WY / Yellowstone National Park

6/21, Friday Arrived at Wapiti Campground (that's WOPpitty, not Wa-PEE-tee, as we thought) and were given stern warnings about the grizzlies in those parts. Couldn't even keep toiletries in the tent! 6/22, Saturday First day to Yellowstone, it was drizzly and overcast. Not terrific for photos. So we decided to drive down to see the Tetons. What can I say? They are magnificent!! From a distance and up close, they are indeed Grand. 6/23, Sunday (Happy Birthday, Maggie!!) This day was clear and sunny. We drove and drove and drove, all around...

Jun 22, 2013 - Wapiti WY (Cody Wy)

Sep 19, 2010 - Day Eight - Idaho, Montana, Yellowstone NP & Wyoming

Hi Guys, Well today we had one of our busiest days of the trip as we crossed three states as well as visiting a National Park. Starting in Idaho we travelled for a an hour or so before stopping in Chubbuck to grab a bite for breakfast as well as visit the local Wal-Mart. We then continued onto the town of Rexburg where we paid a visit to Bear World. this place was great, it was much like the old lion parks we used to have back in Bacchus Marsh in the 70's, where you drive you car through a field of roaming bears and have a chance to take...

Aug 22, 2010 - Leaving Wapiti, WY 8:45 AM MST

We woke up about 7:00 am MST. We have to have coffee before getting on the road. Don hooked up the car and we emptied the gray/black tanks before getting on the road. We marvel at how lucky we were to get this campground. The scenery is outstanding. We’ll be staying on Route 25 until we get outside of Denver and then will pick up 70 East.
