Aug 7, 2014 - GRAND TETONS

Day thirty two of our trip was also the last day of no medical care needed. Found a great urgent care facility to care for my swimmers ear, and I didn't even swim. No respiratory issues is good news. What a surprise that my new "doc for the day" was familiar with Maryland since his wife is from Maryland and three brothers are Naval Academy graduates. A bit of a surprise when I entered the store next to the pharmacy by accident and found my self looking at row upon row of my medicine in days gone by. Out the door Don did run. Linda was...

Aug 6, 2014 - Following the Pony Express

Woke up to a Wyoming sunrise and wondered how anyone can have any doubt of who painted such a lovely picture. Another beautiful travel day crossing then following the Wind River Mountains and just observing what God has made. A bit of history as we passed over the Oregon trail and passed a Pony Express stop. As we began to see the Tetons we also saw cloud formations of immense beauty and were amazed as mountain and cloud became one. Followed the absolutely beautiful Snake River for quite a distance and loved every moment. Saw a herd of...

Going West 2014

Sep 3, 2013 - Thayne, Wyoming

We left Victor, Idaho on Monday and drove about 75 miles south to Thayne, Wyoming. It rained on us most of the way, but cleared up just before we reached the RV Park. The weather cooperated on Tuesday so we headed south to Afton, Wyoming to check out the Intermittent, or Periodic Spring. We stayed thru two on-off cycles – it was pretty neat. Info on the Spring follows. We are heading to Provo, Utah tomorrow. Enjoy The Pictures, Ron and Carmen The largest of only three fluctuating springs known in the world is in Afton, Wyoming. Now...

Sep 3, 2013 - Thayne, WY

We arrived in Thayne Wyoming, on a rainy day and pretty much hunkered down to stay dry. The next clear morning we drove and hiked to Intermittent Springs in Afton. To view an amazing sight. Periodic springs, or s the Indians called I "the spring that breathes" sits in a picturesque canyon above Afton, WY about five miles up a dirt road followed by a twenty minute hike. The spring stops flowing about every 15 to 20 minutes for about 15 minutes and then build back to full flow. You might find looking this up, or seeing it on u tube...

Sep 1, 2013 - More Grandchildren fun

From Star Valley Ranch RV Resort Thayne, WY We started off having a lazy morning and then I looked up where there were some springs in the town south of us in Afton. It was another amazing Wyoming town. I love the signs as you are entering these small towns. They will say population 164 or 120 then they give the elevation. We were over 6,000 feet in this town. You were welcomed to the town by driving through the largest elk horn antler arch in the country which has 3,300 antlers. The stores were so western and I love the one with the bear...

Aug 31, 2013 - Fun with Grandchildren

From Star Valley Ranch RV Resort Thayne, WY Last night Patrick drove up with the 4 oldest grandchildren. Today we decided to spend the day in Jackson Hole. Driving up the kids were restless and Patrick wasn’t paying attention and was going a little too fast and was pulled over by an officer. He took his license and registration back to his car. He had asked for his insurance card but Patrick couldn’t find it. He told the policeman that he was looking in his rearview mirror at Naomi who was afraid of driving on the road because it had a...

Aug 30, 2013 - Grand Teton National Park

From Star Valley Ranch RV Resort Thayne, WY Another road trip today. We did the Grand Teton National Park loop. The Teton Range is a 40-mile-long mountain front rising from the valley floor some 6,000 feet. The Grand Teton Peak is 13,770 feet. It was supposed to be only a partly cloudy day with a 10% chance of rain. Guess what? You can see from the pictures that wasn’t the case. The pictures are not what they should be. On a nice day, the skies would be blue and you could see the reflection of the mountains in the water. That didn’t happen....

Aug 28, 2013 - Jackson Hole

From Star Valley Ranch RV Resort Thayne, WY Today the weather report said 60% chance of rain so we decided to take the bike to get a new tire. The only one I could find was in Jackson Hole which is an hour north. The drive was so beautiful going up 89 that we stopped several times to take pictures. The Snake River runs along beside it and mountains are on all sides. The GPS took us out in the middle of a bunch of ranches, so we called and found out they were right off the highway in town. They said I had a cheap tire (which I had put on at...

Aug 27, 2013 - Wyoming

From Star Valley Ranch Resort (RPI) Thayne, WY We had a wonderful weekend with Patrick and the grandchildren. Monday morning we watched the kids get off to school then we packed up and left for Wyoming. We had two choices and meant to take 89 but after we got gas, we were on 34 which is the scenic route. It didn’t look too bad and we had been 89 several times, so thought we would see something new. It was a little winding but a nice drive until we got to the town where the campground is. The GPS told us to keep straight across 89 which we...
