Jun 12, 2019 - Sundance, Wyoming - Devil's Tower

Wednesday: We arrived in Sundance, Wyoming at the Mountain View RV Park around 5:30. It is a nice park off I-90. It has all the amenities including a pool. The owners are a great couple who are working all day to keep it nice. The town of Sundance, Wyoming is very small but has a charming feel about it. We met some nice people that made you feel like you lived here. Now we are having issues with our dining room slide. It is making thunking noises and seems like it's jumping the track. We decided to leave it in for the remainder of our trip....

Jun 21, 2015 - Sights in Northeast Wyoming

Yesterday we drove from Cheyenne, Wyoming in the southeast corner of the state to Sundance in the northeast corner. It was only 300 miles, half on interstate 25 and the other half on U.S. and state highways. A journey by car of 300 miles is hardly a day's drive these days but not so in a motorhome. It's just more tiring. You have to be more alert I would say. We arrived in Sundance at about 2:00 p.m. Sundance is a small town on the western edge of the Black Hills named after the Sundance Kid who spent some time in the jail here for...

Sep 24, 2014 - Sundance, WY

Tuesday, September 23, 2014 We left the town of West Yellowstone where we stayed in an RV park. We cleaned out the black and grey tanks and filled with water. One of the other main reason for stopping at an RV park was so Lowell could watch Monday Night Football but that channel was not available and of course, and dump the tanks which we have not dumped since we went to Augusta. We drove through Yellowstone National Park to get another chance to see Bison and possibly a wolf. We did see bison but not a wolf. We drove to Cody, WY and spent...

Sep 9, 2014 - Day 17

75.6 miles, 15.5 average, 39.28 max speed with 2726ft climbing. Today was not particularly interesting riding day due to the weather. We were going to ride to Devils Tower today but decided not to as bad weather was rolling in. Devils Tower is the rock formation featured in the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Lucky we skipped it as the last 3 miles we rode today were in a rainy fog and the temp had dropped 25 degrees. Tomorrow will be a very trying day 105 miles riding with 6000 feet climbing and a sure chance of rain, cold and...

Sep 6, 2014 - 9-6-2014 Devil's Tower

Devil’s Tower in northeast South Dakota! After driving all day and arriving in Sundance, South Dakota, we set up camp at Mountain View RV park and headed off to see Devil’s Tower about 30 miles north of town at about 5:30 PM. It seems a little weird to drive 65 MPH on two-lane roads, but I must admit I enjoyed it! The sparse population offered few encounters with other cars, but occasionally you meet up with the quad-runners or exotic off-road vehicles. Have you ever pictured what something would look like in your head, and then when you...

Aug 20, 2014 - Montana and Wyoming

Tues., Aug. 19th – It was a long day of driving out of Canada and down to Great Falls, Montana where we made the sad mistake of staying with several other RVs in the Walmart lot. It was so noisy, we moved on to Sam’s club about a mile away…not much better! From this point home, I’m keeping the Trailer Life directory close at hand to find an RV park for the night! Wed., Aug. 20th – We had forgotten how uniquely picturesque the miles of roughed terrain is in Montana and Wyoming. The brown rolling hills span as far as the eye can see with only...

Oct 1, 2013 - OTRA - WY - Sundance

Today we backtrack north to Sundance, Wyoming where we’ll stay for a couple of days before dropping down to Lusk, Wyoming. Nice drive over the same highways we took on the way to Devils Tower. Pulled into the Mountain View Campground around 2:00. We’re sort of perched on the side of a hill which doesn’t make me real comfortable. I’m afraid if there’s a strong wind, we’ll get blown right down the hill! Bob put additional chocks behind the wheels to appease me. The owner of the campground said they’ve had quite a few cancellations since the...

Sep 25, 2013 - Day 16 - Billings, MT to Sundance, WY

Today was the first day we have had rain, and it's rained pretty much of the day. We can't complain though. We have had some beautiful weather. We stopped today at the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, which was the site of "Custer's Last Stand". The Monument lies within the Crow Indian Reservation. Lesson for the day: Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument memorializes one of the last armed efforts of the Northern Plains Indians to preserve their ancestral way of life. Here in the valley of the Little Big Horn River on...

Jul 28, 2013 - Heading West Across the Plains

July 28, 2013 Sioux Falls, SD – Sundance, WY 358 miles We departed right on time and Robin bid us a fond farewell. We had no problems getting started west on I-80 with every motorcyclist in the world headed to the Sturgis rally. We stayed in the right lane at our comfortable 65 MPH even though the speed limit was 75. About an hour out of Sioux Falls we stopped at a rest area for a pit stop and Pam decided the time for her to drive could no longer be avoided. She took over and did a fine job maneuvering Brutus through miles of one lane...

Aug 23, 2012 - Good to be back in our home

Well the trailer is done but it has to sit in the sun for 8 hours so the glue can cure. We don't want to drive it to soon so we are killing time. We are only going to drive 80 miles so we don't have to leave to early. We went to the mall to kill some time and Donald walked around the truck and noticed a crack in the front right tire so he called a tire dealer and believe it or not they had one tire like the one we bought the other day. You talk about God taking care of us. Donald had called tire stores in about every town we have been in...

Jul 16, 2012 - Mountain View RV Park-Sundance, WY

We drove 51 miles today to Mountain View RV Park in Sundance, WY for two nights. Tuesday we drove to Devils Tower and walked around the tower, about a 45 minute walk. The tower is amazing--it is 867 feet tall and 1000 ft diameter at its base. In 1906 President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed Devils Tower as the first national monument. We drove to an old country store that was 110 years old and had lunch at their small country restaurant.
