May 14, 2013 - Rock Springs & Flaming Gorge
May 14th Left around 7:30 this morning. We have had no wireless access for the last 2 days and as we left the park this morning we got the phone back but not the internet. Tried off and on all the way to Rock Springs. No luck. Oh well, it is off to Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. We start in Green River, Wy. This was the starting point for John Wesley Powell on his famous trip down the Colorado River and through the Grand Canyon. We have decided to take the loop route so we head down Wy. 530. It seems to take forever before we got...

Oct 11, 2012 - Trouble
This will be quick because I've had trouble connecting to the Internet and am now using my iPad at a Starbucks in Rock Springs Cross from. The Walmart. The last 2 nights my CO detector has gone off after I've had the furnace on for a few hours. Since it is an odourless gas, I have to find a dealer today or tomorrow that can check it for me. Also yesterday I spent about an hour repairing one of my sway bars which will also need to be replaced at the dealer's. so, I'm off to find a dealer and will hopefully be able to connect to the Internet...

Sep 5, 2012 - Utah and Wyoming
September 2, 2012 Had a very pleasant drive from Hagerman Idaho to Ogden Utah. Much of the scenery was nothing more than scrub brush similar to that in New Mexico. Highlights include a man walking along the highway with his worldly belongings strapped to a goat. Yep, a goat. Wish I had gotten a picture of that one. Unlike most states the crossing from Idaho to Utah was not marked. Only the change in mileage markers indicated entry into Utah. Eventually, the landscape began to change and the Wasatch Mountains soon came into view. Though...

Aug 10, 2012 - Rock Springs, Wyoming
Today we left Cheyenne around 0600 and arrived in Rock Springs, Wyoming at 1230. A distance of 256 miles. The weather was clear and cool with the temperature this morning being 67. As we traveled the temperature climbed to 91 by the time we arrived in Rock Springs. After settling in we both took naps and around 0330 we drove to the local supermarket located about 4 miles from the campground. Before leaving the campground the skies in the west were darkening and looked threatening. We were shopping no more than 30 minutes and when we exited...

Jul 31, 2012 - Along the California, Oregon and Mormon Trails
Day 2 got off to an early start and we soon were approaching Pilot Peak near the Utah border. This mountain was the reference point that settlers used to guide on when crossing the Great Salt Lake. We stopped at a rest stop near the Bonnevile Salts Flats right inside Utah. This is the location of many land speeds record runs although the current record, slightly over mach 1) was made at Black Rock in the late 90s. At Salt Lake we picked up cloud cover which was with us all day but with only a few sprinkles. The highlight of the day was our...

Jul 29, 2012 - July 29 to Rock Springs, Wyoming
The tiniest prick of reflected light catches me around. Riding in a car, reflections dance off passing cars, bodies of water, things way off in the distance hidden in groves of trees and things much closer - like my face in the window. As we crossed from the plains of Nebraska into Wyoming the ground rose up all around and I felt terribly anxious. I heard something that sounded like urgently beating wings; then I realized it was my own panting. Brenda was either annoyed or worried about me, because she began breaking off tiny pieces of...

Jul 18, 2012 - Crazy about South Dakota
This edition of our trip journal finds us in the town of Rock Springs, Wyoming, which is close to the eastern edge of Utah and northwestern border of Colorado. After we left Pierre we traveled along Highway 34/14 through some beautiful farmland and along the way we stopped at the ultimate tourist town, Wall, South Dakota. If you have ever traversed the state before you must have seen all the billboards touting Wall Drug. They publicize that they have over 500 miles of signs alone on Interstate 80 between Minnesota and Billings, Montana!...

Jun 23, 2012 - Day 26-Rock Springs, WY
Stopped in the first town that was clear of smoke. It's close to Flaming Gorge National Monument. We drove about 30 minutes towards the Reservoir, but had seen enough. I'm sure it's very beautiful at the Reservoir, but didn't want to drive an hour, so we turned around. Ate at a local restaurant that had an "all you could eat" catfish dinner! I didn't get it, because I don't like fried seafood outside of LA. But it was surprisingly good. I tasted the hush puppies, then I knew the cook must be southern. She was from Oklahoma, not exactly...

Oct 19, 2011 - Rock Srprings, Wyoming
As forecast the temperature in Cheyenne dropped below freezing last night. When we awoke this morning around 0530 the outside temperature was 27 degrees F. Warm for some parts of the country but from where live 27 is down right cold. Ross removed the hose from the hose bib before going to bed last evening and it was a good thing because it is very likely that the hose leading into the motorhome would have frozen and cracked. We did reconnect the hose this morning when got ready to take our showers. We left Cheyenne about 0830 and headed...

Oct 17, 2011 - Rock Springs
Well the day started our okay. I went for run and stopped at Walmart for contact cleaner. But, I ended up sprinting back to beat a storm rolling in. When we left Sidney the storm had passed, but we had a strong north wind. It killed my gas mileage and stressed me out, but things got more interesting. We hit a snow storm near Laramie that worried us a little. It ended up being beautiful with snow on trees and the fall colors still there. Rock Springs was nice weather, but then our car would go in gear. I finished my Martini (stressful...
