Sep 3, 2019 - Rock Springs, Wyoming

This will be a very brief update for the blog. We are stuck in Rock Springs until at least this coming Friday at the earliest. We drove to the This morning we drove to the Cummins facility and got there 15 minutes before their posted opening time, but the door was open so we walked in. We discussed the problem we have been having and we provided them with copies of the previous work that has been done on the DPF in Flagstaff and New Glasgow. If the DPF needs to be replaced we have no idea how long it will be and we will have to get a motel...

Jul 1, 2019 - KOA Journey (6/27 - 6/29/19)

We headed to Wyoming. The drive over was very steep, probably the steepest we have taken the RV, but we made it. We stayed 3 nights at a KOA in Rock Springs. We arrived without a reservation and the clerk, Rachel, worked diligently to get us a nice site. It was a nice place to stay if a bit expensive for us. The park is a gravel lot, but the sights aren't too close. They had a pool, laundry, showers, propane. Right behind us were a lot of roads out into the desert. The first evening we tried to drive up into the hills, but found the roads...

Jun 26, 2019 - Rock Springs WY

Wednesday was our day to escape from Thermopolis and head to Rock Springs, which ain’t all that either, but it is our home for 9 nights. We have an appointment bright and early Thursday morning to get a pesky RV dash warning light checked at the local Cummins dealer; then we have an appointment Friday at Jeep to get the warranty things that couldn’t get resolved last week...we’ll see how that goes...then we have the weekend free before the rally starts on Monday. We got to Rock Springs a bit after 2:00 and after an almost hour long battle,...

Jun 16, 2019 - Tiffin Rally

Another great Tiffin Rally at Rock Springs. We thoroughly enjoyed the seminars, meals, and meeting other Tiffin owners. The weather was nice for most of the rally, and we were able to get the Aquahot and Blueox towbar serviced, along with a couple minor things done on the RV.

Summer 2019

Jun 24, 2018 - Rock Springs WY

So, we made the logical choice and are headed for...go ahead, guess. I’ll wait... We decided on California. Our thought process went like this...since we are ¾ of the way to the west coast and there are 5 national parks in California that we haven’t done yet, coupled with the fact that Yellowstone is going to be crowded and we have been there each of the last 2 years, it was a more prudent decision to knock some parks off our ever-dwindling quest. In fact, if this California visit pans out and we get these 5 done, the only 1 we will have...

Wyoming 2018

Sep 6, 2017 - Rock Springs WY

Another one-nighter. The weather has gotten cooler, thank you Lord. The Sweetwater Event complex is different. It is built for rodeo campers. Fortunately there was no rodeo. There were probably 3 dozen RV's there but that was ok because there are 1200 sites. We sprawled across 3 of them. The hookups (full) are behind little fences and some are spaced better than others. Did I mention, interstate driving is boring.

The Summer of 2017

Jun 27, 2017 - Thunderstorm and High winds

4:30 a.m. wakeup call! Thunder Over the Top of the camper, wind, rain on the camper shaking back and forth like a tornado is going to pick it up and throw it upside down. Abby freaked, Lily crawled into bed with Mom. Everyone got up, mom made coffee and we huddled at the dining table until the storm slowed down. Booked down the road to Idaho Springs for breakfast. Things were much better after breakfast, weather clearing and we took a wonderful walk around the falls. Drove to Rock Springs Wyoming again the wind. Mom said we're not camping...

Jun 25, 2017 - Rock Springs/Green River

We headed out about 8:30 taking the southern route of 799, 28, 191. Along the route we saw Antelopes grazing. This route is also the Oregon/Calif wagon route. Some the route split to another route. There was stop to see the memorial for the pioneers and a grave site. We did do a climb or two 7549 ft. There was one view was amazing. First your driving and its just plateau's, deep valleys, grazing fields then you start to climb looking back it was amazing you see how the earth shifted, where the glaciers were and the seas! Unfortunately with...

Jun 21, 2017 - Rock Springs June 17

We had dinner on the 16th and breakfast on the 17th in Dubois at a place called Cowboy’s. Essentially a diner and of the several people who recommended it, every single one mentioned the pie. The food was not nearly as greasy or salty as you might expect and we split an entrée at dinner and at breakfast with enough food left over both times to feed a 3rd person. Lots of locals dining there and they were interesting. (maybe later I’ll write about my impressions of modern day cowboys) Everyone was very friendly and many of the tables were...

Road Trip 2017

Sep 29, 2016 - Dakota Western Heritage Festival...

Backtracking a bit today to our recent trip to Pierre, SD. Several of our favorite musician friends were attending the Dakota Western Heritage Festival & were encouraging us to attend. It's a 3 day event filled with outstanding cowboy music and poetry, western artisans and vendors, demonstrations, displays of buggies, wagon and stagecoach and even cowboy church. This year there was also an awesome wagon train/trail ride. Unfortunately we didn't arrive in time to take the ride but our friend Bonnie did & she had a blast. She took some nice...
