Jul 4, 2012 - Riverton, WY
Rode 90 miles from Dubois to Riverton, WY today. We started out in beautiful red canyons and some buttes. By the end of the ride we were back in the high desert country. Tomorrow we go from Riverton to Casper -- about 115 miles. There won't be much to take pictures of, so there may be no post.

Jun 8, 2012 - Arriving in Riverton, WY
#58 6/8/2012 Today started out as an uneventful day. We headed for Wyoming, which we did accomlish without incident. However, about 100 miles outside of Riverton, WY, our destination, apparently we lost a tire on the trailer. We drove about 35 miles and didn't know it. We pulled in to take a break and some butthead honked at Bob and proceeded to cus him out about trying to kill three people back there. We had no idea what he was talking about. He finally told us that we lost a tire and left in a rage. Another gentleman also pulled in behind...

Sep 7, 2011 - On the Road to Riverton, WY
We left Cheyenne about 10 am and headed onto I-80 west to Laramie. We passed a huge Walmart distribution center and a windmill farm. Along the route we saw more ranches and oil wells. Then we ran into dense fog for several miles. Snow fences (fences erected to help keep snow from drifting across the highway) lined the highway. These fences are very common out here in the western U.S. At a rest stop at 8640-ft elevation, we saw an Abe Lincoln monument. Inside the rest stop was a display of several things common to Wyoming, including a...

Aug 8, 2011 - August 8th - Fifteenth Stop
On the way from our Yellowstone Stop, we stopped in the little town of Dubois, WY on the way to Riverton, WY., our stop on the way to Cody, WY. What a neat little town. Actually this is the third time we have stopped there. We especially like the shop with the moose antler carvings. Many of them $3,000 to $5,000. At the elk antler arch I had Muffin sit for a photo.

Jul 24, 2010 - Riverton Wyoming - a place not a destination!
Riverton Wyoming is big enough for a 24 hour Walmart but nothing else! They do have a truck and RV wash that uses 400 gallons of water each time a vehicle/truck/RV pays to get clean....and we used it to wash off all the dirt, grim, and water spots on our motorhome. It has never been this dirty! Oh, Yes! We stayed overnight in the Walmart Parking Lot...and the wind never stopped blowing.

Jul 8, 2009 - Twenty First Day
7/8/09 Today we have been on the road for three weeks. We left Cody, WY this morning and headed south for Riverton, WY as an interim stop on the way to the Grand Tetons and Jackson Hole. When we got to Thermopolis, we stopped at the Thermopolis Dinosaur Museum. This was quite something although most of the pictures inside the building did not come out because the flash on the little camera was not powerful enough. They had quite a few full scale skeletons which were dug in this area. There are several big dig sites. They had a...

Oct 1, 2008 - Riverton
We have now left Thermopolis after spending 3 nights there, we swam and soaked in the thermal pools everyday while there, they had pools with temperatures up to 106 degrees. We are now in Riverton travelling 56 miles today through the scenic Wind River Canyon. Lovely campsite the best so far,we can sit outside in the sun here, it's 77 today. We went to Shoshoni this afternoon to go to Yellowstone Drug Store where the World's Best Malts & Shakes are made, they were good, not good for the figure though.Former President Gerald Ford's...

Oct 1, 2008 - Day 122
Day 122, Sept 30, Today’s Plan; Go to Casper, Wyoming. We are off just after 9:00 under cloudless skies. This country is barren. There are endless miles of grasslands, the highway and at times a few Pronghorn Antelope and some cattle. Almost all the cattle are black. It is like the area West of Calgary only there are no mountains in the distance. We drive on until lunch at a roadside rest stop. We eat our remaining pizza and motor on. The country is flat enough that the truck rolls along in drive with little shifting or interference for...

Jul 18, 2008 - Riverton, WY - Thermopolis, Wind River Canyon
(Ron Writing) This morning we, somewhat reluctantly, left our beautiful campsite in the Big Horn National Forest. We both agreed that this would be a great area to spend a summer if we someday decide to do less traveling. Last night our weather alert radio warned of severe storms with golf ball sized hail a little to the east of our location. We got a thunder shower with a good rain but no hail. When we awoke this morning it was clear and 50°. There weren’t even any clouds over the high peaks of the mountains. But we started to get a...

Jun 30, 2008 - Riverton Wy-1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous Site
At 9:00 am we were unhooked and ready to leave Casper. The scenery on Rt 20 was mostly prairie and oil tanks. You can see for miles without spotting a building. We saw antelope, elk, and lots of cattle. Unfortunaely, the antelope and elk were too far away to take a photo. Lots of yucca in bloom but they are no where near as tall as the yucca in Texas. Turned onto Rt 26 at Shoshoni and that is when I took the photo of part of the reservoir at Boysen State Park. Arrived at our campground by ll:30. We set up, had lunch, and headed for the Wind...

May 5, 2008 - Riverton and the casino
Drove from Thermopolis to Riverton where I spent the night. Decided to try my luck at the Wind River Casino...had seen advertising signs all along the highway. Expected a big fancy place...nope. Squat little building attached to a gas station. 400 slot machines but not a poker machine in sight. Played for about an hour...lost 99 cents.

Apr 22, 2008 - Wandering in Wyoming
Today we left Utah and made our way north into Wyoming, a new state for the two of us. It's been more than six years since we added a new state to our list, and as I said yesterday, Wyoming is state #39 of the 50 US states. We left Vernal early and almost immediately were climbing over a mountain range. The snow was thick, but the roads were clear, making it a relatively quick trip. The first highlight was the Flaming Gorge Recreation Area. It's a massive man-made lake in the mountains, behind a huge concrete dam. The surrounding rocks are...
