Aug 15, 2019 - Rawlins WY

It was windy and dusty in WY, so windy in fact that, even hooked to the truck, the RV shook. Red Desert Rose Campground gave us a 15% veterans discount. The couple who ran the campground could not have been nicer. They even had a car that they loaned to campers if they wanted to go shopping or to dinner and didn’t want to use their own vehicle. But we continued to clean out stuff and were too tired so we ordered in Dominos.

Jul 7, 2019 - Western Hills Campground (7/7 - 7/8/19)

We left Riverton heading to Rawlins. It was 123 miles and there is very little civilization between the two cities. There was one spot heading up a mountain that was very steep. The RV was moving slow, but finally made it without any trouble. It was a very nice ride and we saw several dozen pronghorn on the way. I am really going to miss all the wildlife we see out here. We stayed at Western Hills Campground, site #67. It was a very nice park with all the amenities. There is a very nice laundry room. Next to the laundry is an 18-hole mini...

Jun 11, 2019 - Grand Teton to Rawlins

Up early this morning getting pictures unloaded and updating my blog, made some coffee in my cabin, packed up and back on the road. As the sun is shining this morning I am heading back into Grand Teton Park to get pictures of the mountains with the sun shining on them, a nice drive through the park stopping many times along the way, with a drive up a narrow road to the top of Signal Mountain it was a 5 mile drive one, nice view of the valley from the top at 7227 ft. Back down and made my way out of the park heading to Rawlins where I...

Another adventure

Oct 4, 2018 - 10/4/18 Rawlins, WY

After spending much of the summer planning South High Class of 1968’s 50 year reunion (which happened mid-September), Bill got an itch to take a trip. We are heading to the Sacramento area to see his sister Bev and Verle. We left home about 10am this morning, and drove through storms most of the afternoon. We are spending tonight in Rawlins, WY, and it is wet, windy, and cold here. We actually had to pull out our winter coats! Poor Mo is snuggled in his blanket, trying to ignore the weather outside. Our campground has no frills, but is very...

Oct 2, 2018 - The Long Haul

2018-10-02. The long haul! We have been traveling for six days now and have finally arrived in Colorado where we'll stay for several days while visiting my brother and cousins. Suffice it to say that it was a rude, though not totally unpleasant shock to go from the lush, moist, greens of the Olympic Peninsula into the vast, dry, desert of the high plains. The ride through eastern Washington to Oregon, through Idaho and Wyoming was everchanging but yet the same. It seemed that every fifty miles or so, the terrain would go from empty, beige,...

Jul 4, 2018 - Rawlins, Wyoming

Happy Independence Day, Friends and Family! Today we moved the RV a little bit east (206 miles) to the city of Rawlins. It is also located in Interstate-80. This is just an overnight stop at Western Hills Campground. Again, limited facility, but the price is right. Tomorrow we are moving to Laramie for a three night stay.

Jun 22, 2018 - The wind is with us!

Thought we would try our luck for breakfast at The Split Rock Cafe! The Bar and Cafe that sent us away to claim our spot at the church! The Scottish couple had shared their experience trying to get dinner and it didn't sound too positive! They were told most items on the menu had run out and what they did get was difficult to identify! But what can you do to eggs, right? So we stopped. You kow I don't like to judge, but I could make up some interesting stories about the cook! It took about 30 minutes to get our eggs and then he forgot the...

Jun 10, 2018 - Thank God for Truckers

The day started out really fun. And if you don't like photos of prairie dogs, you won't like my first group of photos. Buddy was fascinated. At age four, Boots already is acting like an old man. I got out of Park City late...about 10:15, but expected to be in Rawlins, WY for the night by 3 p.m. A good day of traveling. It wasn't really a scenic day, some interesting protrusions and cool formations, but once out of Utah (and I-80 certainly doesn't take you through Utah's splendors), Wyoming can get pretty boring. Some variety here and there...

May 24, 2018 - Rawlins, Wyoming

24-May-18 Rawlins, WY We left Park City RV Resort at 10:15 and stopped at the Sinclair truck stop on the East end of Park City for fuel. Diesel was $3.359/gal. It was about 11:15 before we were back on the road. It’s about 250 miles to Rawlins with a lot of elevation changes and cross winds. About halfway between Park City and Rawlins is The Little America Travel Center where we stopped for lunch and bought a 75 cent ice cream cone. We crossed the continental divide twice. Once at mile marker 150 (6950 feet) and the other at mile marker 211...

Wyoming 2018

Sep 20, 2017 - Rawlins, WY

Rawlins, WY; Carbon County (lots of coal deposits Elevation 9,259 feet Population 9,259 Median home price $155,000 Very windy, 31 mph gusts today. In 1867, General Rawlins oversaw surveyors for the first transcontinental railroad, but what he really wanted was good drinking water. After a scout brought water from a local spring he liked it so much the area became Rawlins Spring (later shortened to Rawlins). I researched by mother's family through Ancestry.com and found many settled in New York and the New England area colonies. During the...
