May 28, 2019 - Lusk, SD

After Colorado, we headed up through Cheyenne Wyoming and turned northeast heading towards South Dakota. Weather was mostly heavy rain with some breaks so we were able to enjoy the views of the vast green grasses of the rolling hills. Just before South Dakota, we decided to pull over to do a night of boondocking at a rest area located on the edge of Lusk, WY. As we pulled in we saw a sign that read "No overnight parking:". Looking around we saw nearby, Prairie View RV Park. Aha, the park probably paid off Lusk officials to pass an...

Jul 19, 2018 - On the Road to Estes Park

We decided that we would just head toward Estes Park and spend 5 days there. We did not want to make too long a drive so we decided to stay at Lusk, Wyoming. This is a small tgown of about 95 people that used to be a big railroad town and now is just hanging in there. The interesting thing is we came upon the Mammoth Dig site in Hot Springs, SD. This is a place were a long time ago, a bunch of Mammoths got caught on a big sink hole and died and the remains were discovered and have been preserved, Check it out at www.mammothsite.org. It was...

May 29, 2017 - Lusk WY

Mon, 29 May: Memorial Day 2017! Our thanks to all who have served... After almost two weeks at the Westminster CO Elks Lodge it is time to move on. We had a good time in the Denver area, especially Bob who got to hobnob with his stamp buddies. But enough is enough... We were up early this morning and got things ready for the road. We got Carpe Diem started and moved her from her parking area to the middle of the Elks Lodge parking lot to connect our tow car, Carpe Dinkum. Once securely connected, brake & light checks complete, we rolled...

Aug 26, 2015 - Lusk, WY

Wed, 26 Aug: Back on the road again... After staying put for nine days at the Rapid City Elks Lodge it is finally time to roll wheels. Yes, we were allowed to stay an additional two days, which were most relaxing and worthwhile. We did some more laundry, stocked our larder, and had an opportunity to eat out some more. Rapid City does have some very good places to eat. Yesterday we topped up our fresh water tank. Our diesel tank was full, we topped it up when we arrived last Monday. We should have waited as the price at the Pilot/Flying J...

Sep 3, 2013 - Passing through Wyoming

Tuesday, 9-3-13 Today was a driving day, although not too long of a drive. It was about 110 miles from our spot in Custer to Lusk Wyoming. I gassed up in Custer not knowing what the gas prices may be in Wyoming, it turns out to be a wash. I called Dan and Barbara on my sisters cell phone (It seems there is no AT&T reception in South Dakota or Wyoming) and let them know we were at the edge of town. We then drove to their place and was greeted by Barbara wearing her JBL T-Shirt. We spoke briefly and Dan climbed onboard to drive to the BJ’s RV...

Aug 23, 2013 - Lunch stop in Lusk, Wyoming

Lusk, Wyoming was just a small town we were passing through at lunch time. I googled restaurants and got a good review for The Coffee Shoppe. We would have driven right past if not for that review! The outward appearance wasn't much but inside we were greeted warmly and the choices were plentiful. We ate our sandwiches while watching the locals come and go. A few kids on their way to the town "plunge" stopped in to order soft drinks and a cowboy with his 2 sons ordered a latte for "Mama"! You could tell that "this was not their first rodeo"...

We only had to go 100 miles and it's just a place to stay between here and there, you know what I mean?? Our little RV park had 19 spaces.....HA! I've just spent about an hour updating the journal and now I think I'll go relax with Dave and maybe we'll play games or something. Internet connection still not good at our site, but I'm in the office and it's working lightening fast!

May 22, 2013 - Lafayette (Denver), Colorado to Lusk, Wyomimg

Wednesday 22nd May 2013 Denver, Colorado to Lusk, Wyoming (314miles/506km) We slept till about 7am in our new time zone here in Denver and had a beautiful breakfast, repacked our bags and then set off to the north from near Denver at about 11:15am. The day was crystal clear and warm with a bit of a breeze. We drove across the border into Wyoming after about an hour and continued through amazingly empty country, beautiful mountains and grasslands all around us, mainly not large towns. Stunning landscapes. We stopped for a break in a park in...

/// Western Hill Campground Rawlins, WY Thursday - May 9, 2013 Much cooler this morning. I didn't set up the weather suite last night but the overnight low was far above the freezing mark. Shortly we will pack up and head further northeast to Lusk, WY. Our route will be along Hwy 287 to Casper, WY then a short distance east on I-25 to the Jct. of Hwy 18. This route will cover a distance of approximately 220 miles. We traveled along some of this route last spring and last fall, so I'm looking forward to another scenic day. This route also...

Jul 7, 2012 - Lusk, WY

Not much to report today. We are going across a pretty sparsely populated portion of Wyoming (see photo). In Douglas, the biggest town we went through, they had a giant statue of a jackalope -- they seem to be fascinated with those things. Unfortunately, my camera wasn't with me, so you will have to go in person to see it. The company organizing the ride is having a pizza party tonight for us. I may set a personal record for number of slices eaten.
