Sep 15, 2015 - National Museum of Wildlife Art

Our schedule for the day is to visit the National Museum of Wildlife Art as there was a prediction of rain, museum being the perfect spot in the rain. It had rained most of the night and off and on in the morning, so we decided to enjoy the rain (trying out how to get it to Southern California) and also do some laundry with a departure time of noonish for the museum. Laundry finished we headed out - we had heard that the museum's cafe was a good place to eat, so of course we had to try it - the Judis split a burratto and tomato sandwich...

Sep 14, 2015 - Looking for Bears

Another leisurely morning after our 14-hour trip to Yellowstone yesterday. We were going to take the aerial tram up to the top of the mountain but as it was cloudy and rain was forecast, we decided on Plan B. We decided to check and see if the Moose-Wilson Road into the park (which is close to where we are staying) was still closed due to bear activity (closed to protect the bears, not the tourists). Turns out the first 4 miles were open today and we could get to the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve. At least that is what we told the park...

Sep 12, 2015 - Lazy Day

After our busy day yesterday, we decided no alarms today. We spent a leisurely morning planning the next trip--Anita got an e-mail for a great deal from Frontier Airlines-- before watching the Women's Final of the US Open. Fortunately for us, there was a rain delay which pushed the match from Friday to today. Felt bad for Serena not making it to the finals, but we were happy for the two Italian friends who were the surprise finalists. We then headed out to Jackson to check out the downtown. We had to proceed carefully as Teton Village was...

Sep 11, 2015 - Wildlife Safari & Scenic Snake River Float

Having an early breakfast and dressed for cool morning and warm afternoon we were ready at 7:00am when Kyle, our Wildlife Safari guide, rang the doorbell. There were three others on our tour that were already on board. Our first sighting was a herd of Elk a short distance down the road. We then stopped at the condo complex where the other guests were staying as they had seen a mother moose and her calf in the neighborhood. We lucked out as they were still eating at the front door of one of the condos. Then we were off to find bears, bison,...

Sep 10, 2015 - Grand Tetons

After checking in at the office and suggesting they put the address on the house we're renting we headed out to find some breakfast. We ended up at the Spur per the recommendation from the man checking us in and it was close. Turned out to be a buffet, so we all did our best to try everything there. Then it was off to the market to stock our larder for the week. We found a local organic market along the lines of a Whole Foods so it took us quite awhile to check everything out. And, lucky for us, it turned out it was Senior Day and we got...

Aug 15, 2015 - Grand Tetons

Today (Saturday) we left Yellowstone and headed south into Grand Tetons National Park. Once again the weather was fantastic with blue skies and a few puffy clouds. We hoped we might see some more animals in Yellowstone but going the route in past Old Faithful and then south toward the Tetons did not produce any viewings. However shortly after we got into the Grand Tetons National Park on the main roadway we did happen to have a Mama Black Bear and her two cubs run across the road right in front of us. Of course our cameras were not at the...

Aug 3, 2015 - Jackson Hole, WY

Jackson Hole is a fun little western tourist town. We saw a fantastic play, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, with a cast of young enthusiastic characters. The building where the theater is located is 100 years old. They had an old piano in the lobby and we convinced Janet from our caravan to play for us. Janet toured with Kate Smith as a child and played the piano as her opening act. She is also the only person I know who took out her kitchen in the RV and put in an organ. We also went to a chuck wagon dinner followed by an evening of...

Jun 24, 2015 - Grand Tetons

We made it to the Tetons. This is where I am typing at the laundry. This Park is extremely huge and busy. The road to the campsite always has a car or RV either coming or going. We arrived Sunday and were able to get a nice spot. Not quite enough light for Mike's solar charger so we are moving the charger around with the sun. The battery is getting low so we may have to change campsites. The Tetons are a little higher than Grandfather Mountain in NC. There is quite a bit of snow on them and Mike has taken some phenomenal pictures Once he...
