Jul 3, 2020 - Hike at LSR

Date: July 3, 2020 Weather: sunny Temperature: start 50º High 82º Wildlife count: Pronghorn, Mule Deer Year List: 318 Birds: Canada Jay, Hermit Thrush We met Kathy M at the LSR Preserve at 8:15 and together we hiked about 5 miles out the service road and up to Phelps Lake, enjoying almost no other hikers in the area. It was a delightful hike. Lunch was a Quiznos, then a quick stop at the grocery to allow us not to have to go out during the holiday weekend. John and Charma joined us for an early happy hour, then we began prep for dinner....

Jul 2, 2020 - Costco for tires

Date: July 2, 2020 Weather: partly sunny Temperature: start 50º High 73º Wildlife count: Pronghorn Year List: 316 Birds: Left early for Pocatello and the Costco where we had new tires installed. Also shopped at Costco and Walmart. Arrived home around 3:30, unpacking and freezing the meat we bought – found steaks, ribs, chicken, and ham. Ran over to Natalie’s to take her cookies and see her beautiful flowers. Dinner was chicken, mashed potatoes, and salad. crashed.

Jul 1, 2020 - VC garden

Date: July 1, 2020 Weather: clouds, sun, rain Temperature: start 44º High 68º Wildlife count: Year List: 316 Birds: We weeded and put new mulch on the VC garden, and it looks a lot nicer. Relaxed after lunch, then fueled the truck in a thunderstorm with lots of traffic! Dinner was grilled pork steak, green salad and corn. Joined all the Miller volunteers for an impromptu meet & greet at the laundry room, all in masks and socially distant.

Jun 30, 2020 - Lovely walk, Walt & Betty arrive

Date: June 30, 2020 Weather: intermittent showers Temperature: start 43º High 60º Wildlife count: Year List: 316 Birds: Had a lovely walk at Garaman trail between showers, a little over 3 miles. The flowers are beautiful and with the threatened rain, we did not even take our binoculars. Checked the VC for trash, then came home to open the gates for Walt and Betty. We relaxed in the afternoon, then made stroganoff for dinner, allowing it to simmer for an hour. Turned it off and enjoyed a socially distanced happy hour in the laundry with...

Jun 29, 2020 - Rainy day - pretty evening

Date: June 29, 2020 Weather: showers most of day, evening sun Temperature: start 44º High 58º Wildlife count: Year List: 316 Birds: Enjoyed breakfast at Bubba’s, then bought mulch, grocery shopped and emptied trash at VC, spending a little time with Kasey. Returned home and enjoyed a quiet day reading. After a pizza dinner of our own making, we drove up through Kelly and watched the storm clouds appear and disappear over the Teton Range. What a wonderful place and beauty to behold.

Jun 28, 2020 - Rainy indoor day

Date: June 28, 2020 Weather: rain most all day Temperature: start 46º High 63º Wildlife count: Year List: 316 Birds: Up for 6:30 church, but just barely! Breakfast followed and with the steady rain, we spent much of the day indoors – took a short walk on a rain break. Dinner was chicken enchiladas, which I prepared under the broiler, which turned out great.

Interesting that we saw Ruddy Ducks and Cinnamon Teal courting mates – we’d assume that it is the second brood for these couples, but the guys were certainly strutting their stuff! Date: June 26, 2020 Weather: sunny Temperature: start 43º High 80º Wildlife count: Year List: 316 Birds: We had planned to walk this morning but caught up in work instead. We began the morning at the VC, where we emptied the recycle bins, sorting out the trash. Just as we finished the job, the recycle pick-up arrived – just perfect! Next, we grocery shopped, picked up our mail, and had the propane tank filled. Once home, we got out the lawn mowers and mowed where the new volunteers will be staying when they arrive next week, and John...

Jun 25, 2020 - Rainy Day

Date: June 25, 2020 Weather: showers much of the day, clear in evening Temperature: start 49º High 66º Wildlife count: Year List: 316 Birds: Stayed at the campground all day. Between showers, John cleaned the bugs off the Lance and the dust off the back after the dirt roads on our vacation. We paid bills then relaxed. Spent the afternoon playing “Trains” with John and Charma, sitting in the laundry room wearing masks, as it is hard to play a board game at 6’! Dinner was a single crust chicken pot pie – good comfort food for a cool day.

Date: June 24, 2020 Weather: sunny, a shower in the evening Temperature: start 49º High 85º Wildlife count: Wild Horses, Pronghorn, Prairie Dogs, Golden-mantle Ground Squirrel, Chizzlers Year List: 316 Birds: Greater Sage Grouse Left our campsite around 7am and saw this large family of Sage Grouse – what a treat! Sage Grouse is what the Seedskadee NWR is named for, as well as originally the Green River. We were at the VC around 9 to record the weather, then on to the grocery store to buy the last items for our outing and ice, recycling at Albertsons on the way back.
