Very few people in the restaurant. Completed our work at the VC, then met with Zane to gather materials for a sandwich board sign that will replace the kiosk at the entrance to the Elk Refuge. Jan 25, 2021 - Our first Sleigh Ride

Date: January 25, 2021 Weather: mostly sunny Temperature: start 1º High 25º Wildlife count: Elk, coyote, Year List: 35 Birds: Up and completed our tasks at the VC. Moved to HQ to assemble Swan packets to be given to children on sleigh rides. Came home for lunch and changed to warmer layers and our own coats. As part of our volunteer job, we are given complementary tickets for the sleigh ride and then evaluate the bus driver and sleigh driver, so today was our first opportunity. What an amazing day! Date: January 24, 2021 Weather: morning clouds and snow, afternoon sun Temperature: start 12º High 28º Wildlife count: Elk, Mule Deer Year List: 35 Birds: Up very early and showered before worship at 6:30. It was excellent, on hell or heaven. Completed our chores including weather at the VC – just a trace of new snow. Home and allowed the sun to arrive and the temps to rise. Date: January 23, 2021 Weather: cloudy am, sunny pm Temperature: start 20º High 39º Wildlife count: Elk, Bighorn Sheep Year List: 35 Birds: Golden Eagle Up and completed chores at the VC – had little to do as we emptied all the trash yesterday. Home and cleaned the house, then headed to the laundry. Put clothes in the washer, then took a great ride out onto the refuge. Date: January 22, 2021 Weather: cloudy, snowy Temperature: start 28º High 38º Wildlife count: Elk Year List: 34 Birds: Lazy morning, completed VC chores and loaded maybe the last boxes for Kasey. Came home and worked on a grocery list, then shopped. After yesterday, we were beat, so I napped and John relaxed. Dinner was meatloaf, cauliflower, and creamed peas with grilled bread. Mostly a lazy day.

Stopped for breakfast and lunch from Cowboy Coffee, then headed into the park. Stopped at Flagg Ranch to use the restroom and change to a snowcoach, which was on mattrax. Date: January 19, 2021 Weather: sunny Temperature: start -2º High 18º Wildlife count: Elk Year List: 34 Birds: Clark’s Nutcracker We enjoyed breakfast at Bubba’s this morning, then completed tasks at the VC. Waited a bit for some warming, then enjoyed a delightful walk around town, seeing several birds. We met with Natalie at 3 to get a list of tasks. Dinner was left-over prime rib from Christmas and fresh sauteed onion, red pepper and zucchini. Delightful day.

Date: January 18, 2021 Weather: bright sunshine, fog over Pine Creek Pass and into Victor Temperature: start 10º High 27º Wildlife count: Elk Year List: 33 Birds: American Robin, Evening Grosbeak Spent a few hours at the VC completing tasks. Once home, the day was SO beautiful, we decided to take a long ride. Drove south, through the Snake River canyon and then alongside the Palisades. While there, we saw a flock of birds, that when we were able to find them in our binoculars, turned out that it was a flock of Greater Sage-Grouse – what a treat! There were around a dozen of them.
