Sep 25, 2012 - Day 8
Monday 9/25 Today we woke up in Mammoth springs and headed down the eastern loop of Yellowstone. The drive was pretty and we saw a ton of Bison and deer and elk. It was a short trip, about 20 miles because the other part of the figure 8 in Yellowstone is already closed. At that point we backtracked to Mammoth Springs and took the North road to the Roosevelt Arch. Anything you drive in YP is gorgeous of course. The arch is a great piece of history, dedicate to Teddy for his work in establishing and protecting our national parks. Then back to...

Beautiful drive today, however there is a lot of smoke in the air, from the Jackson hole fire. Traveled through yellowstone to the Tetons. Nice campsite at Gross Ventra. This evening, we went on a drive looking for wildlife. Saw a 7 pt bull elk! For Terry, todays highlight was Dinner at the sportsbar in Jackson Hole, where we saw WSU beat UNLV! However there were several distractions at the bar, and Ken couldn't seem to concentrate on the game since our waitress seemed be flaunting here puppies everywhere! Did I say they turned off the...

Left Yellowstone on Sunday 9/9/12 and went to Grand Teton National Park. We spent 3 days there leaving for home on Wednesday 9/12/12. The mountains are stunning and they look as if they are right on top of you. We had a great campsite in the park on Jackson Lake. We did a series of hikes the longest was on Monday 9/10/12. We hiked 6 miles round trip to Inspiration Point. Patty wasn't going to go all the way to the top until two people older then us and with a cane continue to the top. We than proceeded immediately to the top. When we left...

Sep 3, 2012 - Yellowstone Day 3/drive to Jackson, WY
Left Flagg Ranch around 7:30, well rested, knowing we wanted to go back to the upper geyser basin in Yellowstone about 90 minutes away. Did I tell you that this is a big park? LOL. We wanted to see the Grand Prismatic Spring and other small geysers in that area on Sunday, but it was WAY too crowded. When we got there today, there were only a handful of other early risers, and we had the boardwalk nearly to ourselves. Even though there are many hot springs in this area, they are all different. We saw another eruption here, and again while...

Aug 27, 2012 - Jackson
The day is brilliant, clear blue skies and so its time to head to the Grand Teton National Park for the day. Got the "haystack" pictures Van had been wanting to get and headed to Teton Village for the ride to the top on the gondola. There is a happy hour that is from 4-6 at the outdoor restaaurant. We are "rethinking" leaving now that the smoke has cleared but will make that decision tomorrow or the next day. The ride to the top was beautiful, we have waited days for the skies to clear and get our chance to go to the top. The crowd was...

Aug 25, 2012 - Bar J Wranglers
We spent the day catching up on repairs, a seemingly on going issue, and doing laundry, etc. We normally don't participate in "tourist" type items, but decided to go to a western program by the Bar J Wranglers over at Teton Village. Two differnt friends had recommended we go telling us it was great fun. We headed out and were so glad we went, the music was great, a very family oriented program. The family has been doing this for some 32 years, though they claim they still ranch, this has to be a full time job. They have some 60,000 people...

Aug 23, 2012 - Hiking Phillips Canyon
Today we decided to hike in the Phillips Canyon, looking for beautiful scenery and we had heard there were huckleberries on that trail!!! It was a beautiful hike, some open spaces, part among the trees and just magnificant scenery. As we hiked along we spotted a pretty good size buck and stood and watched him while he watched us. So fortunate to get to see all the wildlife in its natural home. As we traveled on the last part of the hike was steep and rocky but soon it revealed a beautiful alpine lake. The wind blew down the canyon & we had...

Aug 19, 2012 - Grand Teton National Park... winding down
Today is the 19th and for the first time it is cloudy outside. A bit of rain would certainly help the fires in Idaho and other states. Yesterday the mountains were more visible than they have been and I drove around to see wildlife and found myself in the middle, literally, of a bison herd of several hundred. They were on either side of the road, crossing at will. The males were snorting and mock fighting while the females were nursing their young. I was amazed at being able to just sit there and take it all in. They were around the old...

Aug 18, 2012 - Teton National Park
Today we headed to the Hobacek River to fish, we've got the perfect flies and are ready to go. I have a new fly rod since my just broke !!! Found one at one of the fly shops and it should do me well. I'm sure it will catch lots of fish. The trip over the pass and south through Jackson was beautiful. I know my sister and brother in law used to live somewhere around here, its all changed so much, I don't recognize anything. Could be because its been 30 years ago. We found the perfect fishing spot, and then another perfect spot, but after...

Aug 16, 2012 - Grand Teton National Park...there's more
The mountains continue to be smoke covered and almost invisible. Just a shadow behind the haze. There are forest fires in many areas of Idaho and I guess Montana too so I’m not sure if/when this will clear up. So I’ve been focusing on errands I need to run and indoor things to do. Yesterday I got Abby’s special diet cat food at the Jackson vet and looked around the square, played tourist, and did some souvenir shopping. On the 14th, I was headed into town to do laundry—town is about 25 miles, round trip. I was headed to ‘The Missing Sock’...
