Jul 13, 2016 - Guernsey, Wyoming

July 13 Leaving a little early today 8:00 a.m. found diesel for only $2.299 a gallon. Just after leaving Rawlins we pass a huge refinery in the town of Sinclair, Sinclair Oil? must look for the dinosaur. We spent the night RV World campground. Not a bad park, they guide you to your spot and if you don’t want to unhook they have a courtesy car you can borrow for a trip to Wal-Mart. We have already climbed to 7800’ with miles of 2 lane construction. Finally, some trees, beginning to think I would never see them again. Medicine Bow National...

Oct 14, 2011 - Register Cliff

Talk about tagging and graffiti! What an amazing place to visit. We walked along the cliff for about a half a mile and there are thousands and thousands of initials, full names and dates, and explanations for being there. There is apparently one entry on the cliff from the early 1800's but we didn't locate that one. The really old ones are fenced off so nobody can deface them..lots of people still write their names on the cliff to join this shared experience. I just ran across this list of things that were suggest for the emigrants to take...

On The Road Again!

Oct 14, 2011 - Oregon Trail Ruts

This was our last stop on the sight seeing trip in Wyoming. The sites are all really well preserved and informative signs and plaques dot the trails. We feel like we have learned so much about the beginnings of the occupation of the West by European settlers. The Native Americans did not stand a chance against the onslaught.

On The Road Again!

May 16, 2010 - Guernsey, WY

Ever wonder how a windmill blade travels from factory to destination - not easily !!! See pic #1 So we continue following the westward trail along the No. Platte River into Casper Wyoming. Stopped at "Register Rock" - a landmark where the pioneers would carve their name and date of passing in the limestone cliff. Supposedly the oldest date noted is 1850 - but I couldn't find it amongst the 100s of other modern date graffiti. It's a National Historic Site - but there were no signs discouraging present day tourists from writing their own...

Aug 2, 2006 - Tracks of the Past in Guernsey, Wyoming

Moving southwest from Rapid City, we stopped in Lusk, Wyoming, for a couple of nights. Tuesday was our wedding anniversary so we celebrated by doing what we like to do: explore. We wanted to see the town of Guernsey and some historic sites nearby. Traveling south on WY 270, we passed an area where the prairie had suffered a fire. Soon we saw that the fire had attacked a wooded area as well, and then jumped the highway to more prairie land. There was still a smoky smell as we moved along, and Suzy saw smoke still rising in one area. At a...
