Jul 4, 2019 - Happy 4th of July

We hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July. We had the usual grilled hot dogs for lunch and decided to do something special for dinner. We made reservations for five at the Flying Saddle Restaurant in the little town of Alpine, Wyoming. We heard they had a special local red trout dinner using Idaho Red Trout. I think it is also called Rainbow Trout, but not sure. It was incredible. Alpine is about a twenty mile drive for us, we enjoyed seeing all the 4th of July picnics along the Snake River and tons of boats in the water. We also enjoyed...

Jun 19, 2017 - From Heber City, Utah to Alpine, Wy

After staying a night in a very icee RVpark in Heber city, Utah, we traveled to the city of Alpine, Wy. Parking in a RV Park behind the only tavern in the city, we had an adult beverage, met the mayor and some fellow seasonal Arizonian friends. Very interesting conversations and learned about great fishing places and times of year to partake. Very fun town, I would definitely come back in the future. Restaurant waitresses didn't know what a scotch on rocks was and charged us for a wine on bill for 3.50. Jack our campground host was a hoot...

Aug 14, 2016 - Church day

Off to church this morning for 10:30 services. Karen thought it was a great service. When we got back I grilled up a couple of Karn's famous cheese and bacon stuffed hamburgers. They were extra good, we were extra hungry too. I think I'm beginning to learn how to use this new grill. I've been cooking on a charcoal grill for 50 years but this Weber gas grill has it's advantages. We sat around and solved most of the world's problems the rest of the afternoon. We've had the nicest weather on this trip and this afternoon was no exception. ...

Aug 13, 2016 - Alpine, Wyoming.

This is the view out of our windshield, not too bad! I fixed Karen an omelet this morning. She said that it was because she was such a good girl, well, OK then. We goofed around with our new neighbors at the campground today. Went out for lunch then sat around and visited and enjoyed our company....

Aug 12, 2016 - Reunion

We took off from Idaho Falls this morning heading east on US 26. Again some beautiful country we traveled through. We were excited because we might meet up with Denis and Carolyn and Kat and Mike today. This lake I'm sure has a name but I don't know what it is but it is on the Snake River. US 26 runs next to it for it's entire length terminating at Alpine, Wyoming, which is where we will be for the next 3 days. While Karen was checking in at Grey's RV park, Kat and Mike, pulled in. Kat and Mike are friends of ours that wintered in Texas...

Jul 20, 2012 - Day 6; Wyoming Montana

Day 6: It almost ended.... Waking up in a bed seemed a little odd for this trip. We packed up (after Charlie stumbled down to the lobby, growled at a few startled guests, and got two cups of complimentary coffee) and hit the road north. This would be one of the few paved highway transitions that would take us to our next long off road section. About 50 miles later we hit the dirt and began to climb into the mountains again. The weather was perfect if not a bit warm at 85 degrees with a few clouds. Being dirt the road (two track) was rutted...

Smith Tour 2012

Jun 18, 2010 - Where are we?

We arrived in Alpine, Wyoming yesterday afternoon. Our plan is to stay in this area for a few days until we move up to our remote camp in West Yellowstone. We are close to Jackson, Wy. and Grand Teton National Park and will do day trips around there. We have discovered some cool bike trails and will go find those today. We had chosen this place from vigorous internet surfing. The pictures on their website were decent. The sites were not shaded, fine with us being as it was going to be cool for a few days and we wanted full solar exposure...

May 31, 2008 - Day 49 Route 89 Logan; Bear Lake & Montpelier

Day 49 Saturday 31th May Route 89 Logan; Bear Lake & Montpelier Page 31, L9 Continuing our northward journey along Rte 89; the journey through Logan Canyon was a delight, lovely bright green leaves of the Aspen trees, swift running creeks and rivers and high mountains. After a steady climb, we were at the Bear Lake summit where we had a panoramic view of the lake from one end to the other. It is not hard to see why it is such a popular holiday resort. Our next stop was at Paris where there was another Mormon Temple built in 1888. We have...
