May 22, 2013 - Lafayette (Denver), Colorado to Lusk, Wyomimg
Wednesday 22nd May 2013 Denver, Colorado to Lusk, Wyoming (314miles/506km) We slept till about 7am in our new time zone here in Denver and had a beautiful breakfast, repacked our bags and then set off to the north from near Denver at about 11:15am. The day was crystal clear and warm with a bit of a breeze. We drove across the border into Wyoming after about an hour and continued through amazingly empty country, beautiful mountains and grasslands all around us, mainly not large towns. Stunning landscapes. We stopped for a break in a park in...

May 14, 2013 - Rock Springs & Flaming Gorge
May 14th Left around 7:30 this morning. We have had no wireless access for the last 2 days and as we left the park this morning we got the phone back but not the internet. Tried off and on all the way to Rock Springs. No luck. Oh well, it is off to Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. We start in Green River, Wy. This was the starting point for John Wesley Powell on his famous trip down the Colorado River and through the Grand Canyon. We have decided to take the loop route so we head down Wy. 530. It seems to take forever before we got...

May 12, 2013 - Sheridon, Wyoming
Good Morning and Happy Mothers Day to everyone. We got up this morning and it was another beautiful day. We started out and headed west on I90. We don't have a specific park to head to but have found 2 rv parks in Buffalo that we will check out. We traveled down I90 and saw the country side change from rolling hills and pastures. After we entered Wyoming we climbed to over 5000 ft elevation and then back down to 3500 ft. We hit some grades as we got closer to the Big Horn mountains. We got to Buffalo and went to the Mountain View RV park....

May 11, 2013 - Off-season Travel
It has been one month since we left Camp Mesa and it feels like so long ago. We are enjoying the off-season travel which means empty campgrounds and no crowds. We know it won’t last long but we’ll enjoy it while we can. After a beautiful drive through open range and traveling along the Wind River Canyon, we arrived in Thermopolis. In Thermopolis, we could not resist going to the Hot Springs State park twice to soak in the 104 degree thermal hot springs. The next day we visited the local museum which was stuffed to the gills with an eclectic...

May 9, 2013 - Leg #5
/// Western Hill Campground Rawlins, WY Thursday - May 9, 2013 Much cooler this morning. I didn't set up the weather suite last night but the overnight low was far above the freezing mark. Shortly we will pack up and head further northeast to Lusk, WY. Our route will be along Hwy 287 to Casper, WY then a short distance east on I-25 to the Jct. of Hwy 18. This route will cover a distance of approximately 220 miles. We traveled along some of this route last spring and last fall, so I'm looking forward to another scenic day. This route also...

May 8, 2013 - Leg #4
/// Western Hills Campground Rawlins, WY May 8, 2013 We departed Springville, UT by 8:00 AM this morning on the fourth leg of our journey to the Black Hills of South Dakota. Today's route took us through Provo on US 189 and Provo Canyon to Heber City. We've not taken this route before and I found it to be a much better route than through Salt Lake City on the Interstate Highway. The Heber City region is especially scenic. I took note of at least three new observations on today's leg, snow fences, sheep ranches and lots of road killed...

May 4, 2013 - Moving Right Along
We’ve left Colorado and are now parked overnight in Rawlins, Wyoming. The winds are howling but we are safely parked for the day. We’ll leave here tomorrow and head for Thermopolis. This is the second time we stayed at this campground in Rawlins; the first time was four years ago. Sorry to say that it has gone down hill and so has Rawlins. It’s going to be chilly again tonight so we decided to stay in a campground that has electricity. It was an easy drive to Rawlins on a somewhat bumpy secondary highway dotted with an occasional ranch...

Apr 26, 2013 - Final Entry for this Trip
23rd April No wolves today, a lot of rushing around and looking through scopes but to no avail. However we did watch a herd of bison chasing a big grizzly! Our bear expert Bill H estimated the bear was in the region of 450lbs. 24th April Home as the temperature showed promise for painting the deck! It has to be 46F and above. Alan shot off to Livingston to do car tax and other bits and pieces and by the time he came back it was 50F! I set to with the spring cleaning. The dogs spent all day outside in the run and loved it. 25th April Back in...

Apr 25, 2013 - Laramie to Cheyenne, WY
Last night we watched an episode of the Good Wife that we had brought along with us. We are addicted and are only on season one! I slept in my heavy sweat pants and a hooded sweat shirt just to be safe. Bob got out our portable heater so we seemed to be set for most anything. Bob’s feet were still cold so he bought 3 pairs of socks for $75!!! They had better keep him warm. The morning was cold but beautiful. My Sonoma neighbor, Mary, grew up in Casper, WY and spent 2 years at UW where she was a Tri Delt. ( I was a Tri Delt too!). Tri Delt...

Apr 24, 2013 - Heber City to Laramie, WY
Our sleep pattern is a bit goofy in that we are awake in the middle of the night for an hour or so and then fall asleep to awake after 7:00. This morning we thought we were getting up at 7:00 only to find out it was after 8:00! Last night was not as cold. Had a great stay with the Kwellers and we will be back in June for a night. Headed out about 9:30. We are driving across Wyoming on Dwight Eisenhower Highway (Route 80)much of which we had done when we went to Yellowstone etc. a few years ago. This will be a book on tape ride. Some...

Apr 22, 2013 - oh yes, we departed alright!
4/19-4/22/2013 TX to WO We took off under beautiful blue skies, several hours late but, before noon, so we in the Boase family consider that a huge success. Our boys will understand that we pulled out without going back for anything…shocking! The first stop we made was this momma’s kitchen table eatin (cracker barrel) in Denton for lunch then hauled our full tummies to Wichita Falls. We stopped for gas and so happy we did as I was able to point out that dads truck sure was leaning to the side bad. Luckily momma had her powerful super duper...
