Jul 3, 2014 - Cheese tasting on the way to Wausau, WI

Late start…didn’t leave camp until 11:30 am. Stopped at 2 cheese stores on the way to Wausau…Yellowstone Cheese (Colby) and Holland’s Family Cheese (Gouda). Lunched at a restaurant next to Howard Johnsons around 2 pm. Took a drive to the Dells of the Eau Claire Park where we came across another water fall…small compared with all the others we’ve seen. Then returned back to town to Wal-mart to stay the night.

Sep 19, 2013 - Across the U.P.....again

Thursday, September 19 We awoke to rain and lightning...not an auspicious beginning to the day. Fortunately Ralph had packed up most of our outdoor stuff before we went out for supper Wednesday night with Georgeann and Dave. After coffee and breakfast, he donned his raingear and headed out to battle the elements...and the various cords, etc. that are part of camping. I made a second pot of coffee and filled four travel mugs. Yes, we have to have our caffeine when we travel! The rain had ended by the time we attached the 5th wheel to the...

Jul 22, 2011 - Weekend in Wausau

I arrived at 3:30 for my weekend visit with MaryJane and John in Wausau Wi. I drove through a torrential downpour getting out of Chicago and through many construction zones after that. We caught up on news and plans and kept talking all through dinner ( I had three of MJ's wonderful brownies for desert - shame on me!) We went for a walk around a bay and then took a drive to the top of the mountain near the house. Awesome view . The bright red sun was setting but I zoomed a bit too much and it distorted the color somewhat. Tomorrow we have...

Aug 17, 2010 - Wausau, Wisconsin

We had a upgrade in our accommodations last night from a Wall Mart parking lot to a Sam's Parking lot. Didn't get a picture. Traveling from Mn to WI was all Corn fields, hundreds of acres of corn. Getting into WI it was kind of sad to see the old Dairy farms go down the tubes, and taken over by large Company's planting corn for guess what, the 10% Ethanol that is mixed with Gas for your car

Jun 20, 2010 - Wausau, Wisconsin

We arrived at the Lake Dubay Campground, in Mosinee, WI, by mid afternoon on Father's Day. The campground is right on the lake and we had a nice view of the water (from a distance) we weren't as close to the water as I would have liked, but I also wanted the full hookups and the WI-FI which was offered across the road. All in all the site was nice, we had evergreens all around, there were nice areas to walk and ride our bikes. The Lake was about a fifteen minute drive from Marne' and Kevin's home, so it was very convenient. We were...

Sep 26, 2007 - Wausau and Lake Geneva

Today we said goodbye (for a couple of days) to Torrey and Daryl and headed back down to Wausau to see another friend, Tom Jonas. Before leaving Rhinelander we stopped at Coffee Beans, an internet cafe with killer orange cranberry scones, and did some work on this infernal journal for a couple of hours . The drive to Wausau took a little over an hour and it was a nice easy ride through open farmland bordered by woods that were at the height of their color ##photo=farm near Wausau #1##. If anything the colors were richer than anything we'd...

Sep 19, 2007 - Wisconsin & Friends

WED 9-12 We set up camp in Marathon Park, a large wooded park in the middle of Wausau, WI. John met us at the park. It was so good to see him again after 30+years. It was also good to see he was still the same funny and wonderful person he was years ago. His wife Val met us after work and we went to a nice restaurant for dinner to catch up on each others lives. John has taken a few days off from his Printing business to be with us. He and Val have wined and dined up with the best hospitality possible. We went sightseeing through Wausau and...

Jul 16, 2007 - The End Of the Adventure

Wausau, WI is in north central Wisconsin and known for an abundance of wonderful fishing lakes, sprawling dairy farms, deer hunting, snowmobiling and cheese. Our oldest son lives here, and it's been great to visit with him and his two sons. Our trip of a lifetime is ending; we will spend the next month enjoying visits with our many friends and relatives in Wisconsin and Illinois. However, the Alaska trip must have an acknowleged ending, and we have chosen what we feel is activity appropriate for this. Today, Barb and I are taking the time...
