Minot, North Dakota, to Saint Paul, Minnesota This section of our journey took us from the lush, flat farmlands around Minot eastward into the equally lush but more rolling hills of Minnesota. At the campground where we stayed the first night in Jamestown, ND, the office and restaurant building looked like a fort and the wooden fences were painted to look like windows and doors into a tavern and other businesses. From Des Moines, we returned to US-20 heading east and spent a couple nights beside the Mississippi River at Miller Riverview Park in Dubuque, Iowa. We were actually on an island in the river and had a very nice view of the US-61 bridge over it. We watched several barges go by, pushed up and down the river by tugs. But just past sunset, there was a weird yellowish cast to the cloudy sky, and a huge black cloud was approaching us from the northeast.
