We brought four of the grandkids to Somerset, Wisconsin last year for a couple of days on the Apple River, and had a great time. A couple of months ago, I got an email offering a "Groupon Deal", two nights of camping, with one day of tubing, for less than $30. So, on Monday I disconnected the electric, cranked-down the tv antenna, drained the holding tanks, hooked up the Chevy Tracker, and Hazel and I took off for the Twin Cities to pickup the kids. Aug 19, 2011 - They didn't say there were rapids.

No photos of our trip down the Apple River yesterday, I need to get an underwater digital camera, a cheap one in case I lose it, for our trip back here next year. I should be healed up by then. After renting our innertubes and donning life jackets, we all got in the river, and almost immediately we were sweeping downstream. Much of the river is about 3 feet deep, but there are spots (as I discovered once when I got out of my tube) that are closer to 6 feet. Somerset, Wisconsin is a town with a unique industry, tubing on the Apple River. My friend Steve Weaver says there is a law against to rent any kind of an inflatable device in his state of West Virginia, somebody must have gone under witn a 99ยข air mattress. If such legislation was ever introduced in Wisconsin, there would be a revolution. Tubing on the Apple River is a rite of passage, with weekend hordes of teens and barely legal adults from the Twin Cities heading this way on weekends, to camp in tents, drink beer, mess around, and float...

today we drove to leo and bunny's friends, Sandy and Lisa. tony and i parked in their yard with an extension cord, leo parked in the neighbors yard and had to use the generator. the house was on the river, it was beautiful. we had dinner then took a ride on the pontoon boat and went fishing, a few fish were caught but no keepers. after fishing, the neighbors who also went fishing with us, made a huge bonfire. the day was a little cool, but with sweatshirts it was fine. it was fun, they were very nice.
