Jul 29, 2015 - Sheboygan to Plymouth ~ 17.4 mi

Ride Time ~ 1:48:03 Average ~ 9.6 mph Today was a great day. We knew winds were expected to reach 15mph out of the west by about 1:00pm. We were headed west. So we decided to be up and loaded and out the door at the Quality Inn, Sheboygan by 7:00am. It was cloud covered and a slight west wind of about 8mph. Very nice riding along Old Plank Trail Road which follows along Hwy 23. The highway noise was very loud so we decided to wear our earplugs. Generally, for safety, we try not to wear earplugs on a normal road because we like to hear the...

Jul 17, 2015 - Kohler factory tour

Today we took the 3 hour tour of the Kohler factory and it was so interesting. We saw urinals being unpacked from molds - all by hand. We saw toilets being fired in the kiln, witnessed the iron being poured into molds to make bathtubs and then saw the enamel being sprayed and then fired onto shower pans. The plant is housed in brick buildings built in the 1917's and there are some robots at work but many of the positions are still being done by people. Our guide worked 44 years in the grinding section and has been doing tours for 16 years -...

Jul 16, 2015 - Kettle Moraine drive

I drove into Elkhart Lake to check out the Road America track this morning. Many people were registering and I could hear and see cars on the track practicing. The cost would be $25 for this early practice day and we opted not to deal with it. On Friday and Saturday night there is a procession of cars that leaves from the track and goes into Elkhart Lake, would be fun except all the streets are blocked off and it will be a traffic nightmare. I elected to check out the visitors center and the Library. This is a neat little town with a...

Jul 15, 2015 - USS Badger

This was fun. Ray had to get up early as we needed to be at the ferry terminal at 7:45 AM! The drug sniffing dog found something interesting in one of the bins and Ray had to get out and open it up for inspection. Apparently he noticed WD 40 and other chemicals but we "passed". The car was left in the loading lane and we were able to ride into the hold in the Eagle that was backed up by a ferry employee. Then we had to exit and leave Obie and Reggie in the Eagle alone for their cruise across the lake. The ferry is 410' long and is the only...

May 9, 2010 - Plymouth, WI Days 2 and 3

It rained on and off all day yesterday, so we drove to some of the neighboring towns to explore them, and took in a movie (the only one in our timeslot was “The Runaways”). We also had a decent pot roast dinner at Culvers, and had stopped earlier in the day at a nearby garden center (I’m always looking for kinetic art or copper), where I spotted the bears in the pictures. I saw one up in Missoula once – it was a large (at least 5 ft) black beast that hung over the side of the roof eve to greet visitors to the front door. I was obsessed with...

May 7, 2010 - Plymouth,WI

Sorry for the lack of pictures the last few days. We spent our one day in Portage walking along Main Street, doing chores and getting groceries. While I complained about the cold in the morning, the weather cleared after lunch, and we had a rare warm, dry, windless afternoon. I see the weather in Denver has also been wet and cold. We have moved NE to Plymouth, WI. We are about 10 miles east of Sheboygan and Lake Michigan. Our goal is to find a nice resort on the peninsula, but most of them don't open for the season for about a week. We are...
