Jul 15, 2010 - Green Bay, WI

July 15th, Thurs. De Pere, Wisc (south of Green Bay) Warning! This will be a long one…. Seems like much more than a week that we were in Milw. Saw so many people from different families, cities & groups. Keep in mind high humidity at all times! Showering is a total waste of time! I could have used at least 2 a day! Thurs.7/8 - The morning after we arrived we planned to go to the Independent Living Apartments (Chudnow Campus) of the Jewish Home to visit some of Allan’s elderly 1st cousins. Before we had a chance to leave we received a phone...

Jun 11, 2010 - Lena/Green Bay, WI

Tuesday, June 9, we arrived in Lena (Green Bay), Wisconsin to visit Tom’s brother and wife, Kenny and Judi. Their house is situated in the country in the most picturesque setting that you can imagine. In front of their house is a huge pond with hundreds of fish: walleye, perch, bass, croppy, frogs and even cat fish. Their house is set back behind that amidst trees and flowers and you think you are at a small resort on vacation. The front of the house has a sun room with windows all around and the view of the pond and surrounding grounds...

We have shared much of the beauty we saw through the pictures in this travel journal. We've also described some of the problems we encountered as well as some of the humorous events we experiences. We'd like to share a few people we met along the...

Aug 1, 2008 - Green Bay Packers

Camp Scholler-EAA Airventure-Oshkosh, WI Our major activity today was a drive up to Green Bay to tour the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame. I forgot to take my camera...Duh! It was an exciting thing for me, since I lived in Wisconsin and was a devout Packers fan in the early 60's during the Vince Lombardi era. The history of the Packers is presented, from the early days of the Acme Meat Packing company team to the present. There is an entire section of the Hall devoted to Vince Lombardi to remind us what an outstanding individual he was, in...

Jun 20, 2008 - Still in the RAIN

Hi all! It stopped raining for a day or two, so we got out of Green Bay and headed for family in Penn stopping for a couple days near Starved Rock State Park,IL to hike the waterfalls. Back on the road, our route led us to Canton, OH right by the Pro Football Hall of Fame, where we found a picture of Gayle's brother Chuck from his pro days. Arriving in Montrose, Penn we visited with The LaBonte's (Gayle's sister) at her 1820's farm house & barn (see caption under picture). Off to upstate New York, Rome where Gayle found her old house and...

May 4, 2008 - The Circle

Hi Everyone, Well as you can see by the map on our site, we have closed the circle and are now back in Green Bay for a few days. We had a nice dinner with Angel's folks and her brother Jack and after a few days here, one, perhaps both of us will head back up to Toivola. We had left Angel's van here in Green Bay so she is considering staying on for a bit to take care of some things here in Green Bay, giving some massages and visiting with family. I have far too much to do up North to stay here so will go up and get eh water back on in the RV...

Dec 27, 2007 - Packing time

Hello Everyone, Hope you all had a great Christmas. We spent the holiday with Angel's VERY large family at her folks place and had a great dinner and lots of visiting. Coming from my house where I was the only one at home and no neighbors to house full of people is an interesting experiment in human interaction. I needed to find a little space for a short time but once I regained my balance, was back in with the group. We are packing up and trying to wrap up all sorts of loose ends before we take off next Wednesday. It seems like every time...

Dec 24, 2007 - Merry Christmas!

Hi Everyone, Mother Nature threw a little hissy fit yesterday and the winds howled and the snow blew but today all is returning to normal. It was getting to look a little scarey for leaving on our trip on the 2nd but today looks better. We took Shelby and Silas out to see the Llamas and Alpacas today and see how they weathered the storm. Apparently they are designed pretty well because none of the herd looked any worse for wear despite the severity of the storm. Shelby was her usual playful self and now Silas is getting more used to the...

Sep 10, 2007 - Green Bay, Wisconsin

Sorry it's been so long since we posted but things have been really hectic. But, now we are going to get the blog updated. Green Bay sits along Lake Michigan and everywhere is PACKER COUNTRY. These folks love their NFL football team. For you football nuts out there: On August 11, 1919 Curly Lambeau and a group of young athletes agreed to form a football team. Curly's employer, the Indian Packing Company became their sponsor until they went out of business. Of course, the highlight of my visit was Lambeau Field--home of the Green Bay Packers...

Aug 10, 2007 - Green Bay Area

We stopped in Green Bay, WI and decided to take a tour of Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers. What a wonderful tour and we were taken in one of the sky boxes, walked past the Packers locker room, walked out onto the field through the tunnel the team comes out and walked out on the field. They did a great job with the tour and I wish more teams did tours like that. After the tour, we met the President of the Green Bay Packers and he signed his book he had just written. The Packers hold their training camp right across the street...

Aug 29, 2006 - Green Bay & Acorns

We are now at a nice county park called Bayshore Campground which is located on (the) Green Bay on a peninsula right on the lake. This park compares with the NY state parks we ran across earlier this summer. The sites are spread out and there are a lot of trees. So many we couldn't find a Direct TV satellite signal. The rates are great, $15 per night for water and 30 amp electric so we plan on staying here through Labor Day weekend. This morning we learned a very important lesson - NEVER park under an Oak tree that has large acorns. At 4...
