Mar 22, 2011 - Safely Home

All good things have to come to an end, and they did. My son Claude picked me up at O’Hare instead of flying to Milwaukee. He lives near O’Hare and since my cat Jetta was in his care it made sense to pick up Jetta and drive me home. Jetta was not happy. She hates being moved and now she was quite “at home” at Claude’s. The old fish net trick helped to scoop her up and deposit her in the carrier. Once home she ran into some secluded spot and didn’t make her appearance until morning. Now we’re friends again. Airports are exhausting. It took...

Jul 5, 2009 - Elkhorn, WI

We are in Elkhorn, WI and are parked in Greg and Judy Hoffman’s yard with many Canada Geese every morning. We had an enjoyable cook out yesterday and sat on the shores of their lake and watch the fireworks last night. We went to Lake Geneva which was established in 1860. The houses on the lake shore are very large and expensive. The shore houses are two to 12 million dollars. Throughout the town they have decorated carousal horse that will be auctioned off at the end of the summer with the money going to charity. Tuesday morning we will be...

Jul 30, 2008 - Richfield, WI

Farewell Indiana30 July - Russ and I got underway a little after 7 for the Chicago Midway Airport. We met Anne (she lives in the area) for breakfast at a Greek restaurant near our destination. It was a fun time with lots of laughs. After saying goodbye to Anne, I dropped Russ off for his flight and continued on toward Mark’s in Wisconsin and spent the night at a truck stop in Richfield.

Road Trip 2008

Jul 11, 2008 - Reds vs Brewers

It seems like I have seen the Reds more than 3 times as visitors. I guess that is because I have seen them that many times since just June 28th. What a REMARKABLE field Miller Park is! It has an awesome retractable roof that fan folds from behind home plate & goes in the direction of each baseline. I was thankful that the weather cooperated tonight so the roof was open for the entire game. The only complaint I have is that there is no way one can take a photo to do its’ “bigness” justice. There were 3 construction workers killed during the...

Sep 12, 2007 - Back at our home address

Having a great time visiting with family and friends. Been busy doing things with the family. Watching the two older grandkids with their sports, baseball and Jesse plays football. Been babysitting the other three. Great to see how they have changed over the summer. Don had jury duty. It only lasted one day. He was glad!!! I had my yearly Doctor appointment. We are getting anxious to go to Fountain City to go fall hunting. (Ducks & Deer) Don got a new toy. A crossbow, so he is anxious to use it. He has been practicing.

Sep 24, 2006 - West Allis, Wisconsin, and Highwood, Illinois

In West Allis, we stayed in the RV park on the Wisconsin State Fair Park grounds. The park has all the barns, displays, food booths, etc., found in most fairgrounds. It also has the Milwaukee Mile Racetrack, one of the major tracks on several of the professional racing circuits. Over the course of a few days, we had a wonderful time visiting with Jon's two sisters (Sandra and Margaret) and their spouses. We spent several hours sitting around dining tables just catching up on each other's lives and refreshing memories of friends and family...

May 3, 2006 - Arrived in Milwaukee

Well, here we are, back where we started 2 months ago--Milwaukee, WI. I don't have anything witty or comical to write today, but I wanted to do an entry so I can update the map to show where we are. I think there are a few folks here in Milwaukee who might be interested that we're "home". I say "home", but in reality it no longer is. I lived my whole life in Milwaukee, and Fred has lived in Milwaukee for 27 years, so it was home. On the road, as we made our way from Rantoul, IL, we wondered how it would feel. In the past, when we had gone...

May 28, 2005 - Our First Trip in El Rocinante

Ray: Well, we were ready to take El Rocinante out for the Memorial Day Holiday to Meadowlark Acres Christian Fellowship Campground, Burlington, Wisconsin. This is a Christian family campground, but is not restricted to Christians only. One may smoke, but open drinking of alcohol is prohibited. This campground is about 100 miles north of Chicago and near Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. We headed out on Illinois I94 tollway on the Saturday before the Holiday. The traffic was, of course, heavy going north to Wisconsin. My wife was travelling behind in...
