Aug 28, 2014 - Fish Creek, WI

We visited Fish Creek today, this one has a wonderful beach to swim or sit and relax. Definitely one of my favorite beaches on the peninsula. Located in the heart of the northern Door peninsula, Fish Creek is home to the finest selection of accommodations, cuisine, shopping, the arts, and outdoor recreation. Downtown Fish Creek boasts an historic main street as well as attractive marinas, parks and beaches. It is located on Highway 42 along Green Bay. The first settler of Fish Creek was Increase Claflin and his family circa 1844, but the...

May 30, 2012 - Door County, Wisconsin

2012-05-30 Door County, Wisconsin We rolled out of home early this morning and headed north towards Wisconsin. We drove straight through to Door County and landed at Peninsula State Park, between Fish Creek and Ephraim, Wisconson right on the eastern shore of Green Bay of Lake Michigan. We spent two nights here in this state park and wanted to spend more time here, but we needed to get to our MMAP project site on Friday. The pictures are a sample of what we saw and did during our brief stay in this vacation wonderland called Door...

Sep 23, 2011 - Door County Fish Boil

Today we drove back into Door County-yeah-but found it much busier with weekend travelers. We stopped at several farmers markets (Peninsula Winery-bought a squeeze bottle of delicious Polish Mustard, Grandma Tommy's Country Store, the Cherry Hut, and Lautenbach's Orchard Country Winery & Market). Dan also toured the Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay ($12 admission) while I shopped in Sturgeon Bay and bought a Door County t-shirt for me and a Door County hat pin for Dan. We then shopped in Egg Harbor (voted "Best Shopping...

Sep 20, 2011 - Outdoor Door County

When we awoke and found the temperature inside the coach at 56 degrees, the furnace was turned on! Dan then tried to get connected to the internet through MobileMe and our Autonet Mobile System. Dan was first concerned about the ranging capability of the router (OK, I don't know that that means either), but he called Autonet who diagnosed the problem as a bad router (and they will be sending one to us free of charge-provided the current one is returned). As the day warmed up, I made sandwiches and we headed back to Door County to begin...

Sep 9, 2011 - Kayaking Peninsula State Park

We drove to Peninsula State Park and launched from the Nicolet Point launch area; a lovely spot with modern ramps and lots of parking. For those of you who are interested, Jean Nicolet was the first white man to explore the Door Peninsula and he and his crew explored the area by canoes so it was only fitting that we traveled by water to the various locations in the park. We paddled to Horseshoe Island, which was at one time the home of a very wealthy family but later sold to the government after the Depression. There was a beautiful two...
