Sep 1, 2014 - Sister Bay to Egg Harbor ~ 21mi

The day started cloudy and rainy and it did not look like we would get todays ride in. We drove down to Fish Creek to buy new biking shorts for Ann at Nor Door Sport & Cyclery. We then went over to the library to pick up their Internet and saw a break coming in the weather around 1:00. We made a dash back to the Church Hill Inn where we could change into our biking clothes in the spa restrooms & prepare our bikes for our ride - then came a slight drizzle. We decided to put our panniers (bags) on the rack and roll out because there was a...

We visited another awesome town in Door County today. This is quickly becoming one of our favorite places, there is so much to see and do here. The Village of Egg Harbor is a vibrant resort community located on the waters of Green Bay. Egg Harbor is a village of 250 year-round and 2,500 seasonal residents. The Village offers water recreation, walking trails, wonderful scenery, live concerts, public art, and an enchanting variety of retail shops, restaurants, and accommodations for visitors. Jul 11, 2014 - Egg Harbor - Door County, WI

Friday, July 11. Another great day, starting with seeing a cute little chipmunk right outside our camper window. We have seen several chipmunks while camping, but have never been able to get a photo of one as they run really fast, especially once Gabby has sight of them. Drove back to Fish Creek having lunch at a road-side restaurant and visiting with the owner. Her husband is the cook and they live in Fish Creek year-round with small children in school, but the restaurant is only open April through the middle of October. She said that they...

Jul 10, 2014 - Egg Harbor - Door County, WI

Thursday, July 11. Another beautiful day with sunshine and nice cool temperatures in mid-60’s to low-70’s all day, a perfect day for golf! Bill is still having coughing attacks that come on several times a day, still on prescription meds, but no fever and a real trooper. Bill didn’t think he would feel up to playing a round of golf, but was all up for riding around the beautiful scenic Peninsula State Park Golf Course as Karen played. We had stopped by the course on our scenic drive around the Peninsula State Park the day before and checked...

Jul 9, 2014 - Egg Harbor - Door County, WI

Wednesday, July 9. Door County is considered the Cape Cod of the Midwest with a peninsula dividing Green Bay and Lake Michigan. “History & Heritage of Egg Harbor is that a legendary egg battle took place in our harbor on June 23, 1825. The battle began when men among a six-boat trading flotilla began throwing hardtack at each other while approaching a spot of land. This first bout ceased due to their continuing need of the staple. The playfulness started again with eggs now the ammunition of choice. The leader tried to stop the battle, but...

Jul 8, 2014 - Drive to Egg Harbor - Door County, WI

Tuesday, July 8. Today was the longest drive of our trip, leaving the campsite in Duluth at 9:30 am and driving approximately 425 miles to Egg Harbor, WI. Karen drove, pulling the trailer, for the first time since this trip, allowing Bill to rest. Duluth and Door County was not on our lists of places to visit, until we had so many recommendations from fellow campers at Country Fest. And, once arriving, we are so glad we made the drive. Karen started calling for available campsites when we were close to Green Baby, WI and learned Peninsula...

May 28, 2013 - Egg Harbor, WI

Awoke to spitting rain and as I suspected before going to bed, I got many mosquito bites through my socks and hiking pants! I had put Cutters on my hands and face but my ankles and legs are full of them. Three miles up Hwy 42 is Peninsula State Park, established in 1909 (3776 acre park with 8 miles of Green Bay shoreline in Door County.) It is a very versatile park in that it has miles of hiking, cross country skiing and snowmobile trails, golf course, private/public cemetery, camping, beach, boating, theater, scenic overlooks etc. We hiked...

May 27, 2013 - McLain SP to Egg Harbor, WI

We were up and out of camp by 8:00. Nothing open for coffee in Hancock or Houghton which are the major towns in the area. The drive down Hwy 41/141 was very similar to all of the UP. Two lane road, long rolling hills with beech trees that looked blighted and other trees with sparse leaves and spindly trunks along the road. The forest never really looked “lush”. However, today is Memorial Day and all of the little towns had flags out on the telephone poles, yards, buildings. Very nice This scenery changed as we moved into Wisconsin where the...

Sep 5, 2012 - June--Door County WI--Egg Harbor

Egg Harbor— Two weeks of complete “Vacation mode!” From Waukesha we head north along the Lake to Green Bay, and then out the peninsula to Egg Harbor. What a gem of an area! The peninsula from Sturgeon Bay to Northport is only about 45 miles long, and from Egg Harbor to Bailey’s Harbor, 12-15 miles wide! We had a great two weeks finding spots like; Fish Creek, Sister’s Bay, Birmingham’s, Bailey’s Harbor, White Gull Inn in Fish Creek, (Jay had told us that it was Good Mornings America’s Favorite Breakfast place), Fred and Fuzzy’s, Shipwreck...

Jun 28, 2012 - Maritime Museum & Washington Island

Tuesday we took a ride down to Sturgeon Bay the county seat of Door County. We had decided to go to see the Maritime Museum there. The first floor of the museum was done in time line fashion from when the Indians were there. There was a sample of one of their canoes. It then told of the early settlers and of the shipbuilding business. There were scale models of many of the ships built there. They built several ships used in World War II. The second floor of the museum had a very large Pirate display on one side - from art work depicting...

Jun 25, 2012 - Door County, Wisconsin

We are in beautiful Door County in Wisconsin. It wasn't our best ride of the trip. We hit a detour and then got to the highway we wanted to take north and the ramp was closed due to construction, then several round abouts in OshKosh (yes, there really is an Oshkosh) and finally after stopping to ask for directions we got on I-41 North only to find 12 miles of construction - all the way to Appleton. About every 200 feet we would thump over a drain in the road - and we wonder why things jar loose. But we made it and Door County is...

Sep 8, 2011 - Door County and Al Johnson's

We planned to go kayaking today and since the peninsula is not that wide across at the northern end, we decided to go first to see if we could launch at Ephraim. It was really windy and rough so, we headed across to the east coast of the peninsula to Bailey’s Harbor and Kangaroo Lake. It was really rough and windy there too. Apparently, the north wind was making both sides of the island inhospitable for kayaking so we came back to the RV park and had lunch. I then took Dixie for a long walk in Peninsula State Park, a really really nice...
