Sep 5, 2012 - June--Door County WI--Egg Harbor
Egg Harbor— Two weeks of complete “Vacation mode!” From Waukesha we head north along the Lake to Green Bay, and then out the peninsula to Egg Harbor. What a gem of an area! The peninsula from Sturgeon Bay to Northport is only about 45 miles long, and from Egg Harbor to Bailey’s Harbor, 12-15 miles wide! We had a great two weeks finding spots like; Fish Creek, Sister’s Bay, Birmingham’s, Bailey’s Harbor, White Gull Inn in Fish Creek, (Jay had told us that it was Good Mornings America’s Favorite Breakfast place), Fred and Fuzzy’s, Shipwreck...

Jun 28, 2012 - Maritime Museum & Washington Island
Tuesday we took a ride down to Sturgeon Bay the county seat of Door County. We had decided to go to see the Maritime Museum there. The first floor of the museum was done in time line fashion from when the Indians were there. There was a sample of one of their canoes. It then told of the early settlers and of the shipbuilding business. There were scale models of many of the ships built there. They built several ships used in World War II. The second floor of the museum had a very large Pirate display on one side - from art work depicting...

Jun 25, 2012 - Door County, Wisconsin
We are in beautiful Door County in Wisconsin. It wasn't our best ride of the trip. We hit a detour and then got to the highway we wanted to take north and the ramp was closed due to construction, then several round abouts in OshKosh (yes, there really is an Oshkosh) and finally after stopping to ask for directions we got on I-41 North only to find 12 miles of construction - all the way to Appleton. About every 200 feet we would thump over a drain in the road - and we wonder why things jar loose. But we made it and Door County is...

Sep 8, 2011 - Door County and Al Johnson's
We planned to go kayaking today and since the peninsula is not that wide across at the northern end, we decided to go first to see if we could launch at Ephraim. It was really windy and rough so, we headed across to the east coast of the peninsula to Bailey’s Harbor and Kangaroo Lake. It was really rough and windy there too. Apparently, the north wind was making both sides of the island inhospitable for kayaking so we came back to the RV park and had lunch. I then took Dixie for a long walk in Peninsula State Park, a really really nice...

Sep 7, 2011 - Visit with Williams and Door County, Wisconsin
September 6-8, 2011 Note to self….always bring slip on winter shoes no matter what time of year it is. The heater was on all night last night and when we got up it was about 50 degrees although the wind has died down somewhat. It is still gray and cold though. It is a hassle going in and out of the coach to clean up without slip on/off shoes. You don’t want to keep having to take off the sneakers or hiking boots but you don’t want to keep dragging sand and gravel into the coach especially after vacumning, so, I’m in my turtle fur slippers....

Aug 5, 2010 - Our final night in Door County
THURSDAY, August 5 -- Our final day in Door County. Relaxing at the campground most of the day. Gloria is shopped out! We went to the pool in the early afternoon. Tom was in-and-out of the pool in about two minutes, too cold for him! Gloria fared better, she remained in the pool for over 30 minutes - her and her noodle! Lunch, and more relaxation through the afternoon. Tom cleaned the windshield on the rig preparing for the next leg of the trip. We probably will stop for one more night on the way home Friday. Assuming we make it home...

Aug 4, 2010 - Wednesday in Door County
WEDNESDAY, August 4 -- Another lazy morning - breakfast and relaxing. Drove to the Candleworks Store for a brief visit, then lunch at the Coffee and Tea Shop next door. We lunched here on our last visit too. Next, down the road a few blocks to the Door County Winery. Again, another place we've been to before. Gloria selected some Pear Wine to purchase. Down the road a bit further, we stopped in at the Dovetail Gallery/Studio. The owner had a huge collection of eggs of all types. Many different bird eggs in their natural state, and even more...

Aug 3, 2010 - Fish Creek and Baiely's Harbor
TUESDAY, August 3 -- It's going to be a warmer day today! Humidity is up and the sun is out. Sat on our patio in the late morning, then drove to Fish Creek to stroll Main Street. Of course there were lots of shops. Made several stops as we headed back to the rig -- Sweetie Pie first, for a small fresh Cherry Rhubarb Pie that we plan to eat Wednesday. Another stop at the Wood Orchard Market where we were inundated by a busload of tourists shortly after we stopped. We tasted, then bought a pint of blueberries, some cherry salsa and some...

Aug 2, 2010 - Egg Harbor, Wisconsin
MONDAY, August 2 -- Whoops! I typed and typed all of the info for this date and when I went to save it as complete the uncooperative site informs me that the link has TIMED OUT! Now all I have to do is remember what I typed earlier - frustrating! Well, again, we woke up late, breakfasted and relaxed through most of the morning. Started a load of laundry, then took off for Sturgeon Bay. It sure is convenient to be able to do laundry in our rig and not have to schlep a basket-load of stuff to a laundromat just to find that there aren't any...

Aug 1, 2010 - Door County
SUNDAY, August 1 -- On the road at 10:00 AM after a leisurely breakfast. Crossed into Wisconsin after 11:00AM and saw that Lola had problems with the highway location for a while. She seemed to drift several hundred yards away from highway US 41. I think that they built a new route and Garmin didn’t get the update added. Fortunately Kim had warned of their difficulty in the same area, so it wasn’t a big surprise. We’re now at the Door County Camping Retreat in Door County - just outside of Egg Harbor. It’s a nicely wooded campground with...

Sep 8, 2007 - Door County Wisconsin
We arrived in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin on the last week of August after spending the night at a nice park in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. It was a nostalgic stop for me. When I worked for Amoco, we had a plant in Chippewa Falls and I visited there about 13 years ago when we wanted to convince some of the people who lived there to move to Atlanta. Fond memories of my days at Amoco... Our campground is located about 12 miles north of the city of Sturgeon Bay in Door County... the little "thumb" that sticks out into Lake Michigan. The peninsula...
