Aug 6, 2012 - Eagle River, WI

We have a favorite restaurant in Eagle River. We go out for breakfast. The food is as good as we remember. We visit the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame. Ice Hockey is big in Eagle River. We see two indoor rinks. Snowmobiles are also popular in Eagle River. We spend the rest of the morning at the Laundromat. They have WIFI. John catches up. We have clean clothes again. We rest up in the afternoon. John did not get a good night’s rest. Unbelievably, he was cold. I guess we better close the windows and plug in the heater tonight. Campground: KOA...

Our RV Park is perfect for overnight. It has hot showers, great WIFI and is inexpensive. There is a breakfast place a few blocks away. The couple parked next to us are on the road for longer than we are. This is unusual. We did not use the air conditioner last night. We both comment that it is a little chilly in the morning. I put the heater on for a few minutes. It is great to be up north. We travel on Route 8 today. It is an okay road. It takes us across the state. We check into the campground we stayed at in 2010. It is a beautiful...

Aug 15, 2011 - Eagle River Wisconsin Snow Machine Capital of the World

August 15 2011 Eagle River Wisconsin We have friends that we met in Texas,Jerry and Jill, and they live in Three Lakes Wisconsin, which is about 10 miles from here. We plan to move over to their area and stay a couple of days before we move on. Today they will stop over and we will all head out to eat. When we told them our plans to attend the Rally in Madison they invited us on up. Jill said they were just north of Madisom. Those are Texas directions. Three Lakes is located about 200 miles north of Madison. That's okay as we are really...

It is our last day in Eagle River. We need to get out on the water and there is a boat available at the campground. We will take it! We head out the channel to Cranberry Lake. Every channel marker has a gull. John laughs as I take their picture. Gulls are a nuisance at home. Here they are picturesque. John still wants to catch a musky but I guess he has not made those ten-thousand casts yet. He catches a rock bass. At least it makes the rod bend. I watch an eagle fly. The loons are making a lot of noise. There are dragonflies everywhere. A...

I admit we sleep late. We are not used to staying out after dark. It is after 7:00 when we wake up. We are obviously both morning people. Today we look for a boat rental. To our chagrin, there is none available. We go from marina to marina but we have no luck. It is probably a good thing. It is warm today. It may reach eighty. An evening trip would be better. We stop at the municipal park. It is okay but not great. We stop at The Wayside outside of town where we launched the boat last night. This is a better spot but John does not catch a...

Aug 2, 2010 - Eagle River, WI

It is a rainy morning. We need to take care of some “housekeeping.” We stop at the pharmacy to get a prescription filled. We head south to Rhinelander to shop at Wal-Mart. Back in Eagle River, we stop at the visitor center. We get information on fishing guides. The visitor center host is a fishing person. We tell her John wants to catch a musky. “Ah, the fish of ten-thousand casts!” Everyone tells us the same thing. “You can catch a musky. They are around but . . . .” We call the guide, Musky Matt. He can take John fishing from five to...

Every morning, John and I head into town. Every morning, two blocks from the campground there are turkeys on the side of the road. Every morning, John stops. Every morning, I am not ready with my camera. Sorry, there are no turkey pictures. We travel south and then east today. Route 70 is a good road and scenic. It travels through the Chequamegon Forest. There are many places for John to fish. He would like to catch a Muskie but most people say they catch them by accident while fishing for something else. At one of the rivers, an eagle...

Jul 19, 2010 - Travel to Eagle River, WI

July 19 – Travel to Eagle River, WI As we traveled from Ash River, MN to Eagle River, WI, we remembered more of the information that our Voyageurs NP ranger shared with us. French Canadian Voyageurs – The desired voyageur was small so he did not take up much space on the canoe leaving more space for the bartering goods going west and beaver furs going east. He should also not be able to swim so that he would not be reckless while navigating the river rapids. The canoe men rowed at one pull on the oar per second and could row continuously...

Jul 28, 2008 - 3rd Update from Door County plus Eagle River, Wisconsin

This is our 3rd update from our stay in Door County, Wisconsin on the Door Peninsula (do you get the idea we really liked this place) and our move to Eagle River, Wisconsin. In late July our son Ward came for a brief visit. It was great to see him and he enjoyed getting out of Chicago for a few days. While Ward was with us, we returned to Peninsula State Park and climbed again to the top of the tall wooden tower overlooking Green Bay. It is a great view but, knowing the tower was built in the 1930's, I was not too thrilled with the swaying...

Jun 15, 2007 - Chain-O-Lakes Resort Park and Campground, Eagle River WI, Elev 1550 ft

We don't have an Internet connection here because you can't see the satellite for the trees. We're here only for one night then off to Wisconsin Dell WI tomorrow. This area is called the North Woods. Wow, is it beautiful here. Many lakes and many boaters. It seem like we're quite a ways from anywhere here. A very popular place.
