Sep 4, 2014 - Dodgeville, WI - Tom's Campground

Our trip from Stevens Point to Dodgeville, WI was 163 miles of pretty good road (mostly Interstate 39) except for about 15 miles just south of Madison, the capital of Wisconsin, where they have the road under heavy construction. The countryside became more and more agricultural with lots of cornfields and dairies. They are much smaller than we are used to seeing, looking to be only 40-50 acres though they may be much larger in reality. We are staying at Tom's Campground a few miles east of Dodgeville, WI. We have what is designed as a small...

May 26, 2014 - Dodgeville, WI - Honoring Our Heros & House On The Rock

(Ron Writing) This morning we paid our respects to our county’s heros at the Dodgeville, WI Memorial Day parade and ceremony at the Veterans Memorial. We hope everyone took time today to remember the great sacrifices so many of our countrymen have made to secure and maintain our freedom. After the memorial ceremony we drove a few miles north of Dodgeville to tour the House On The Rock. We were amazed at what we found. The place is huge, eclectic to the extreme, very interesting, and almost impossible for me to describe. Alex Jorden designed...

May 25, 2014 - Dodgeville, WI - Scenic Drive Along the Wisconsin River

(Ron Writing) We had a nice relaxing morning and “went to our church” in Wickenburg by watching an online video of a prior week’s sermon. We are blessed to have two church families; one in California where we used to live and one in Arizona where we spend our winters. Our fellowship group in California sends us CD audio recordings of Pastor Glenn’s excellent lessons so we get to hear them also. Before leaving Prairie du Chien we stopped by the Cabela’s store to purchase a couple items and then headed east on WI-60. Highway 60 is another...

Aug 14, 2011 - Dodgeville, Wisconsin

8/14 Only 55 miles to our next stop at a Wal-Mart parking lot in Dodgeville, Wisconsin (US12). We stopped there to visit Little Norway. Little Norway is a farm whose cabins date back to 1856. The cabins are well preserved and contain hundreds of Norwegian antiques. We got an interesting tour of the farm, which also includes the Norway Building. This building, made in Norway for display at the Chicago 1893 Columbian Exposition, is an example of a Stavkirke (a Norwegian Christian Church).

Sep 19, 2010 - House on the Rocks

We arrived at Tom's Campground in Dodgeville, WI on Friday night about 6pm CDT. The campground is very hilly and the bathroom is less than desirable. But we are parked and the satellite works. We are close to the bathroom... which has cement floors. There are 2 showers. They are regular shower stalls like you would have in your bathroom at home. The changing area is divided by shower curtains which is OK, there are 2 hooks on the wall next to shower1 where the coin machine is that makes the shower work and a plastic lawn chair to set your...
