Jul 20, 2018 - Traveling

Fri July 20, We leave Christmas around 8:30 this morning heading for Wisc. We’re about 15 miles from our destination and my leveling jacks on the RV indicate one of them is not in the travel mode. We stop an try to see what’s going on, and the sensor goes quite. We get to our campsite and now the leveling jacks won’t operate. Another problem for the RV repair service. Tomorrow we’ll be at Sandi’s

Little to report. It is a restful and productive day. I catch up on paperwork. John and I discuss our future travel choices. There will be lots to investigate when we get home. John talks with many at home. We get advice and offers for help. Tomorrow we take the ferry. After the ferry, we have a route. We will take it easy and stop as needed. We will manage.

It is sad to say but we are headed home. I always joke that I do not know who will wear out first: The RV, John or me. It appears to be the RV. We have done everything we can to keep her happy but we appear to have an engine problem. When diagnosed, we knew we had no choice but to head home. The RV runs great for a little over an hour. Right at the campground she overheats. This is with the new fan. She is losing fluids. She should get us home. We will stop before she heats up and put coolant in. We can take our time. We are not giving up...

It is a day when we need patience. We call our local mobile mechanic. Turns out, he only works on the interiors of RV’s. We inform the campground office for their future reference. We call Good Sam’s. At first they want to tow us. No. We want a mobile mechanic. Our agent finds us one and tells us that we will receive a text with their ETA. We receive no text. At first I am going to call Good Sam’s back. Since we are safely in a campground, we decide to wait. We can’t expect everyone to drop everything for us. Our patience finally wears out....

Like many of our travel days, there are two tales to tell. 1. We cross Lake Michigan: We are up early. We prepare ourselves and the RV to cross Lake Michigan on the S.S. Badger. It is exciting to arrive and check-in. It is exciting to watch the vehicles being backed on the ship. It is exciting as we leave Ludington. It is exciting as we arrive in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. In the middle of the departure and arrival, there is a lot of lake. It is a great experience. It is hard to imagine how big the great lakes are. But, the trip takes four...

Jun 20, 2008 - Bay Beach Park ... Green Bay

Our first day in town we "hit the road" with Tom, Sarah and Kirsten to enjoy Bay Beach Park in Green Bay. They have an amusement park there, which you can see we enjoyed ... as well as a nature/wildlife center that we visited as well. Lots of fun things to do in this area of Wisconsin, besides the Packer Mania that is always present.

Aug 10, 2007 - Stinky

This campground thing I thought would be an adventure and indeed that's been the case. The last three nights have been case in points. Tonight we're at Apple Creek Campground in De Pere, Wisconsin. It was rated pretty well in our Trailer Life Directory and on first appearance looked like a cute, "small town" kind of place. The lady who checked us in was friendly and told me the sight was one of the few that had a "dump station" right at the campsite. For those of you who don't know (and I didn't until I bought one of these RV things),...
