Dec 3, 2019 - Happy Thanksgiving

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving! We spent five nights in Las Vegas - Sunday through Friday. We were there to meet our daughter Lisa and her husband Bob. They came up from San Diego Wednesday night. It was a short visit but we had a blast. Three hours and fifteen minutes spent at the Bellagio buffet was definitely a great feast. Ann and Lisa called it grazing. For me... I just feast. Our get away from the remodel was a welcome break. Good news... our house has sold on Monday December 2nd. Big load off our shoulders. We will move out on January...

Nov 15, 2019 - Cabinets Have Arrived!

Exciting week for us when the kitchen cabinets arrived Wednesday. The install began that day and more was completed on Thursday along with the master bath vanities and the lower entertainment center. It’s a nice step forward even though it may be another week or two for them to be completed. This allows counter top installer to come in and do their laser layout. It also makes it available now for the plumber to come in to finish his lines under the bath vanities. I’m finally nearing the end of the baseboard trim install. I’ve finished the...

Nov 9, 2019 - Two months in

Friday, Nov. 7th, marked the two month period since our start date on the renovation. We’ve accomplished a lot in that time and it feels good to see final touches coming to an end. The kitchen cabinets would be the last major project and should be installed soon. I’ve continued the baseboard install. The sunroom took quite a bit of time with all the angles that needed caulking. It did turn out very nice and pretty sure we will spend a lot of time there in the future. Ann has been working on the stained pillars, fireplace surrounds and half...

Nov 5, 2019 - Quick Update

A quick update as Ann and I keep plugging along. Ann continues to add her touches on the fireplace surrounds, the wood on the half wall by basement steps, and the pillars that lead from dinning room to sunroom. I continue laying the baseboard trim. Ann has also been helping to keep up on painting baseboard - a lot of linear feet of it. After I nail it on it gets caulked along the top, ends, and nail holes and then a light cover paint to finish. Word has it our kitchen cabinets may be finished next week... we were surprised to hear that so...

Nov 1, 2019 - Winter wonderland :(

Yikes! On Tuesday we woke to a cotton pickin’ winter wonderland. 4” of the dang white stuff and it’s still October. It’s pretty and all but October! Didn’t really need to shovel the stuff as it melted fast and a good thing too... I have no idea where the shovels are buried in the storage unit. And then on Thursday another 2”. Sheepishly I had to ask my neighbor for one of my shovels back I gave him as we will have little need for more than one. Snow removal is included in the association fee ;) As I had mentioned earlier, there will be a...

Oct 26, 2019 - Flooring in

Friday, Joe V was in very early to finish grouting the foyer, hallway, pantry, and laundry room. He also finished laying all the kitchen LVT and the remaining LVP. He and I also hung the interior doors. Ann has finished painting the porch door and the foyer entry door. I started painting the baseboard and was able to put in the laundry room baseboard so they could get the washer and dryer in... first room done! May be a bit of a lull while we wait for kitchen cabinets to be completed and the bath shower tile. In the meantime we continue to...

Oct 21, 2019 - Flooring moving along nicely

We’ve been very busy these past few days so it’s time to do a little catch up on the journal. We’ve spent some time out and about shopping for bath faucets, sinks, and catching up finalizing our kitchen cabinets. We met with Brittany, our kitchen designer, last Thursday evening to go over everything and give the go ahead. It should be about five weeks to see the finished product. Contractor Joe V has been hard at work laying our flooring. (Just an FYI... when I mention LVP that would be Luxury Vinyl Planking which is a wood floor look. When...

Oct 16, 2019 - Inch by inch

The last couple of days seemed slow going as we continued painting the walls in the dining area, great room, foyer, and staircase. I’ve also painted the ProPlaster Paint to all the drywall plaster now that it has dried. That needs to be painted first before final paint color is rolled. Now that the drywall finishers are packed up and out Joe V finished laying the IronPly subfloor and the flooring has begun in the craft room as we were leaving. So the whole area has cleaned up nicely. Hats off to Robin and his son Tony who had done the...

Oct 11, 2019 - Away two days

We were away for a couple of days as the drywall finishers, electrician, and the tile guy came in and out doing there thing. We just wanted to stay out of the way. There is a bedroom in the lower level that for some reason never had a closet put in. So we had a little closet framed in and should be finished Monday. Today we were out shopping for appliances and finishing up our decisions on the tile for the master bath shower and the surround for the two fireplaces. So for the past couple of days a lot happened and tomorrow we should be back...

Oct 8, 2019 - Master bath gutted

We stayed away over the weekend while a lot of work was done in the demo of the master bathroom. The break was nice as we’ve been hard at it for some time. The modular shower was removed and ready for new wallboard. The plummer ran the new shower head lines to the the heights we prefer, there will be two shower heads that can be ran separate or both at the same time. The old sinks were removed as well as the old cabinets. We are in the design stage for new cabinets and will be shopping for new sinks, granite, and faucets. Monday and today...

Oct 4, 2019 - Bank of windows done painting

The last three days there is not a lot to report. We’ve been working daily on the bank of windows in the sunroom and the window in the dining room. Finally finished today. On Wednesday we met with Brittany on our kitchen layout. We should be receiving the final plans by Monday and we think we are pretty sure we are good to go. She will also layout our cabinets for the master bath and our entertainment area. We also met Mark our electrician again to lay out our kitchen area outlets and switches. Today the tile guy, Buck, stopped in to go...

Oct 1, 2019 - Flooring begins

Monday we continued working on the window painting and at night Joe V and crew came in and removed the soffits. Today we took the day off as the rainy day was perfect for the crew to come in and work. So much was accomplished today. The wall tile in the kitchen was cut out with the drywall. The pantry door was framed in. The mud room tile was removed and washer and dryer taken out. The old entertainment center was taken out and junked. They framed in the open shelf area in the foyer area and also in the kitchen area above the wall that had...
