May 10, 2017 - The Greenbrier-Day 2

Another good day with improved weather. Rain was forecast but didn't develop. We spent the day exploring the resort and doing another walking tour to learn more about the history of the Greenbrier. We enjoyed their amazing breakfast buffet this morning. We stopped to get Sharon a Diet Coke at the bar in the casino. Our bartender, James, lost everything in last year's flood. He showed us pictures and told us stories of the horrific flood. Local residents are still rebuilding and recovering. He told us stories of amazing rescues and some of...

May 9, 2017 - The Greenbrier

After a 1-1/2 hour drive we arrived at the Greenbrier in time to check in and join the 10:30 outdoor walking tour. It was windy and cold (50 degrees) but Bob Conte is such an interesting tour guide that we barely noticed. After the tour we had lunch at Sam Snead's, overlooking the 18th green. The course was completely wiped out during the flood last June when we were here. The 2016 PGA Tournament had to be cancelled but the work will be completed for this year's event over July 4th weekend. More rain forecast for tomorrow but warmer...

In addition to the main hotel, they have private individual accommodations for families. During...

Historic US 2009

Aug 16, 2009 - Does "Deliverance" mean anything to you?

We left Chesapeake on Sunday. We had a great time with Conor and of course his mother and dad. We stayed one more day so we could BBQ and goof off with them. If I had my way we would have packed all three of them in the motor home, driven to Washington grabbed Bill and headed to Costa Rica. But it was not to be, so off to CA we headed. Our goal was to get out of Virginia and we did, just across the state line. We found a very small RV park (did I say small - about 7-8 places behind an old motel. But it looked safe so we pulled in. When I...

Con2009

Jan 8, 2008 - Covington, VA

Three days in Covington, VA visiting my mother. Our first stay at Loving Funeral Home. Pat Loving is a friend of mine and his place is only about a mile from my mother's home. I cannot get the fifth wheel trailer into my mother's subdivision because of tight turns. Temperatures are falling into the 30s.
