Oct 5, 2013 - Day 28

I can almost hear John Denver: country roads take me home to the place I belong. We decided to take a slightly more direct, but possibly longer, route home via I-79 and I-64 through West Virginia and Kentucky rather than fight the trucks on I-70 all the way. We'll pick it up soon enough in St. Louis. So far, that has turned out to be a great decision. The drive through western Maryland and then down through West Virginia was absolutely beautiful. Lots of hilly country, gorgeous fall colors in the trees, and farmland that looks like the...

New England 2013

Aug 15, 2013 - Cave City Kentucky

Yesterday we traveled from Sutton, WV to Cave City, KY. The campground, Cave City RV, is beautiful. All sites are pull thru's and perfectly level. The one thing they didn't mention in their listings or on line is the railroad that's about 300 yards from the campground and is VERY active all night. NOT a plus.

Jul 23, 2012 - Sutton, WV to Hagerstown, MD!

Dad has put enough careful time and effort into the tripjournal, so he left the last entry all to me. According to him, there wasn't really anything interesting to tell about the last day since it was so short. I beg to differ! So get ready for some random (and possibly boring) details that I feel the need to share haha. Boy was I happy to be getting out of Sutton! The breakfast at the hotel was meager and crowded. That probably contributed to our earlier start on the road. We actually left before 10am, which was basically like a miracle...

Baltimore Or Bust

Jul 21, 2012 - Mt Vernon IL to Sutton WV via Albion IL

Yesterday (Friday) was another long day. By the time we got settled in the hotel it was 9:30pm. We picked up BBQ take out from a local restaurant that turned out to be very good. Then I worked on getting the trip journal up to date, or at least up to Thursday. We got on the road today about 10:15 and headed towards Albion, less than an hour on I-64. The road off the interstate was a gravel county road for the first 8 miles until we got to an Illinois state road. I was kind of surprised that the gps routed us that way, but I guess it was...

Baltimore Or Bust

Jun 28, 2011 - Sutton, West Virginia

We traveled for about 4 hours today to our destination of Sutton, West Virginia. The roads were really smooth and the scenery was incredible. Fuel was 30 cents more a gallon in West Virginia that in Kentucky. We saw several ads for Patriot Coal company along the road. We stopped at the Flatwoods KOA which happened to be behind a hotel. The campground was nice. They had a huge amphitheatre that seated maybe three hundred or more. We had great Wi-Fi but no TV or cable. Good thing we brought all our movies. Tomorrow we head to Gettysburg, PA....

May 18, 2011 - A Day in West Virginia - Flower Photos

May 18 – Resting in Sutton, WV We had a restful day in Sutton, WV. The rain continues although we saw a fleeting speck of blue sky today. The Pyrex/Corelle outlet store was just across the street and had items on sale that met our needs and wants. : ) The Black and Decker outlet store had a few nice items too. Before the grounds crew cut off the local flora, I took several flower photos for fun. Flower photos are better on cloudy days. : ) While Kathleen used the KOA laundry facilities, I set up our repair shop. We had a Martha cart...

May 17 - A Cool and Wet Travel to Sutton, WV From Richmond, IN, we traveled in overcast, rainy and cool weather to Sutton, WV, a town in a valley in eastern West Virginia. The rain stopped long enough to set up camp. By camping in Indiana and West Virginia, we can add two more state stickers to our ‘Camped Here’ map. See photo. We warmed ourselves with tacos made over our inner, dry campfire/stove. Have a great day.

Sep 26, 2010 - Day Fifteen - Kentucky, Ohio & West Virginia.

Hi Everyone, What a really interesting and fun day we had today. We left our overnight stop of Frankfort around 9.30am and continued east through Kentucky until we once again crossed the Ohio River and this time entered the state of West Virginia. Having never been here before we didn’t really know what to expect but we where a little shocked with the genuine beauty of the place, it is very much a country feel with rolling hills covered in colors of fall that sparkle in the morning sun and then latter in the day as the mist begins to settle...

Apr 23, 2007 - Sutton, WV

April 23, 2007 We arrive in Sutton, WV. We stay at the Flatwoods RV Park. This park is located on a bunch of ridges, gulches and side hills. We drive all through the park looking for a good site. The ground is soft and we find ourselves moving downhill, site by site until we find stable ground. While here we discover another couple from Vermont. He is also a retired VT state employee. (DOT) This couple has been covering a lot of ground since hitting the road and we share a few stories. We also meet a very friendly couple from CA. We end up...
