Jul 5, 2009 - Pocahontas Mine

Our last stop in Virginia takes us 260 feet underground - Sunday, July 5 Today we checked out of the Breaks and headed for West Virginia. Our destination is a campground at Pipestem State Park, but first we want to make one last stop in Virginia at the town of Pocahontas. Pocahontas is the site of an exhibition coal mine, meaning a mine that has a museum and offers tours. 2009 Spring 2 Fall

Oct 17, 2007 - Pipestem State Park, West Virginia

In West Virginia, the colors were just beautiful. We stopped at the Pipestem State Park, which is a lovely park with many activities. The first evening, we had visitors from the area to see the Casita. Then late that same night, another Casita arrived. These people were from Florida and we had a nice visit with them about our adventures in the Casita. This park had two lodges, one you drove to and the other you had to ride the tram. Apr 20, 2007 - Rock Ridge Resort, Pipestem WV, Elev 2611 ft

We drove from Lenoir NC to Pipestem WV today. What a beautiful drive! Neither one of us have been here before. We did stop at the Welcome Center and picked up a frog carved from coal! Very interesting place. We didn't realize that we would be driving through Virginia today too. We'll be leaving here Sunday to drive to northern Virginia.

May 18, 2006 - Beckley, WV

We departed Pipestem, WV heading South on Hwy 20 to I-77 North joining I-64 West to I-77 exit 45. We stopped at Tamarack for our visits in the Beckley area including Glen Jean, Oak Hill, Fayetteville (world famous whitewater rafting area), Lansing and Mt Nebo. Beautiful scenery and rugged mountain terrain.

May 15, 2006 - Pipestem, WV

We left Asheville, NC traveling West on I-26, then East on I-81 through eastern Tennessee and western Virginia. We then headed North on I-77 at Wytheville, VA stopping at Pipestem Campground in Pipestem, WV. We are basing here for a few days while we visit Ashland, Alderson, Lewisburg, White Sulphur Springs and Dawson.
