Jun 6, 2014 - Unbelievable Friday

From Huntington/Firefox KOA – Milton, WV Remember me stating in the last post that today would be a day to relax from our long trip from Charlotte? Well it was far from that…….in fact it was a real wacky, weird, unusual Friday but would not call it relaxing by any means. Slept in a little later this morning and headed out to breakfast at a place we had seen many billboard ads for yesterday on our drive here……Tudor’s Biscuit World. Found the one located in Milton and put the address in GyPSy Jill and off we went. All good until we were...

Home Sweet RV - 2014

Jun 5, 2014 - Another State On Map Gets Sticker!

From Huntington/Firefox KOA – Milton, WV What a day!!! Should have known it would not be a nice leisurely drive when GyPSy Jill gave us a traffic delay before we could get out of the camping area……….5.4 miles down from our start was a 20 minute delay! Actually by the time we got to the area we only had to reduce our travel speed to about 8 or 8.5 miles per hour for about a 4 to 5 mile stretch of I-85. We soon saw the last of the road crew finishing up putting some kind of drying agent on the road surface and were about to open things back...

Home Sweet RV - 2014

Sep 6, 2013 - Milton, WV May - Sep 2013

We got ourselves all settled back in and got to work helping get the park ready for the big Memorial Day weekend. There was plenty to do everywhere with mowing, weed-eating, picking up trash, tree-trimming, cleaning fire pits, cleaning the interior of the office/store and re-stocking the shelves. Time to order ice cream and soda pop to start the camping season. Doesn't our lake look nice? The trampolines are a HUGE hit with kids and parents alike. Two of our college kids, Tyler and Ashley, checked out a couple of the banana bikes to make...

2013 and Beyond

Mar 31, 2013 - Milton, WV, Jan-March 2013

After all the excitement of the coach repairs we had to do during 2012, we are definitely looking forward to a much quieter 2013. And so, we have offered up a prayer to the RV Gods. The weather got MUCH colder and we worked hard to keep warm and keep our stuff from freezing. To demonstrate how cold it got here we've included one photo of the ice dam we had between the convenience center on the coach (where all water services are located) and the ground. We've also included several beautiful photos of the icicles that hang from the rocks...

2013 and Beyond

Dec 28, 2012 - Milton, WV

Well, we had another issue just in time to close out 2012. We noticed that the carpeting in the back bathroom was wet and couldn't figure out where it was coming from. We used towels to dry it as well as we could, but the wood portions at the bottom of the cabinets were becoming saturated...prime conditions for mold to set in. We tried to get an appointment to have it fixed, to no avail. So we decided to try to troubleshoot it ourselves. We determined that there was a leak from the water pipes to/from our washer/ dryer. The washer is way...

November was a busy month for us getting lots of outside work done. The owners also left for 10 days, a combination mini-vacation and KOA Convention. So we were here by ourselves to manage the campground! There is a gal who works Monday thru Friday, 9am-2pm, but we did work 10 days straight. We got so much done, the owners were very pleased when they returned. Came home from grocery shopping one afternoon and found that our freezer had stopped working! We only lost a little bit of frozen food, but it took us over a week to get the...

We started getting the park ready for its annual Spooktacular the last weekend in October; we are sold out! The park is all decorated and really looks nice. Some of the guests went all out decorating their campsites. There was trick-or-treating, in costume, through the park, voting on best decorated campsite, a "Monster Mash" (Halloween music and games), lots to do. Even though the weather had turned quite cold and a little wet, everyone had a good time. Folks were still out by their campfires! And again, by Sunday afternoon, the park was...

Oct 24, 2012 - Huntington, WV Revisited

Today’s drive took us through eastern Kentucky. This is a really pretty part of the state with I64 winding up and down the mountains and valleys. Fall colors are past their peak, but with the sun out today the colors are much brighter than yesterday when it was mostly cloudy. After crossing over to West Virginia, we stopped for lunch in Huntington. Guy Fieri has visited West Virginia a number of times and there were several DDD establishments in the Huntington area to choose from. We selected the Central City Café. It was a good choice. Sue...

We made it! And as we entered the campground, everyone in the office came out onto the front porch to welcome us back. How lovely! Got all settled in again, cleaned the inside of the coach, and headed to the store to restock. It's turned cooler, so we also bought some long johns. I think we're ready! We have the park all decorated for Halloween, Fall and Thanksgiving; doesn't it look wonderful?

Phew! The summer just seemed to fly by! The campground was really busy so we picked up extra hours. We also commenced our rounds with our new doctors. After all was said and done and the dust settled, we have both been given thumbs up! Yep, gonna live another year...lol. We were sold out for Labor Day and the park was really jumping. It was interesting to watch as the park filled up and people got all their "stuff" set up. There were kids and campfires everywhere and everyone was having a good time. It always warms our hearts to see...

We so enjoyed our visit from Bob and Elsie. We spent most evenings together just visiting and enjoying each other. On our days off we took them to some of our favorite places and a couple of new ones. Over the 4th of July, our RV park had a local group come out and play on the weekends. They are called Greathouse and are brother Jerald and sister Debra Greathouse. They are really, really good. We've been to a local restaurant, Barnyard BBQ, where they play on Thursday nights. Good music and good food! We took off one day and had lunch at...

Jul 27, 2012 - Day 10: over the mountains

After a breakfast of pancakes, we closed up camp and headed out at 10:53am. We stopped at Danville, about an hour away, to go to Walmart for some food and supplies. Then we went to Chi-fil-A for lunch. It was my first time at one. I had chicken strips and it was good. Back on the road for a long drive thru the mountains. We went on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia and stopped at Groundhog Hill, it was 3030 ft. high. We saw a bear crossing sign but didn't see any bears. It started to rain and storm. Grandpa turned on the weather radio and...
