Jun 29, 2015 - West Virigina

We arrived back at the RV park in Huntington, West Virginia where we stayed last year. . It is located next to a small airport along the Ohio River with train tracks on the other side. Trains, Planes and Boats. Unfortunately rain has not been our friend so far on this trip. We figure we have had more rain to date than we had on our entire journey last year. As a matter of fact, tonight we were under a Tornado Watch. We purchased a weather radio to bring with us and guess what? We forgot it at home. So we were really relying on the tv and...

We left Clarksville,IN about 10:00. Crossed over the Ohio River and we proceeded on E 64. What a beautiful drive thru Kentucky the road is call the Bluegrass route. Park of the it goes through the Daniel Boone National Park. Lots of big rolling hills filled with trees so thick that is all you see forever. We both said I bet this beautiful in the fall. The trees are just showing a slight hint of changing. Traffic was lite. We just drove through the state of Kentucky on to destination of West Virginia, Huntington which is just over the...

Sep 10, 2014 - West Virginia

Huntington, WV Our stop here held quite a surprise. Getting to it put us thru an ndustrial park and right away I started whining that this didn't look good. But....as soon as we passed over the railroad track and saw the park it was like WOW this is really neat. It was a small park and bordering us on one side was a train and the other side a grass air strip with the Ohio River just beyond the air strip. Dennis and I both like trains so hearing them at night was no problem. Our RV spot was situated so that it looked directly out onto the...

Jul 26, 2013 - Pit Stop in Huntington

Made a quick stop in Huntington, WV to see the campus at Marshall. Very pretty campus. Got lucky and found an open gate at the football field so Rowan had a chance to go on the field. Until the football team came marching in and I thought it might be a good idea to hit the road.

Oct 17, 2012 - Home, sweet home

We'd been watching weather forecast in West Virginia and it looked like it was going to stay nice today but turn into rain Thursday morning. Not wanting to get back home and unpack the RV in the rain we made the decision to race home without delay. We left Nashville on an overcast and humid morning. That's something that's hard to get used to: humidity. We've been dry for so long in the Southwest we took things for granted, like fast drying towels and pretty clear sinuses. Everything just seemed sort of sticky here but then we trade off...

Aug 12, 2012 - Huntington, WV - Beech Fork State Park

It was a pleasant 197 mile drive From Elkins to Beech Fork State Park, just south of Huntington, WV - at least until the last six miles which was a harrowing drive on a very narrow two-lane with very low overhanging tree limbs. Our spring-mounted radio antenna got a lot of exercise but luckily nothing was damaged, I don't think? The state park itself is very nice and big-rig friendly, at least in the 49-site full hookup area we are in. The sites are of good size and we have 50 amps and good water pressure as well. The park has over 280...

Jul 8, 2012 - On to West Virginia

It was just too HOT our last week in Kentucky so we didn’t do much but go anywhere with air conditioning or just stayed home, I think it was even too HOT for the horses, we went to the Horse Park a few times but saw very few horses outside, I hope those barns were air conditioned. On Sunday, July 1st we made the trip to Milton, WV about 140 from Lexington and arrived just in time for the Governor to declare a state of emergency for several of the counties in this area. The campground had lost power for about 12 hours on the Friday night...

May 31, 2012 - The tire saga...

Lots of luck with the tire.... 1- it was on the passenger side.. not out in the traffic.... 2 - it wasn't the Interstate... just a 4 lane with room to pull over...3 - Philip is the genius tool man who knows what to do and has the stuff to do it with! ^_^ 4 ... we were able to find the right size tire in Asheboro over the weekend... 5 - it wasn't raining! 6 - it's hard to make a huge crippling dent in an A/S.... All is well and we're back on the road ... today from WV on to Ohio and then to Indy to visit family. .. Should be at Jodi's by...

Nov 18, 2011 - Further down the Road

Drove some more. We only are driving about 200-250 miles per day because Debbie is still recovering from a Total Knee Replacement and riding is not the best for her especially long distances. So we stayed here in the local Walmart Parking Lot for the night. While driving we saw our first bit of snow for the winter.

Jun 30, 2011 - A Stop Along The Way

Good Morning Everyone: We woke up in Huntington WV to 55 degrees temprs - fantastic!! We received some questions about our nightly en route stops so I guess this is a good time to explain. Similar to travelling long distances in your car and just fining suitable hotels/ motels along your route to your destination we also look for RV Campgrounds that fit our need. As we're driving our Navigator MJ determines the distance we can travel using the GPS and our driving capabilities. She looks up available campgrounds with certain criteria. Most...

Aug 20, 2010 - Beech Fork Park

The roads in Kentucky had made us quite weary, so the wide smooth interstate in West Virginia was very welcome. I found it interesting that the highway was very high. The houses, people and surface streets below looked like ants and we were traveling in the treetops. West Virginia is really hilly. State parks are notorious for being hard to reach. In fact most were established long before the larger RVs hit the road. I didn't expect Beech Fork to be any different, but wasn't prepared for the twelve mile ride it took to reach our...

Aug 3, 2010 - Visiting Family in WV

From Home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia … Tuesday, August 3, 2010 We pulled out of our garage this morning around 10:15am. We had to make a couple of stops along the way before we got out of town. But we were soon on our way to today’s destination, Huntington, West Virginia. We had a pretty uneventful day of travel, and although very overcast, we never did see a drop of rain. We stopped in Beckley, WV and had some lunch at a Bob Evans Restaurant. We had not eaten there in a long time, and the food was very good. We arrived at...
