Jun 4, 2017 - Falling Waters RV Campground (6/1/17)

We stayed one night at Falling Waters RV Campground in site #34. It is close to Hagerstown, MD. Tim's mother and her family were from Hagerstown. His cousins still live there, so we spent the afternoon visiting with Nancy and Jimmy. We had a wonderful visit then went to dinner at Runway Café in Hagerstown. It is located at the airport. The property where the airport is now located once belonged to Tim's grandparents. The old home place and barn are no longer there, but he remembers playing in the fields around the runways. We had a great...

May 3, 2013 - 29th Infantry Division Memorial Highway

We've been traveling along US 29 since we entered Virginia. US 29 runs for 1,036 miles from the western suburbs of Baltimore to Pensacola, Florida. In Virginia it was designated as the "29th Infantry Division Memorial Highway" in 1993. It is in honor of that Army unit, which, along with the 1st Infantry Division (Big Red 1), formed the spearhead of the American infantry that landed Omaha Beach in Normandy on D-Day. Among the components of the 29th was the 116th Infantry Regiment made up of National Guardsman from Virginia. When we traveled...

Jun 3, 2012 - Falling Waters, WV

We have been camped at Falling Waters RV Park in West Virginia. Amazingly we crossed paths with John and Doris from the Florida Ramblers who were also at this campground and had a nice time catching up on all of our travels. Our friends, Larry and Sandra, were headed north from Alabama to Maine and we were headed south so we had a planned meet up with them and enjoyed visiting and having dinner together. We toured Harpers Ferry National Park where they offer a shuttle bus to the town where the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers meet. The history...

Jun 2, 2012 - Falling Waters, WV - Falling Waters Campsite

Our trip of 75 miles from Luray, VA to Falling Waters, WV was a pleasant drive through the countryside for about half of it, the other half was I-81 which was quicker but more stressful because of the traffic. We are staying at Falling Waters Campsites in a 50 amp full hookup site with a clear view to the satellite, slow Verizon and free Tengo WiFi which doesn't work far more often than it does. Hopefully the WiFi will work enough to get the pictures uploaded or it will be Sunday or Monday before I get them up. The campground is made up of...

Oct 9, 2011 - Falling Waters, West Virginia

We haven't been very faithful at keeping our journal up to date lately as we had a very busy New Jersey visit. It started as soon as we arrived when Ross' sister Betty invited us over for dinner on the day of our arrival that included Ross' brother Don and his wife Grace as well Betty's three girls Chris, Kate, Emily and Betty's boyfriend Robert and things never seemed to slow down much after that. The dinner was great and we had a great visit with everyone. Monday we visited with a friend of Ross', Nadine Vogel. She is 94 years old and she...

Apr 22, 2011 - In Connecticut for Easter and birthdays

Here I go with catch up entries again! Not having wi-fi at home is the pits. We drove up to CT for Easter weekend. Sue and Les were kind enough to put us up for the weekend. It was great to see everyone again. On Sunday Tanya put on a yummy Easter/birthday dinner for all of us. We were celebrating Dylan's 8th and Charlie's 70th birthdays.

Apr 18, 2011 - Race Weekend

This past weekend was the Sports Car Club of America's opening season race weekend at summit Point WV. My son-in-law's boss races a Mazda RX7. He didn't run this weekend due to some mechanical issues with his car. Saturday was nasty weather with the rain and wind. But we went out to the track anyway - Erinn, Brian, Charlie & I - and, of course, Al the driver. We got our weekend passes for the infield, watched one race and went to lunch. Sunday the weather was much improved. We watched most of the races, ate grilled bison burgers (thanks to...

Apr 13, 2011 - Day 3 - West Virginia

Well, here we are in our spot for 2 weeks while we visit Erinn & Brian - and make a trip up to CT with the Prius. The Falling Waters Campsite is right off I-81 almost into MD. It's a convenient location. Had a little more rain today. Now, of course, the camper & car are filthy dirty. Charlie will have something to do! Erinn came over later. She thought our new little guy is cute. Charlie stayed home to watch the Yankee game and we went to dinner. Unfortunately, Brian was working.

Nov 29, 2010 - Last days in WV

This past weekend was busy with Erinn & Brian. On Saturday, Erinn & I decorated their Christmas tree while the guys did outside chores. The tree looks awesome! At least now we have a little of the Christmas spirit! On Sunday, Erinn, Brian & I tackled some leaf removal in their back yard. After about 2 hours, we had about 1/4 of it under control. Charlie stayed home to start some of his chores to get ready for our FL trek. Erinn & I did manage to get to the outlet mall too. Then the 4 of us had a yummy dinner at Red Lobster. It was a bit sad...

Nov 26, 2010 - Falling Waters, WV

I know I labeled this as our 2011 travel journal, but I'm starting a bit early. Right now we're parked in the Falling Waters Campsite in WV. We're here because it's only about 40 minutes to Erinn & Brian in Frederick MD. We're scheduled to leave here and head south on Tuesday. Charlie's ready to go now! It's too cold for him. Hasn't gotten out of the 40's for the last couple of days. And Charlie had to disconnect our outside water hose because it's supposed to freeze for the next 3 nights. This weekend and Monday we'll be getting ready -...
