Oct 15, 2017 - Gettysburg National Military Park

We traveled thru Pennsylvania today. The farmland was rich and green. We saw a huge bridge at Harrisburg. Thought maybe traffic was a little light being Sunday. We had heavy fog for a couple hours. Light rain and then it cleared up and was about 70 degrees. Beautiful fall weather. I think I can quit worrying about hitting snow, until we head home!!! We got to the Gettysburg Military Park about noon. Timing was perfect. We were able to see the IMAX film about the battle. We also go to experience the Cyclorama. This is a 360 degree canvas...

Our trip east.

Jun 4, 2017 - Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races (5/31/17)

On our way north, we spent one night in the parking lot of Charles Town Races. Hollywood Casino is there as well as a race track. Tim was looking forward to a poker tournament. It was supposed to be at 7:00, but there was no tournament that Wednesday. Too bad. I spent several hours playing my penny slots and ended up losing only $10. Not bad for a night's entertainment. There were several other RVs in the parking lot along with some tractor trailers. We had fun and headed out the next morning.

Oct 10, 2012 - Day Five Fishersville, VA to Charles Town WV

The winners of yesterday's trivia questions: John and Joi were correct-- our first President was a graffiti artist. Amy picked Mick Jagger. I have not laughed that hard in a long time. Kudos to Skeeter and Jan for "Little Sorrel" as the name of Stonewall's horse. He is actually stuffed and mounted at VMI. But no Skeeter, he did not ride his horse to the Natural Bridge. You are probably thinking of Thomas Jefferson who actually owned the bridge for a while. We left this am at 9am under sunny skies and temp of 54. The weather was perfect all...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Aug 4, 2010 - Back Home

August 4, Wednesday: It rained pretty hard during the night, so we didn’t know what today would bring. But it stopped by the time we were ready to pack up and leave. We had planned on just driving home, but we passed the National Radio Astronomy Observatory at Green Bank and decided to find out about that. The Green Bank Telescope (GBT) is designed to capture radio waves from the universe and analyze them. It’s known as radio astronomy. I never even knew such a thing existed. They have a number of telescopes used for different things....

2010 RV Rally

Jul 17, 2010 - On the Road Again

July 17 – Saturday: We actually got on our way by 7:30 a.m. If you know Larry and me, that really is amazing. We seem to be getting better with age! Since the Joe and Laura are in the midst of converting our basement to some living space for themselves, we were a bit reluctant to go and leave them hanging. But both Joe and Laura were very kind and gracious in encouraging us to go ahead with plans we had made long before we knew they would be moving in with us. So we did. This was a travel day, and we made it to Parkersburg, WV, which is on...

Sep 17, 2008 - Home Again, Home Again, Jiggity Jog

September 17, 2008 – Wednesday: The last day of our trip. We drove from Winston-Salem home to Charles Town today with mixed emotions. The closer we got to home, the more I wanted to be there. But it was such a wonderful trip, that I also hated to see it end. We drove through the Smokies up I-81 through Virginia, crossing the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. It was good to be back in the mountains that we live in and love. They are so much different than the Rockies and the red rock cliffs and canyons of Utah. These are more comfortable...

Left Lewes, DE yesterday morning & arrived Charles Town, WV late yesterday afternoon. Had a wonderful visit with another Uncle, Eli and his wife, Yvonne. Eli is another of my father's brothers. We hadne't seen each other in almost 60 years. They provided us a wonderful dinner and a great visit. We are staying with Jim and Peggy Brown, very old friends, in Charles Town. Went to Harper's Ferry this morning and Jim and I golfed this afternoon. We plan on leaving here Tuesday morning and going to our daughter Shar in Mt. Vernon, OH on our way...
