Mar 15, 2013 - First Camping Trip in New Rig
Even though the forecast was for rain on the Washington coast, we took the new rig out to Westport for a couple of nights. It's about an hour and a half drive from home to that picturesque little town on the tip of a peninsula, not far from Aberdeen and Hoquiam. We discovered that the rig's roof doesn't leak. The first twenty-four hours we had about two inches of rain! That gave us lots of time to watch TV, read, and contemplate the state of the papal election process. Even though I'm calling this our first camping trip, it wasn't the first...

Sep 18, 2012 - Seaside
Main reason for stopping in Seaside was to see Mike's cousin. Upon getting to the store she made it quite clear that Mike was personna non gratra so we left came and came back to camp. Phoenix decided to go exploring and zipped out of the RV when I tried to close the door. She just immediately goes under the RV and finds grass to chew on. Guess I had better find her another box of grass to put inside.

Jun 14, 2012 - Grays Harbor Lighthouse
We had a nice drive today over to Westport from Hoquiam, about 25 miles. Our goal was to see Grays Harbor Lighthouse, it is Washington's tallest lighthouse at 107 feet tall. We also enjoyed visiting the small town of Westport. Westport is located on a peninsula on the south side of the entrance to Grays Harbor from the Pacific Ocean. The public Westport Marina is the largest marina on the outer coast of the United State's Pacific Northwest. The marina is home to a large commercial fishing fleet and several recreational charter fishing...

Aug 30, 2011 - Twin Harbors State Park
Overcast as we leave Quilcene , there are 7-10 people in the Hood Canal Muck at the end of Dan's road looking for clams or some other sea critters. My FRESH oysters dug by Dan were certainly a treat and now that I know how to open them I won't be afraid to buy some. We are on the scenic Olympic Peninsula Loop. It includes Olympic NP. “Three wildly different worlds in one, the Olympic Peninsula embraces misty rain forests, snow-capped summits, and rocky shores---all in a single drive. The Olympic Peninsula has both the driest and the wettest...

Apr 2, 2011 - Left Topeka to Westport Washington: American Sunset RV Resort
Left Topeka, en route to Westport Washington. Ran into a snow storm in Denver Colorado and had to spend an afternoon and overnight in Home Depot parking lot. Next day we proceed to Cheyenne WY and then west on Interstate 80. Drove in snow, freezing rain and very cold temps all across Wyoming and into Utah. We spent 5 days in Salt Lake City visiting John and Ruth Schnelle. A great time with them. We arrived in Westport Washington on April 12th. A week later we began a Workamper position at American Sunset RV Resort. A beautiful park with...

Westport is located on the Point Chehalis peninsula at the mouth of Grays Harbour. Westport has the largest fish landing port on the continental U.S. West Coast. Near the main harbour was the Westport Maritime Museum which is housed in the old U.S. Coast Guard. The building was completed in 1940 and had 18 rooms across three stories including a watchtower. The museum had exhibits on the coast guard and local history including the local logging, cranberry and old whaling industry. The museum also had the Destruction Island Lighthouse...

Oct 9, 2009 - A new record
. I know I told y’all last night that our move today was only six miles…I took the long way, and it ended up at nine miles instead. Regardless, it was a new record minimum mileage move. I didn’t even need a nap after setting up. ☺ The spectacular SW Washington coast weather continued today with bright blue sunny skies from sunup to sunset and warm enough temperatures for short sleeves for a brief time. It doesn’t look like our luck will continue much longer…a rain system is due Monday night and Tuesday if the government forecast can be...

Aug 18, 2009 - Westport, WA
Today we moved out to the coastal town of Westport and the American Sunset RV Park. The trip was very short at about 25 miles. Our last day trip from Hoquiam was to the coast and back to the location of the Green River Tavern, Copalis Beach. We drove the short road west from the tavern and parked on the roadside. It took a half-mile walk through the dunes and a campground and over a pedestrian bridge to get to the beach. The weather was pretty abysmal with cool temps, clouds, and a strong breeze. We hiked on down the beach about a mile and...

Jul 22, 2009 - Westport & Grays Harbor Light Station.
On July 22nd, we took a drive to the Town Of Westport. There are the usual little gift shops, plenty of places to eat, & one can get fresh fish off the docks. We had lunch at The Half Moon Bay restaurant where we both had the fish & chips (it was very good). On our way back to the truck to leave town, we strolled next to the docks, looking down at the water we saw several jellyfish, which Pete had to take photos of....he did a pretty good job. INFO FROM PAMPHLET: Westport, WA. is located at the mouth of Grays Harbor on the southernmost...

Decided to stay a few days here in Wesport, WA, - the home of Granny Hazel's Candy & Gift Store, a sure fire must stop in Washington (Lou Burrell is the Proprietor). Staying in "American Sunset RV Park", and lo and behold our neighbors are residents of Arizona Traditions, back in AZ!. Shared a few stories about golf clubs in Arizona, and the nightmares of developer transitions .... Found yet another Quilt store for Sue to explore .... she said it was worthwhile (I think for the proprietors) Lou has been an incredible host/travel guide. His...

Jul 26, 2007 - Still in Westport--enjoying the lighthouse, barbqing some salmon
July 26-We are in Westport, WA. We are about as far West as you can get in mainland continental America before you fall into the Pacific. This is a good week for us--nothing really scheduled until next Friday. We are just going along, doing what we feel like. We took a bike ride this morning to the Maritime Museum in Westport where life in the Coast Guard station helping fisherman and mariners was depicted. They also had a Fesnel first order lens from the Destruction Point Lighthouse. The lighthouse itself was de-commissioned, but the...
