Checkout time at the campground was noon, so we got up earlier than usual and drove east on I84 to the Bonneville Dam. The Columbia River was once wild and dangerous, flooding fields and washing away homes and lives. A series of dams now control the river and generate electricity. Bonneville is one of those dams. The demand for electricity continues to increase, and in the 1990's a second power house was built at the Bonneville Dam that included new longer locks.
