Aug 23, 2011 - Maybe it's Nebraska
We travelled further west yesterday and we thought we were back in Nebraska. Corn and wheat fields filled the plains area of Washington. It was a stark contrast to what we came from and where we will end up just north of Seattle. Hot and dry. All the fields needed irrigation. Temps in the mid 90's. We made one stop in Connell WA and it was important. We got our mail hooray! On our way to our overnight stop in Vantage we travelled along the Columbia River through apple orchards. Left this morning about 9:30am heading to meet our neighbors from Sun City in Vantage, WA at 11:30am. we followed the highway toward Hanford Reservation US Department of Energy. We got to taste Brazilian, Mexican, and Sumatran coffees. No photos were allowed in this wonderful and very educational exhibit. This is what we learned -- A popular legend says that coffee was discovered by an Ethiopian goat herder, Kaldi. He noticed that his animals...

The Wild Horses Monument at Wanapum Vista Overlook on Interstate 90. These beautiful and surprisingly lifelike sculptures -- sixteen horses in all -- stand on a bluff overlooking the Columbia River near the town of Vantage in central Washington. If you aren't expecting them, their silhouettes will have you believing you're looking at a real herd thundering up the ridgeline.
