Jun 13, 2020 - Drive to Costco

Since we left Sequim, Washington about 7 weeks ago, we have really missed having a Costco nearby. We decided to drive to the closest one in Tumwater, Washington about 85 miles away. We are also in phase three with the virus in Washington, we are finally able to eat out in restaurants again. We visited the Red Lobster there and had a feast. It is so nice to eat in restaurants again. They did have some very strict rules, we had to wear our mask except while eating, they had tables separated too, it was only filled about 1/3 capacity. We had...

Nov 15, 2013 - Day 17 - South through Washington & Oregon

We left Bothell in cloudy drizzly weather and headed south. We decided to not go over to the coast as they are predicting strong winds and rain there and snow in the mountains (up to 20 inches). We stopped in Tumwater to fuel up and make lunch. Pilot truck stops make the job easy. We headed south towards Oregon and stopped at Van Mall RV Park for the night. This is just a parking lot in the retail area of the city of Vancouver, Washington. I called Dish to get our account set up for the winter and actually got an efficient rep that got it...

Dec 13, 2010 - Tumwater, Washington

First days are difficult. As first days goes, ours was okay. It was just the border the gave us a problem. The sign on the highway just before the border said "Peace Arch X-ing 80 min. Pacific X-ing 40 min." Of course we chose the 40-minute option, EVEN THOUGH the last time I was through here the listed time vastly underestimated the actual wait. Anyway, we were expecting a wait. What we weren't expecting was the traffic chaos. Two lanes of traffic. Four kiosks open. One lane goes to the first two kiosks, the other lane goes to the third...

Oct 12, 2008 - Summer 2008

Hello from Tumwater WA. We have had a busy summer, but that's no excuse for not keeping this journal updated. We are preparing to leave Washington tomorrow, heading south for the winter. We arrived in Tumwater WA in April 2008, in time for our Granddaughter's birthday (she's 6!) We spent some time with both our boys and their families, went to an Alpenlite Rally in Oregon, then headed to Lake Curlew State Park near Republic WA. We spent 2 months there doing camp host duties, and thoroughly enjoying the great weather, fishing, and...

Mar 28, 2008 - Brrrrrrrrrr Rain and Snow

It started raining during the night and we awoke to steady rain. We left our RV Park near Florence about 8:30 a.m. and drove north along the Oregon coast as far as Lincoln City. The rain was steady, turning to snow by Lincoln City. Once we turned east and started climbing the snow started accumulating on the ground and a good layer of slush built up. We drove slowly and never had any real problems. North of Salem we stopped at McDonald's for lunch then said our good-byes to Katie & Ken. They are continuing on east while we are now heading...
