Jun 10, 2009 - Sequim, WA - Diamond Pointe RV Resort

Today we drove "hammer down" for northern Washington. We had quite a bit of traffic through Portland, OR, but after that it was pretty smooth sailing to Tumwater, WA, where we picked up US 101 North. The next 90+ miles were very beautiful! US 101 runs along the western side of the Hood Canal with some spectacular views. We pulled into the Diamond Point RV Park in Sequim, WA, at about 7:00 p.m. this evening. This was a long day. We decided to spend 3 nights in Sequim. By the way... The Sun will set between 9:10 p.m. and 9:12 p.m. while we...

Nov 9, 2008 - From Fall City To Sequim, Wa

Sunday, November 9, 2008 – The trip from Tall Chief Resort, to Diamond Point Resort - It continued to rain throughout the night, with showers this morning. I had my coffee and a bite to eat and then put the rig in order to leave, put the dish down, jacks up, slides in, etc. At 10:50, I drove to the dump station and emptied the holding tanks and then we headed out for the next resort. Traffic was light, and I was glad I decided to travel on Sunday. The rain showers continued, off and on, for the entire trip, but with the light traffic, it...

Nov 2, 2008 - Fall City, WA, Tall Chief Resort

Sunday, November 2, 2008 – Tall Chief Resort, Fall City, WA - It has been raining off and on all morning, with it being light when I got up at ?, because I never set the clocks last night. I either got up at 7:30, 8:30, or 9:30. My satellite clock says one thing, the cell phone said another, and my clocks said something else. I finally forced myself to go to the office and confirm my reservation, and they told me that it was only 9:30 when I thought it was 10:30. I am still not sure what the correct time is, but don’t really care as I have...

Oct 21, 2008 - Olympic Peninsula/Rain Forest

Gilgal Oasis RV Park, Sequim, WA (on the Olympic Peninsula). With mountains, ocean beaches and rain forests, the Olympic Peninsula has an incredibly diverse topography. I had no idea there were rain forests anywhere in the U.S., but it turns out there are three and they’re all located in Olympic National Park. With a temperate climate and over 100 inches of rain a year, this part of the peninsula provides the perfect environment for a rain forest. However, Sequim (pronounced S’kwim), which is only about two hours from the Hoh rain forest,...

Aug 23, 2008 - Deer,Mountains,and Wine

We checked out of our hotel early to head back to Seattle to catch the 9:30 ferry to Bainbridge and begin our drive to Sequim. The sky was cloudy to begin the day, but by the time we reached the Olympic peninsula the sun was shining and it turned out to be a beautiful day. We arrived at our cottage by noon but had to wait to check in so we went into town to look around and have lunch. We have a very nice cottage over looking the bay and mountains. The cruise boats heading for Alaska go by in front of us. Also there are harbor seals right in...

Jul 23, 2008 - Hanging out in Sequim Washington

Relaxing and Erranding in Sequim Washington We’ve been camped in an RV park in Sequim Wa. for a couple of days doing mostly errands. We all got haircuts, washed clothes, bought a backup hard drive as one of our computers bit the dust, and have done various other shopping. We’ve also done some research on what we do next as we have run out of states. Do we just meander around in the western states some more, check out Canada and it’s Rockies, or head on up to Alaska? With the price of fuel what it is and the fact that the exchange rate with...

Jul 20, 2008 - Sequim, WA - The Lavender Festival

Sixty-seven miles brought us to Sequim, (pronounced ‘Skwim’) our home for the next 6 nights at Gilgal RV Park. These less-than-100-mile drives are nice when the terrain lends itself to slow going and sightseeing (for the passenger). Our ride north on U.S. Highway 101 was both diverse and slow-going; it wound around ‘S’ curves, over narrow bridges, through tree-formed tunnels, and, of course, always a little road construction. We passed through some blink-your-eyes and you miss them towns, as well as stretches of road along the edge of...

Jul 15, 2008 - Sequim WA

Sequim is another of those areas in the rain-shadow of the Olympic Mountains, so it is bright and sunny here -- in fact it is called the "Banana Belt". Sequim has less rain than LA or Salt Lake City. And, at least 300 days per year have some sun. And like Anacortes, the temperatures are mild. Sequim is a tourist's haven. Sequim is located on the northern shore of the Olympic Peninsula on the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Who was Juan de Fuca, you ask? He was a Greek navigator who sailed for Spain under a Spanish name; his original name was...

Jul 1, 2008 - Port Orchard to Sequim, WA

We are soon on the Olympic Peninsula - just not quite as directly as we had expected. The drive was very interesting with many views of the water & lots of Lupine all along the roadsides. We were held up for ~half an hour by road construction at the Hama Hama River. The River is very pretty & emptied into a bay to our right. We both got out & stretched our legs a little - it was actually a nice little break. We drove thru a lot of Indian Reservation & everyone has fireworks for sale! I wonder what they do with all the unsold ones on July...

Jul 1, 2008 - Seattle to Port Orchard, WA

Well, we somehow missed the turn we wanted to make to get to the Olympic Peninsula, but at Port Orchard was able to take Hwy 3/106 W to intersect w/Hwy 101 N on the Peninsula. We went S further than we had intended, which then meant that we had to travel quite a bit futher N to get to our destination of Sequim. Should have been able to see Mt. Rainier several times in the last hr or so, but with traffic & heavy fog, I am not at all sure that we did. If so, it didn't register - bummer!!! Please see next entry . . .

May 29, 2008 - Ferry ride to Port Townsend, Sequim

The shortest route from Anacortes to the Olympic Peninsula is on the ferry from Whidbey Island to Port Townsend, so Wednesday we took the bus on a boat ride. I must say it was a very strange sensation to look out our windshield at water while experiencing the rocking motion from three to four foot swells. And Petey just thought we’d given up boating! We landed in Port Townsend, a charming Victorian town with its well preserved 19th century buildings, then drove 30 miles west to Sequim, pronounced “Squim.” This part of the peninsula is in...
