Sep 8, 2013 - Moving East

On this day we drove from Bellevue, in the Seattle area to Ritzville, Washington in Central Washington State. The trip was a very scenic one. On either side of us, in the distance, were mesas and many rocky formations. It reminded me very much of some of the areas of California that we saw many years ago. There was very little vegetation and it looked quite barren. We continued on East that day and we came across fields and fields of newly cut hay. Much of it had been put into rows and was lying there drying and waiting to be picked up and...

Aug 25, 2011 - Side glances

Today's drive was a long one, 1,100kms, and while it was fairly quiet compared to the past several days, there were a few things of note. The first is that the mighty Testarossa turned over 80,000kms right around the time I hit Lincoln City, Oregon. I texted a few of you hardcore Ferrari guys and unsurprisingly received considerable positive feedback. But Brent, your response of "Happy 80th" took the cake. Aren't you clever... Anyways, it's hard to believe that Dave took me to pick the car up with 28,000kms on it just a few short years ago....

Aug 14, 2011 - Highway to the Danger Zone

What a great day for a drive. The weather is perfect, the car is running perfectly and the day is going to be great. I drive along the Columbia River gorge to Portland, and the vistas are stunning. Windsurfers and kite surfers are everywhere along the river. Looks like a lot of work. I stopped in McMinnville to visit the Evergreen Aviation Museum. It's my second visit, but it still amazes me. The Spruce Goose is comically huge and the SR-71 Blackbird looks like it was designed and built 20 years from now, not in the 1960s. What a machine....

Aug 13, 2011 - As dead as Disco

I wake up an hour before the alarm clock. Some last minute packing changes, go over the trip plan a dozen more times, triple check the doors, windows, etc. As I load up the car, it still amazes me how much luggage the Testarossa can handle (with matching Ferrari bags, of course!). One oversize bag with casual clothes, a regular bag with the dress clothes and accessories, 2 suit bags, and a Ferrari gym bag loaded with detailing gear (wax, detailer, tire spray, leather cleaner, microfiber towels, the works), along with my leather Ferrari...

Oct 4, 2010 - Leavenworth, a Mennonite Auction & White Pass Scenic Byway

Sept. 27- Oct. 3, 2010 The main part of this trip was enjoying Leavenworth, Washington. Nestled in the northern Cascades, this was a sawmill and lumber town early in its history. It was on a Great Northern rail line, too. When the lumber industry disappeared, the town hit hard times. In the early 1960s Leavenworth revived itself when it became a Bavarian Village. Buildings were remodeled and voila, Bavaria Pacific NW! The place became a tourist attraction! It’s 175 miles from Lacey to Leavenworth via I-5, SR-18, I-90, before going over...

Sep 11, 2008 - Ritzville, WA

The drive today was a wee bit boring. Lots and lots of flat farming country. We put in a long 8 hr day driving 286 miles. We really need to make up time and put some miles behind us. It is not our idea of full-timing but we really want to see Glacier National Park and the 'Going to the Sun' road before the road closes for repairs. We don't anticipate being back this way for a while. The park tonight is La Quinta Inn & RV Park for $30 for water & electric. Way overpriced for a dirty small wanna be park on the freeway. We probably should...
