The last time we visited this area, we had planned to drive to the top of Mount Walker. When we stopped by the visitors center we were told it was closed because of snow. We were happy to see it was open today. We drove to the top and walked a small trail to the scenic view. It was a bit cloudy but still beautiful. Mount Walker is located in the Quilcene community. Jul 16, 2012 - Quilcene Fish Hatchery

After our drive to Mount Walker, we noticed the Quilcene Fish Hatchery sign on the drive back from the mountain. We decided to stop and check it out. We ended up taking a complete tour of the facility. We met with Mr. Wong, he was an awesome tour guide. He explained in detail the history of the hatchery and showed us all the steps from eggs to fish. He even showed us where the huge fish return to spawn. Sammy got to feed the tiny fish in the fishpond. It was very educational for all of us. Mr. Wong is even going to send special posters...

Aug 29, 2011 - Quilcene, Washington

Tom and I can make many excuses as to why there is no new entries in our journal. We are TOO busy to write and edit pictures. Our trip to the Canadian Rockies was everything and more than we had hoped, Tom rode in a SNOW CAT to the Columbia Icefields. I got to see Butchart Gardens, Victoria. Life is great. We leave Quilcene, WA in the AM and start our ride down the Pacific Coast, have reservations in the Redwood's National Park later this week. Happy, safe Labor Day weekend to all. 8/19/11 Bower's Quilcene WA. We have traveled 3,578 miles and consider this our turning point though we will go a little further west to the Pacific Coast highway when we start home.
