Nov 24, 2019 - Summary remarks from our group

What follows are the summary remarks we made about our trip. Each person is identified with their remarks. Thanks to all for making inputs. LINDA: Thank you again for organizing the trip. The good and bad of the beginning and the end of the trip, was that we didn't have to switch planes, but the plane ride was somewhat uncomfortable as it was too warm, and not much leg room, and not a lot of places to walk back and forth. I appreciated the security used at the airports, but did not enjoy the free for all when we were departing Frankfurt,...

Sep 5, 2019 - Good to be home

This is the first of what will probably be several wrap-up entries. The trip is over, but like most things, it is not complete until the paperwork is done. In this case, it means adding photos and things I've forgotten. It also means, hopefully, that Linda, Marsha, and Marilyn will add their own viewpoints, corrections to what I've written, and general comments so it reflects the trip from all of us. For now, I'm waiting for Marsha, Marilyn, and Linda to send me their photos so I can include them for the journal. Since we are all tired...

Aug 10, 2019 - Love it when a plan comes together!

After months of planning, visioning, and waiting, our trip to Germany is almost here! So many of the places we'll be visiting are not dependent on good weather, but that would be a plus. Also something we cannot control. After the heat wave that hit Europe last month, I've been watching the weather in Germany to see what we might get. It looks like it should be a seasonal good period--warm, some rain, but generally nice. It comes into play on our first full day in Germany. I just finished making a reservation for us to do a day trip on the...

Aug 6, 2019 - One week to go!

Just a week to go before we begin our trip to Germany, and we all are excited for it to begin. Plus, trying to get all the details done so nothing important is forgotten. I've added a couple of maps to this travel blog, so if you choose, you can select from three that we are using. The main map is for Germany, but in the meantime, our postings are happening in either WA or UT, and I wanted a map to show that. When we get to Germany, the sequential postings will show up on that map. Numbers posted will match the entries we make. In July,...

Jul 31, 2019 - Getting ready to launch

Less than two weeks to go!! (BTW--if the map shows Frankfurt, I could not figure out how to turn that off. If there is no map entry, then "never mind." Each of us has been working on details--some big and some little. We are making progress, and all of us are excited about this coming trip. How cool it will be to be back in Germany and to show Marsha and Marilyn why we love being there. We had a fairly major hiccup, but got it worked out. It turns our the flight that M&M were to be on from SLC to SEA would not have gotten them in in time to...

Jul 16, 2019 - Map of proposed itinerary

Linda suggested Marsha and Marilyn might be better able to visualize our trip if I made a map of what I've proposed we drive. It may take me a couple of tries to figure out how to put pins in the maps, but here goes. OK, so there are no pins. I did manage to add the major names to the data base, so you can see the relative position of them in Germany and France. I did not try to fit everything onto the map, and as it is, so many of the names cover each other. To make it easier perhaps than the previous entry I made, here is the...

Aug 4, 2018 - Orcas Island Sojourne

On Friday, June 29 we made our move from Dow Creek to Evergreen Coho SKP Park in Chimacum, WA. We have stayed here every time we have been on the peninsula. This time the choice of parks had to do with safety more than anything. We will be leaving on Monday for a few days on Orcas Island as guests of Rick’s cousins, Bronwen and Scott. It’s OK to leave our rig at this park which is rarely the case at any other park. So, for the next couple of days we will be preparing for our trip. This includes laundry! Yuck! I hate laundry but of course...

Aug 30, 2017 - Last day on Orcas Island

The house closed on August 29. So with everything in storage we are heading out on a 10 week adventure in our 24 ft trailer, also known as our tiny home, Just perfect For Michael and Tucker and I. Karen and George graciously let us park our trailer in their front yard on Orcas for our first night. Day one was a day of much needed rest, well and a few last minute errands on Orcas, well maybe more than a few. At the top of the list for Michael was one last burger at the Lower Tavern, which was as good as ever.

May 17, 2008 - Whale Watching, WA

Ten hours later we were in the car and driving north to Anacortes, the jumping off point for the Washington ferry that would take us to Orcas Island for a whale watching trip. The whale watching trip was schedule to leave Orcas Island at 1:25, exactly the time our ferry would be arriving. The owner of the charter said they would wait for us to come off the ferry before beginning the trip. What we had not counted on was that the Washington ferry was running extremely late! Although we boarded the ferry on time it did not leave the dock for...

May 2, 2008 - Orcas Island, Washington

I left Vancouver on Thursday, May 1st at 8:30 dead on schedule! I got to the border and there’s over an hour wait and then, silly me, I tell immigration officer that I am traveling through the USA. So off my bike, go inside, get into line for fifteen minutes and then the third degree for another fifteen minutes. It’s very stupid really as only one kilometer to the east one can walk across! What pissed me off the most is that the immigration officer told me I had a Kawasaki motorcycle – the USA has information on Canadian vehicles. Isn’t...

Oct 1, 2007 - Orcas Island, Washington State

Well, it's time to say "adios" to Canada, at least for a little while. We have thoroughly enjoyed our journey across this great land of ours. Canada is a celebration of diversity. It disappoints us to have passed by so many places and their people and geography that we surely would have enjoyed. I wonder how many trips like this we would need to do to cover it all? We've promised ourselves and we promise you that we'll be back for more in Spring-Summer '08. So today, we get on the International Ferry that sails from Sidney on Vancouver...
