May 19, 2017 - In search of flowers

I took the Fit to the Honda dealer in nearby Burlington, WA to have the battery and charging system checked out again. After about an hour wait, they told me the battery was bad and needed to be replaced. A different story than Bagottt's in Palouse, but I'm hoping that replacing it cures the problem. We'll see. We made reservations to stay in the area in hopes of seeing some of the famous tulip and daffodil fields that bloom in the Skagit Valley in the spring. Even though the blooms were later than normal this year, the Tulip Festival web...

Aug 20, 2016 - Silver Creek, Washington. Paradise RV Park

Paradise Campground We drove down Interstate 5 south passing through Seattle, Tacoma, and Olympia, the capital city of Washington. We could see the capitol dome from the highway. We arrived at Paradise RV Park in Silver City, Washington. This is the hilliest park we have ever seen, but the lots are level. It is a resort-type park that is a destination by itself, but is not close enough to a large area to have television available. Usually that is not a big problem, but we had hoped to watch some of the Olympics. There is a local grocery...

Alaska Trip 2016

Aug 16, 2016 - Mount Vernon, Washington

Mount Vernon, Washington. We went to the Thousand Trails Park to wait for the lifters to come in. We needed a very level lot in order to let our slides out, which gives us added living space and prevents Val’s claustrophobic tendency. The first lot we tried, the big slide refused to go out, so we tried another one and finally were settled. This park has an excellent breakfast buffet on Saturdays and Sundays that is reasonably priced, so we enjoyed that both mornings after having our own coffee in the motor home. On Sunday Joe went on his...

Alaska Trip 2016

Apr 17, 2014 - Seattle and vicinity

4-15 thru 4-17-14 Seattle and vicinity On Tuesday (4-15) we moved from the KOA in Burlington back to the Tulalip casino. It’s closer to Everett and the price is right. It started raining pretty steady On Tuesday, then Wednsday, thenThursday. We hear it does that around here sometimes. We mostly visited family inside the various area malls or a Joe and Erica’s house in Shoreline. Turns out that Joe is a pretty good cook. On Thursday, Julie and I took a trip to downtown Seattle. I needed to take my camera in for cleaning so while in the...

Apr 14, 2014 - Skagit Valley Tulip Festival

4-14-14 Skagit Valley Tulip Festival Today we moved from the Tulalip Casino near Marysville to the Burlington, Washington KOA just up I-5. After four days of boon docking, the Winnebago needs to water up, charge up, and, eh, go to the bathroom. Burlington is a ways away from Everett but we have never been there, and rumor has it there was a big tulip festival going on nearby. The KOA is pretty nice, meaning there is good WiFi and the added bonus of having a place we might store the RV for the summer. We met Kim, Joe, and Erica at “Tulip...

Sep 12, 2013 - Back in the Lower 48

OK, Since I last wrote we have arrived back to the Lower 48. We got to Mount Vernon Washington yesterday afternoon. We left Prince George Tuesday after work and drive 143 miles and stopped along the highway for the night. There is just a small amount of fall color starting in the low vegetation and aspen trees (poplar in the Midwest) The next day we drive 333 miles and stopped at Gold Pan Provincial Park only about 150 miles north of the US border. This park was right on the Fraser River. It was nice and warm in the 80s due to the sunny...

Jun 4, 2013 - Leaving Mt. Vernon

We're moving from Mt. Vernon to Elma, Washington today. This will put us a little farther South and in a better position to see Mt. Rainier and the Olympic penninsula. It was a pretty easy drive. We got to the park in Elma and got set up. The park is a bit run down in the back with a lot of permanent residents, but the front, where we are has gardens and lots of flowers and trees. It's beautiful and the people are so nice. The managers are really nice and they bake cookies which they hand out to the people staying here. Just really nice,...

Jun 3, 2013 - Deception Pass & the San Juan Islands

Yesterday we drove over the bridges that span across Deception Pass. We found it to be so beautiful and so amazing that we decided to take a speed boat ride so we could see it all from a different perspective. We got to the marina and had to wait for about a half hour for our boat...no problem, we got there early. We got a few pictures at the marina and then went out for an hour trip on the boat. The naturalist on board was very good. He gave us a lot of information about the islands and the vegetation on the islands. It was really...

Jun 2, 2013 - Deception Pass

This morning we thought we'd go back up to the Cascades, but we got a little later start than we had planned and we thought it might be too long a day. So we looked at the map and found something else to do. We headed toward a town called Bayview and took a ride out onto Fidalgo Island. We went across Deception Pass, which is a beautiful bridge built in 1933 connecting Fidalgo Island and Whidbey Island. The pass is absolutely gorgeous. We stopped and took a lot of pictures...got a latte in Whidbey and took some more pictures. We made it a...

Jun 1, 2013 - Whale Watching

Today we have reservations to go whale watching from Anacortes. The boat leaves the docks at 11am and we need to be there by 10am, so we've got the address in the GPS and we're ready to go. We got to the docks with plenty of time to take some pictures and talk to some of the people we will be taking today's trip with. The trip started out cold, overcast and a little rainy and it took about two hours to get out to where we were going...we didn't see much on the way out, but the San Juan Islands are really beautiful. There is one island...

May 31, 2013 - First day touring Washington

Our original plans for today were to go on a whale watch, but the weather wasn't expected to be really nice until the afternoon. So, we decided to postpone whale watching to tomorrow and we drove up to the Cascades for the day. We got to North Cascades National Park sometime around 10 am and drove along taking some pictures. The mountains were in the clouds, but the Skagit River is beautiful and it was incredible to see how much moss there is in the forest. Since Washington gets so much rain, the forest is never dry and the moss grows on...

May 30, 2013 - Arriving in Mt. Vernon

We left Issaquah, Washington this morning headed to Mt. Vernon. It won't be a long day today. We arrived at the Mt. Vernon RV Park at about 11 am and took our time to set up. We originally planned to stay here for only three days, but we've checked online to see what there is to do here and we found quite a bit in the vacinity. The park is beautiful and the people are really nice, so it looks like we'll stay put for six days. We have reservations for a whale watching trip for tomorrow. We're pretty excited about it because they said they...
