Aug 11, 2012 - to Moses Lake WA; 16/207

120811-Sat-64971-Today we ended at 65354, started at 64971 miles, for total miles today of 383. We drove all the way to Moses Lake WA. Tomorrow we will get to Mt. Rainier National Park. We tend to think of large farms being about 1-200 acres, but out here they seem to be 1-2000 acres. Eastern WA is not our cup of tea. It is flat with large farms on both sides of the road, but we can see the mountains which we will be in tomorrow. We went thru large passes in the mountains of MT & ID then on to flat eastern WA. Our campground is just a good...

Jul 26, 2012 - Moses Lake, Washington

7/26 – 7/28 Next stop was in 114 miles (US2, SR28, SR281, I-90) at a middle school field across the street from the Five Suns Bluegrass Festival at Moses Lake. This festival was truly unique, the camping was free and the entertainment was also free. The town puts the festival on and uses hotel taxes and sponsors to pay the bills. The bands were excellent. The Gibson Brothers were the headliner and we consider them one of the best bluegrass bands in the business. Other good bands included: Kevin Pace and the Early Edition, Molly and...

Jul 14, 2012 - Montana to Washington

Saturday, July 14 When we woke in the morning, it was not raining, although things were wet. I checked the temp--mid 50s. Not too bad. Our sleeping bag was plenty warm for us. After a breakfast of milk, muffins, and pudding cups, we packed up our (slightly damp) tent and were on our way by our usual 8 am. We continued along MT 1, and found several more NFS campgrounds in the mountains. The latter part of the road was more devoted to farms. At Drummond, we got back on I-90, and stopped at the first rest area. A local HS group had free...

2012 Alaska Roadtrip

Jun 7, 2012 - On the Road, Again!

Last night was a horrible reminder of how fast our lives can change and how God can ride on your shoulder protecting you this one more time. Our friend, Roger Anderson was working on Vashon Island where they were shoring up an embankment by the side of a 3 million dollar house on the waterfront. He drove a dump transfer truck that was full of gravel. As he was slowly going down (backwards), the front tire hit some dirt and the drive line broke, his brakes became inoperable and the truck flipped on its passenger side and slid downhill. Roger...

Yippee Tyo's!

Sep 15, 2011 - Washington

Hi all, Today was uneventful. I didn't get lost and I didn't stop to see the sights. The pictures were taken along the road. One is sunrise behind a range of mtns. The other is the road going from Mo to Idaho. Washington is fairly flat now. Perhaps tomorrow will be more exciting. I am in Moses WA, halfway between Spokane and Seattle. Tomorrow I will have coffee with my niece in Dupont WA. If all goes well I should be in Eugene OR tomorrow night. Construction is everywhere and according to the map, tomorrow will be worse. I'm getting...

Aug 19, 2011 - lazy afternoon

Busy morning....ironing done and I finished scaning old pics (596total) so Dee can take them back to Moms house for Pam to pick them up. Then we packed some stuff away making more room for Dee & Jim to stay with us tomorrow night before we leave Sunday for MT. Boy-oh-boy have we been invaded by boaters and other water crafters! I tried to talk Harold into moving because we are using their space. But we really enjoy the evening views here.

Aug 18, 2011 - more pinochle & rummy

Barb had an hair appointment at 10am so that gave us time to look for garage sales. HA HA! But after our egg-mcmuffin breakfasts, I had a lady, setting next to us, cracking-up and telling me "I made her day". Harold said "lets get over there before they leave" and my comment was "does that mean we can't go shopping". Guess she thought that was the perfect come back,(maybe all women are born to shop) anyway it gave us all of us laugh. And we did do a little sale-shopping at their local bi-mart. We had decided to stay over until 3 or 4 before...

Aug 12, 2011 - Warm in Moses Lake

Lazy day in our little home, but all kinds of activity outside. Boats going into the lake and boats coming out. Sometimes awave runner plays out there where we can watch. We did make a 70 mile trip to have lunch with our AZ neighbors Gwen & Jay. They drove up to Vantage to meet us. After I got a few helpful hints from Gwen (about this site) and a good sandwitch lunch, we drove back towards Ellenburg on the old highway to visit a new visitor center. PSE has built a Wind & Solar Renewable Energy Center giving close up views of wind turbines...

Jun 24, 2011 - Sunny Moses Lake, Washington, USA

We looked forward to the Eastern side of Washington state for one thing-the Sunshine! The sun shines at least 300 days a year over here and probably more than that here in Moses Lake as there is only sage brush for vegetation with an occasional tree. What we forgot about from our trip over this area last year is that we have reached the part of the United States where the wind blows---I mean BLOWS! The West side of Oregon and Washington have the same weather cycle: rain with a few hours of sunshine....over here: Sunshine with a few hours...

Jun 5, 2011 - Family at Uncle Wally's

We had several objectives. We had heard rumors that our granddaughter Joelle's one wish upon moving from Tennessee to Washington state was to see the Pacific Ocean; we wanted to spend some fun time with Brian, Heather, Micah, Joelle & Isabel; & we wanted to give them a taste of our life on the road. I came up with the idea that we could accomplish all of the objectives if we hauled Brian etal with us on a trip to the western shore. Hence, we left Colville bound for a few nights at Ocean City State Park, on Washington's Pacific coast. A must...

We're Wingin' It

May 30, 2011 - West of Moses Lake

We did not travel yesterday, Sunday, except to drive to Helena for worship. The weather was quite miserable with heavy rain and cold temperatures. Today, we awoke to a chilly, damp morning. The mountains were shrouded in heavy cloud cover. We drove with a mix of rain and limited bursts of sunshine. We were excited to stop in Missoula, MT for breakfast at Cracker Barrel. This is our third visit to this location -- 2008, 2010, and today. We continued across the central section of the panhandle of Idaho through Coeur d'Alene before entering...

Sep 17, 2010 - Moses Lake

We traveled to Moses Lake from our two week stay at Coeur d'Alene. We got a spot about 15 miles outside of town on a nice golf course. There were quite a few fulltimers in this park, probably there for the golf. The name of the place is Sage Hills RV Park. The weather was warm and dry. We did have a few more flies than usual with a large dairy farm just down the road a short distance. Nancy's ex-husband, Paul, lives in Moses Lake. He was most gracious and treated us both to a round of golf and a great lunch at his club. We played with him...
