Jul 13, 2011 - Twelve Days in WA Visiting with Friends

We checked in to the Thunderbird RV Park in Monroe (which is an Encore (Thousand Trails) park that is a RPI affiliate). We have stayed here before and the RPI section is across the road from the main section with no sewer connection but next to the river. We can use the dump station in the main park or have the honey pot empty us for a fee. Rich and Gerd invited us for dinner and we were able to visit and catch up a little. Saturday and Sunday we spent the mornings doing things around the Coach and the afternoon and evenings at the Beans....

Jul 1, 2011 - Coburg, Florence Sand Dunes and North to Monroe WA.

Tuesday morning we met with Chad to go over our warranty items and he planned to work on them over the next 2 days. We then packed up Toad with our granddaughter (Chey) and the dogs and headed for Florence. Cori, Doug and the girls were on a week’s vacation in Florence and we were going to get together with them for 2 days. We first went to the Best Western to check-in. It was a little pricey with the $40 for the 2 dogs but it had an indoor pool and hot tub to enjoy with Chey. We went to their rental house and after a little catch-up, we...

Jun 21, 2011 - long days drive

We left our trailer at 8AM and was gone till 8PM. First we went south to Federal Way for a retired-bus-drivers breakfast (held 3rd Tues. monthly) Nice big turn out so I visited with many work friends. And since Harold drove for 4 years he knew most of them. Dee & Jim had drove up from Chahelis too. I think all of us suprised the Village Inn with the big turn-out. After doing some shopping and checking with Preston about our mail, we went to down to visit Mom and do a couple tubs of laundry. EEKS! it took about 85.00 to fill our truck at...

Aug 14, 2010 - Reconnecting

Thunderbird RV Reserve Saturday, August 14, 6:30 pm PDT Monroe, WA I’ve spent the last two and a half weeks here in the Monroe area, northeast of Seattle, staying at Thunderbird RV Reserve. Thunderbird is another Thousand Trails park (where I “camp” with hookups for free). It has towering Hemlock, cedar and spruce trees throughout the park which, once again, prevent me from getting satellite TV, but I have an excellent cell phone signal for my Verizon PC card. I’ll be here for 3 more days before moving to Chehalis RV Reserve 12 miles east...

Aug 7, 2010 - Evergreen Raceway with Northwest SSR group

8/7/10 Today we are going on an outing with the Northwest SSR group to the Evergreen Race Track in Monroe, WA. It was very nice of them to invite us to this event. The group will get to do a lap around the track with the pace car (also an SSR) to begin the races tonight. Sue, the organizer of the event has arranged us in color families like the rainbow to do our lap. It should be very impressive. Hopefully I will be able to get a couple of pictures. The Evergreen Raceway SSR event was a lot of fun. Very wet but fun. We met a lot of great...

Jun 14, 2010 - More Wonderful Visits with Long-time Friends

We’re now at the Toulte River RV Resort in Castle Rock WA for the second time. This is a park near the Mt Helen’s Visitor Center and freeway close, which is nice when you’re tired of driving!! We have enjoyed this park each time, even the train that rolls by close enough to vibrate the trailer as it passes. We are on the way to spend time with Ed and Cheyenne for her 6th grade Graduation, something we look forward to sharing with them. Chey called us on her new cell phone on Sunday to see where we were. what a treat! We enjoyed a great...

Sep 28, 2009 - Monroe

We traveled with Norm and Kathi to Monroe, WA for a beautiful week on the banks of the Skykomish River. We had sunny days and some rain, after all it was WA. John’s door bell battery went dead so to tie him over Kathi made him some door knockers. We caught up with our friends Terry and Rache for a great Alaskan Salmon (John’s catch) dinner. Norm had been doing most of the cooking so we have had many tasty moose dishes. Steelhead trout have been jumping in the river and the resident woodpecker has been fun to watch. Sultan, a small town near...

North To Alaska 2009

Aug 26, 2009 - Mt. Rainier from the North on Highway 410

Today was our trip to Mt. Rainier. We took the scenic route to the north and east side of the mountain, and then moved on to the south side and the Paradise and Visitor Center area. Lots of driving, but well worth it. A second post will follow with pictures of the Paradise and Visitor Center area. We left at about 8:30 am and returned to the rig at about 9:30 pm after well in excess of 300 miles of driving. One of the great things about traveling like we are is that every now and then I am really surprised. Mt. Rainier hadn't been real high...

Aug 25, 2009 - Big Four Ice Caves

This is one of my all time favorite hikes and I wanted to share it with Len. The day started out drizzly, but we packed up a lunch and headed out on the Cascades Loop Highway out of Granite Falls for the Ice Caves. We checked out the three camping areas, Turlo, Verlot and Gold Basin. This is another camping area that I enjoyed camping with family at. Only Turlo had two spots long enough to accommodate the Dutch Star. We stopped at the Verlot Ranger Station before heading up to Big Four. All was good, until we realized we didn't have enough...

Aug 24, 2009 - Whidbey Island and Deception Pass

The marine air in the area just wasn't allowing us to visit the North Cascades Hwy. This was a high priority on Len's list of things to do in the Pacific Northwest. So we opted for a trip north west of Snohomish to Whidbey Island and Deception Pass. We took the Mukilteo Ferry over to the south end of Whidbey Island. It is the 5th longest Island in the continental U.S. It is 62 miles long. The island is very long and narrow. 1 1/2 miles at its narrowest point and 12 miles at its widest. The ferry ride cost $10.55 for the Ranger and two...
